View Full Version : 9+ AI bombers in a raid?

Hi guys, I saw 9 JU-88s (or maybe D17s) come over i a mission yesterday.
First time I've seen an AI raid of this size on ATAG for a while.

This raid was also being escorted by around 4 109s. The bombers made it all the way inland of Hawkinge before the RAF could actually get to it. Well escorted by the 109s.

It's nice to see larger raids on the maps again. The piddly raids of 5 bombers often get shot up even before they leave the French coast.

I know you chaps are busy with TDF mod work, but it would be grand too see a continuation of this increase in raid size.

Cheers.

If you have been following the thread about 'Operation Sunlight' you will see that the latest version includes large formations with AI escorts I did not think it was released yet but maybe that is what you saw.

Personally, given a choice between tweaks to FMs and having exciting new missions I would go for the latter. I know the FMs need fixing but the thing most likely to make me give up CLOD is boredom with the gameplay, not the flight models. TF say they can't do much with the missions until the patch is done but, again personally and I stress IMO, I would have been happier if it were the other way round. The missions could have been improved in a matter of weeks then the FMs and latest indistinguishable version of 109 looked at later. Just my own selfish desire :-)

I don't think ATAG server1 has the Operation Sunlight mission in-rotation.

I hope your mission gets re-inserted into rotation once the TF patch is released, Salmo. There was lots going on, and you were pushing the envelope in so many areas. Have you had an opportunity to test it with the experimental Release Candidates?

Another mission I hope to see again is Hans Gruber's Dunkirk mission, now that the TF patch will have historically-accurate 100 octane 2-speed Spits and Hurries available, plus ALL FM's made accurate.

There's a new mission called Operation Waterfall almost ready to coincide with the TF patch release. It's an early channel convoy attack/defend battle.

The battle features:

1. Blue mission: Ship convoy in Thames Estuary, attack convoy. Red mission: defend convoy.
2. Dynamic Ai plane numbers. The fewer players in the battle, the more frequently Ai flights will spawn & vice-versa. Ai flights at all altitudes, especially 20,000ft+.
3. Continiously moving vehicles. Vehicles move back & forth on their waypoints continually until destroyed.
4. Upgradable airbases. All airbases begin the battle with a basic (early BOB) planeset. Planes are 'upgraded' as the battle progresses, so for example, a base with a Bf109E-1 may upgrade to having a Bf109E-3, Spitfire Mk1's may upgrade to Spitfire Mk1a's & so on.
5. Dynamic airbase AA defences. Airbase commanders at frequently attacked airfields will regularly call-in additional AA defences. So frequently attacked airfields tend to become more defended over time.
6. Custom in-game stats. Includes kill counts & airforce personel losses ie. KIA's MIA's, POW's etc.
7. Active radar. Allies have working chain high & chain low radars & ground observers. Axis have Freya radar. Radar contacts are called out & plotted as icons on the mini-map.
8. Destroyable airfields. Airfields can be 'bombed' out of action. Spawn locations are lost at destroyed airfield & destroyed airfields do not repair themselves.

Nice job Salmo!

so many reasons to be excited right now! The missus is away all weekend too, I hope the patch doesn't delay much more ... ;)
