Battaglia di El Mechilli
<Description>
January 29, 1941 clear after days of rain
The English 4th Armored Brigade, received the order to bypass Mechili and cut the enemy escape route to the west and north-west while the 7th Armored Brigade occupied the road between Mechili and Slonta, in order to trap the "Babini" Group which, however, he had withdrawn into the night. Babini's men retreated south of Slonta, to Bir Melez and Antelat, covering a distance of 220 km under sandstorms and air attacks, pursued by the 4th Brigade until it had to stop on January 28 for lack of fuel, to the fatigue of men and because the camel tracks became muddy due to the rain.
On January 26, Graziani ordered Tellera to continue the defense of Derna and to exploit the "Babini" Group to stop the advance westward from Mechili ... and on January 29 the battle began.
Task of the Regia Aeronautica:
= Defending the counter-offer on the ground of the Babini wagon grouping.
= Allow the evacuation of the wounded from the rear of the huge retreating column.
= Maintain air superiority and if possible prevent British operations in the air and on the ground
= Avoid destruction of the column command!
= Destroy the column command field.
= Destroy the enemy advanced command!
