http://www.file-upload.net/download-7197655/Desert-MOD-v0.7-Alpha.rar.html

This is a first little test playing around with desert textures used in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tugifv2YIw8

1. Copy and paste all files and folders to your root IL2 COD Folder
2. Create a "Launcher.exe" shortcut
2. right click on shortcut and add -mod=desert (kegetys.dll method)

Note: I was playing around with sand dune textures but iam not very happy with these , you have to change SR_EN_Field00 test to SR_EN_Field00 in parts/bob/textures/Terrain/Fields

Mods included

-desert textures (dont use them over England)
-Better Clouds
-No dust during takeoff and landing
-Sweet FX

Desert Skins:

Just to clarify, this is not a Team Fusion MOD.

We need to create a forum place for user mods.

Which prompts a question I don't know if you can or are willing to answer or not Colander - Do you know if it's possible to create new maps? If not is this likely? As you can imagine, that and new aircraft slots would be a game changer.

cheers ~S~

It's not possible right at the moment. TF is working on understanding the map coding/setups though, so we hope that this will be possible in the future.

Damn, the channel map is getting so boring... A reskin isnt quite the same... Especially since the map we have is so recognisable and suited only for one use... The vast differences in Green lands and desert from Tunisia and into Tripolitania and Cyrenaica of Libia and scorched earth of Egypt would make a huge difference.

Patience Farbs, we're in it for the long haul. I wouldn't see a problem in starting research though on the assumption that the boffins at TF will crack it. This way historical support information could be provided immediately to them, assuming this is the direction intended. It's not just the map but a host of objects, especially army hardware & planeset, all those lovely details about the Tomahawks and Kittyhawks, later Hurricanes/Hurribombers, F2's and 4's, SpitVb's, Beaufighters, Ju52's, trop filters, medium and light tanks, various arty etc etc - finally a use for the awful dust we have at airfields now ;). A decent database would need to be organised - it's a ton of stuff actually, this is not arriving soon by any stretch of the imagination!

I would love to see a Malta map, if it were ever a possibility to create maps it would be a good test piece as its small. Also the aircraft that flew over Malta are similar to the ones we have in clod at the moment.

Yes, you are correct on all counts.

Not much action on Malta though... You'd have to include a little bit of Italy too...

Farber is correct. Malta would be best once escort and Illustrious class carriers with Marletts and Spitfire Vb's with droptanks are available. Otherwise you have 3 Gladiators vs the Italian air force.

You need more positive thoughts mate. Is this not the forums of TF? Are they not already working to this aim? Is not a 1st public edition of a mod on the Horizon?! Pull yourself together man!

Feb-15-2013, 05:53
Not quite true, Osprey.. Hurricanes also operated from Malta and the Mk.I is already in the sim. Not sure if the Mk. I operated from Malta but Mk. IIs certainly did, though to be 100% accurate they would probably have to be tropical variants. But that of course would also apply to other aircraft.
Dammn shame we can't raid the Maddox/1C computers and retrieve all the stuff they had prepared for CloD and sequels- Oleg stated he was very keen on doing the Med.

Very, very true .... however :ind: as great a job as I KNOW TF will do, I know that they are fettered by WHAT they have to work with. Meaning? Since this is NOT an OPEN source project, they can only do what they can do. But Yes, you are absolutly right, THINK posative ..... :goofy

Just checked and twelve Hurricane Mk. Is were flown off HMS "Argus" to Malta on Aug. 2nd 1940, joining the Sea Gladiators and a few Hurricanes which had arrived from the UK previously.

Salute

When Italy declared war on June 10th of 1940, there were 7 Gladiators in crates on the island of Malta. Only 3 were active at any time, the others were rotated or added as necessary. This is where the myth of only "Faith, Hope and Charity" being there came from. Against them the Italians had CR-42's and some Macchi 200's, plus various bombers including the BR20M and Italian manned Ju-87b's

First Hurri I's arrived on June 13th of 1940 but were flown on to Egypt. 6 more arrived on June 22nd, and these stayed. Further Hurricanes arrived during the course of the summer. These would be running on 87 octane gas and likely were two pitch types. Further Gladiators also arrived, mostly flown off British carriers.

In January of 1941, the German Fliegerkorps X arrived on Sicily. This initially comprised Heinkel 111's, Ju-88's, Ju-87b's, and some Me 110's. There were no 109's initially. These forces were used beginning on Jan 10th of '41 in the "Illustrious" blitz when the Carrier Illustrious was trapped at Malta in damaged condition. By this time, the British fighters were using 100 octane and were the constant speed types. Hurricane I's were arriving continually via being flown off Carriers from Gibraltar. Fulmars were used from the Illustrious's complement to defend the island after it arrived.

On February 11th '41, the first 109's arrived, these were 109E4's, one Staffel of JG26.

On April 3rd of 1941, the first Hurricane IIA's arrived, flown off the Carrier Ark Royal.

I am aware of what arrived, but initially it was just those Gladiators vs Italy. Buzz does a nice summary there. But yes, I suppose if one were to take the map from a later date then we could have Hurricanes, but you still need CR-42's and Macchi's, and even by then it was a small scale affair. You also do need bases from at least Sicily and Italy for it to be really worthwhile anyway and that radically changes the map size (assuming a 1 to 1 scale is used)

We need to create a forum place for user mods.

Thread moved to "Technical Corner" for now to keep separate from the Team Fusion mods. You're right Colander, we should have a separate section for non-TF mods that will work with the current retail version of Clod, but not with the upcoming TF version.

Yes, but most of the map is sea so it would be the easiest map to make. The biggest problem with that scenario are the ships. To build 3D models of this quality is time consuming.

Is this Desert Map mod to be included in the big patch to come? I ask ony because it like several other patches I'd like to use ( in particular new mnu screens- the defauly ones are sooo bad..) require using the
KEGETY mod.Elsewhere I have been told to hold off in using this method & that most of what i'd like to drop in will be included in a bit...still true?:)

Hi

Can this mod be installed without kegeteys or is that essential?

2. Create a "Launcher.exe" shortcut
2. right click on shortcut and add -mod=desert (kegetys.dll method)

Ok....So thought I'd give this a try...I am stuck on these 2 directions....

I have made copies of my IL-2 Cliffs of Dover folders in Documents and in Steam and named them 'il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - Desert'....Then I installed the Download into the steam folder....When asked to replace certain files..I have clicked yes...But don't know how to do the directions above?

Help folks...Thanks

if its like the tf mod setup you need to

- copy just the main program folder into a new folder and call it 'malta' or something
- put all the desert files and folders into the root folder
- create a shortcut to the new location of the launcher exe file and right click on it to go into properties and add the switch text above

It wouldnt work for me until I deleted all the sweetfx stuff. Now it is fine.

I don't believe this answers heinkill's question, but here is some fantastic work in Il-2:1946 which might be of interest to anyone contemplating Malta.
