Just out of interest, say I'm attacking a bomber and a flap or aileron separates and falls away.
Does that just mean the general flap unit has been hit by X number of rounds or does it represent an actual direct hit on a flap/aileron hinge point, causing it to fail?

Thanks

There are collision boxes for the aileron itself (visual damage) and also the systems, including the control lines to and from the stick as well as control drives and hinges/joints.

So if you hit X_whatever you'll see visual damage, if you hit XX_whatever, you damage that systems collision box. So you can hit the aileron and if you only hit that then just the visual damage along with the drag or whatever FM changes happen happen. If you hit the control line, you lose that control, so on along with the visual damage that that collision box is in.

Wow, that's an amazing level of detail. I can't tell you how much I love this sim.
Thanks for the explanation.
