Hi all,

just want to say hello and share some pics with the community from a great event i had, last year.
So i was working in the hangar (Mainz Finthen) on my little plane (RANS S-6ES aka Coyote II).
When a friend arrived and asked if someone wants to fly Ju52 (D-AQUI), as a passanger.
I throwed away my tools and said, yes me. :)

So, here are some pics from my 1h journey.
[ EDFZ (Mainz/Finthen Airfield)-> Loreley Rock -> Feldberg/Taunus (it's a Mountain) -> Frankfurt/Main (Skyscrapers) -> touching EDDF (FRA) -> Wiesbaden -> back to EDFZ ].
On our way home we got some company (Pitts, pic 17) in formation.

Low and slow, that was just fun.

Sorry for (bad) quality, i had only my mobile with me.

Hope you like'em

:salute:

Those photos were fantastic! It's amazing the quality that little mobile phones are capable of now. What an experience that must've been for you. Any idea how many Ju52's are airworthy these days? It can't be too many, I'm sure.

Hi Snapper,

that day there where two of them in Mainz.
The one i've flown with (D-AQUI (http://www.dlbs.de/de/Die-Flotte/Junkers-JU-52/index.php)), she has no more original engines. I think they are Pratt & Whitneys.
And the swiss registered (HB-HOY (http://www.rimowa-in-the-air.com/ju52_daten.html)) with BMW engines.

Sorry couldn't find infos in english, so please try Google translation for the links.

No more infos on airworthy "Tante JUs" (as it is called in germany, like a nickname) at the moment.

The 2 Ju52's which regularly appear at RAF Duxford are both owned by EADS (a defence company), this one looks so familiar but is it the same one?

Nice pics, thanks.

Hi Osprey,
you're welcome.

Just a quick roundup from "la grande dame (http://www.dlbs.de/de/Die-Flotte/Junkers-JU-52/index.php)".

She (D-AQUI/D-CDLH) was built in 1936 at Junkers factories in Dessau and was in service in Germany and Norway until 1955.
After some intermezzies in South Amerika (Ecuador) between 1957 and 1963, she was saved by a decent fellow american flight enthusiast from a bitter ending at Quito Airfield. After restauration she did displays at flight shows around the US.
In 1984 she was bought back by Lufthansa and is in service again since 1986.
Until her 3rd. maiden flight, 50 years later, she's doing sightseeing tours (10.000 passengers a year) and brings smiles on flight enthusiasts faces (like most/all of us).

Ps: Phew, that was tough (lost in translation)

Hmm, I think I've seen her flying over Stuttgart a few times. Although it might be another one?

Hi Snapper,

you're right, it is. I'm looking forward to springtime. :)

Some info about the airfield from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainz_Finthen_Airport).

Greetings mugen.

I used to see that plane, or another one just like it, flying on some sunny summer days near Frankfurt-Wiesbaden-Mainz when I was living there in 2004.

Thanks for the pics.

Hi DK_, np,
yes that could have been her.
She's doing sightseeing flights for her living (hehe), regularly from spring to autumn. She've been at Breitscheid (http://www.airshow-breitscheid.de/besucherbilder2012), last year as well. The crew (Pilot, CoPilot, Board Engineer and Steward/ess, mostly Lufthansa personnel), btw, doing these flights in their free time for free.
Flight enthusiasts! The recipts for the flights are used to keep the plane flying (maintenance, parts and fuel).

Edit: Just a teaser, from the airshow (http://www.airshow-breitscheid.de/bilder2012).

It's great to see these old planes still flying, they sure brighten your day when you happen to see them.
