That was great fun for me after more than a year of no/minimal flying.
I spent most of the time around the north/south road to the west of Al'ukht alddayiea, not sure if this is where the main action was.
A bit rusted, but some nice dogfights in the good old G.50 against Tomahawks and Hurris.
Thanks to the organizers

Like to add my thanks to Snapper and mission builders.
Blew away a few cobwebs and used as opportunity to try out the Beau for the first time (quite a few times!).
Notes to self:
don’t forget the Beau has bombs to use
don’t try belly landings with said bombs still armed on aircraft
don’t forget bail out procedure
Thanks from me as well!
Finally a mission where the Beau could play out its strengths!
I had fun ... once somebody took me by the hand and showed me where the action was :-)
There is just so much desert in this desert!
Sadly I had several CTDs so I gave up earlier than intended.

Glad everyone had fun!
In the early afternoon we had a vicious storm front come through southwestern Ontario with winds gusting to 131 kmh :stunned:. It was wild! Snapped 4 fenceposts of my backyard wooden fence, causing it to lean at a crazy angle, lawn furniture thrown everywhere. Spent a couple of hours with my electric drill and a bunch of wood screws jerryrigging repairs ‘til I can get professionals in - I expect the home insurance companies & tradesmen will be deluged next week. The important thing is no one locally got hurt AFAIK - there have been reports of fatalities coming in from other parts of the province though.
I just barely made it to the event start, but I confess I just cruised around in a Beau, then a Hurrie lld, basically to just be on hand if the server itself had any problems. :D
Would love to hear some After Action Reports and see any pics/videos!

Glad to know you are alright Snapper!
A video might be coming Soon™️
:recon:
Thanks for hosting the event, was a lot of fun!
There'll be a video from me as well in due time.
On a different note:
Could server admins please check the dotrange settings?
To me it felt like fighter sized dots would disappear around 6-7km, which is half of what it used to be before the contact spotting changes in patch 5.027.
Artist swears that nothing has changed for 1080p, which is what I'm flying with (https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35341&p=380900&viewfull=1#post380900).
So the only other explanation to me would be that since 5.026 servers have changed their dotrange settings to much more conservative values.
Glad to report that storm through Ontario was north of me, and the second one later to the south. Nowt but grey clouds and rain here.
Also glad I was free this weekend to fly.
Had a chat afterwards and related an ongoing 'issue' with these Tobruk scenarios where aircraft are, at least temporarily, not available. EG I flew the Hurricane and after landing was unable to respawn another in that same location. In one instance I could only respawn using the air start, on another I couldn't initially spawn at all, eventually cycling back to my initial spawn point successfully. I could never acquire a Martlet despite several attempts through the mission at any spawn point. I'm not the only one this happens to and recall this being an issue for Snargle and Jeepy in prior events.
Like others I also had my 1st CTD in as long as I recall. And they only happen during these events.
Greatly appreciated all the same.

It was unusual to have so many CTDs, but recently I also had one on TWC Campaign (ending a very long career  )

I also noticed a poor spotting/visibility, about 5-6 km. A little few, in my opinion.
It seems to have gone back over 10 years, when CloD suffered a lot this thing...
Thanks for hosting the event.
Gladly more of it!

Thanks for the feedback, gents.
Will check into these issues:
1) Contact spotting distances (1080p, 2K, and ultimately, 4K)
2) CTD’s - Server side or player side? Either way, WTF?
3) Aircraft Not Available- Some servers have this as a feature. However, AFAIK our ATAG events should have unlimited spawns of designated aircraft at each spawn point, be it airfield or airspawn.
Stay tuned……

To be clear aircraft were available on the lists for each spawn point, but selecting them got nowhere.

Yep, that’s how I understood it.
AFAIK there were no limits placed on aircraft assigned to each spawn point for either side. Other servers run more complex missions where aircraft need to be conserved/returned safely as part of the overall strategy & tactics, but not this one I don’t believe. Will check.

In my case I spawned in to my nightmare airfield (CRI-RA) just to be bombed and killed while starting my engine. The following several spawn attempts got me back into the same burning G.50 with a death at every attempt. So I air spawned elsewhere. Only then could I respawn into a fresh G.50 at CRI-RA. Very difficult to even taxi there because full of debris, and very limited forward visibility in the G.50 on the ground.
Note to TFS developers: while taxiing, with the canopy or side doors open, the pilot should be able to lean further out of the cockpit left or right to enable better forward visibility… although I saw pictures of planes with a "taxiing assistant" sitting on the wing to guide the pilot on the ground.
I also experienced 2-3 CTDs which I initially blamed on my slow connection until I read that this was also the case with others…

You should have heard the mirth and enjoyment on red coms as this happened:
"Oh, I see Noofy is spawning in!"
"Wait, can anybody see him"
"Oh, there he is ..."
:-)

Almost forgotten: Twice in total I also had a CTD to report
