View Full Version : How does your squadron operate?

I’m curious about how sim squadrons operate. Specifically, does your squadron concentrate on 1-2 planes, or does the squadron fly everything and anything, as a squadron? If you fly everything, is this the way the squadron was originally conceived?

Thanks

The Wrecking Crew ( TWC )

Fly Brit only as a Squadron, tho individuals can fly German if not in the same AO.
TWC elements consist of both fighter (Spit1a) and bombers (Hurri fb and Blen)
Flights identify by colours. White (sqdn lead) red, orange, yellow and blue. (Up to 6 flights in any one AO) Each flight generally consisting of 3 aircraft, each flight with its own flight leader, answerable to white flight.

White flight provides target, formation, individual flight altitudes and mission role.
TWC white flight has whisper Comms to flight leads. Flight leads Comms to relevant flights. Flights can operate independent under flight lead in combat area but must continue to act in support of white lead stated mission and remain in the primary AO until all Squadron elements withdraw or are incapable of doing so. ( supporting damaged TWC extract or fuel concerns)
All aircraft support one mission in same AO.

Each flight consists of a briefing involving encounter to target, actions over target and actions on egress from target including relevant areas to rally.

Maximum firepower = Maximum casualties.

TWC kicks a55 and has fun doing it.

We respect ourselves and others around us. Longevity of service being our goal. While discipline is primary, this equates to and equal amount of fun. We are not everyone’s cup of tea. More like a fruppucino latte. You either love us or don’t. We’re good with that :)

Fliegergeschwader (FG) 28 „Wolkenstürmer“

We are a German speaking squad (more or less, we even tolerate Swebians and Bavarians), decidedly without any military ranks or hierarchy.
Basically we are a group of aviation-, history- and sim-enthusiasts, who like to have fun flying together. Most of us fly exclusively CloD, others also use BoX or Warthunder.
There are three regular days every week, attendance is not compulsory (since we manage to get four to eight pilots in the air three times a week our approach does not seem totally off).
Usually we prefer to fly on the ‘red’ side, but we don’t mind if anyone of us chooses to fly ‘blue’ if there are few people on the server (and then Maru always shoots me down …). Some of us prefer fighters, some bombers and it mainly depends on the situation which planes we choose.
Recently we several times helped to roll the maps with co-ordinated and escorted bomber strikes, but if the mood is right we may also fool around with Tigermoths against 109s :D
Friendly banter and interesting discussions are as important as fighting together.

An excerpt (translated, shortened and paraphrased) from our squadron rules:
1. Wars are not a Game
… we want to emphasize that we understand the difference between a war and a game.

2. We play fair and as a Team
There is no room for flying Rambos: intentional kill stealing and shoulder shooting are taboo!
Covering team mates is more important than kills. If an opponent gives up the fight we usually let him go. Cheaters stink!

3. Manners matter
All members of FG28 are held to use civil language in forums, chat or teamspeak. Insults, accusations and abusive language are not tolerated (except jokes about squad gaffer DerDa). Arguments should be settled privately.

4.
Against Nazis (and other anti-constitutional attitudes)
We stand decidedly against the National Socialist ideology and the glorification of the atrocities committed during the Third Reich. In a computer game there is no "historical accuracy", therefore we do not tolerate swastikas or other anti-constitutional symbols on aircraft skins.

Good question.

(and on behalf of the Rag Tags I would like to start by offering my appologies for not concentrating enough to read the full question... however...)

To the first point:

I'm not sure how we manage to opperate at all to be honest.

And to the second:

Not as a rule no.

Us Rag Tags are equal opportunity employers. We don't discriminate (clearly seen by the young gents post above) and have even welcomed minority groups (there is an Australian amongst us, notably me) in the past. However a board of enquiry was commissioned around that last appointment with a recommendation not to make that error again..

We are an unofficial 'squad' of mates within ATAG. So unofficial the even the black web's Blackipedia page makes no reference to our existence.

As for the actual squads I encourage any player not associated with one, but keen to be involved in a squad to check them out, see which one fits your personal preference, and you theirs, then go for it

How would anyone feel about one squadron membership in each flight sim, rather than one for all? I can see someone wanting to fly with, for example, an F/A-18 in a DCS squadron, but their current CloD Spitfire squadron has no interest. Why couldn’t you be a member of both?

The ATAG squad encourages its members to explore other flight sims and video games (ie Post Scriptum). No problem if a member joins up with or creates a different squad for that sim/game. Just keep us updated and let the rest of us know if it’s worth getting! :D All ATAG asks of its members is to stay exclusively ATAG within the Cliffs of Dover sim itself.

Other squads may have completely different outlooks and policies on this.

Very hard to answer the question. DangerDogz have no C.O. , you dont have to qualify to do anything. We fly to enjoy ourselves in a friendly atmosphere. Some of us are very good at dogfighting, mud moving, and level bombing and some of us arnt as good as we would like to be. We all have a favorite ride but all of us are willing to fly what is needed. The squad has been going since BG founded us in 2007 and we try to keep things going in the way he wanted, no saluting, giving orders etc

The EAF (European Air Force) is pretty well structured with rank according to experience and promoting the EAF , we also have Training officers who will teach pilots basic techniques, from landing patterns to acrobatics and formation flying making use of tacturns, a lot of us have moved on to BoS since we crave real scenarios like the SoW, some including my self have also went down the DCS route
Since it’s been a few years since SoW we are currently trying to set up a campaign scenario but it’s early stages yet
