Hello all,

I am new to CLOD though have years of experience in IL2 including understanding of the architecture and enhancing the visuals to perfection, including all the recent magic coming out of SAS for Il2.

Though with CLOD I am relatively new, I see similarities with IL2 in the architecture and configuration (other than now the config.ini is located in user folder rather than game root).

Anyway, I have been studying this forum as it appears the best place for CLOD info and expertise. I have implemented many of the changes found here including the new mod. I have full understanding of the configuration with the new mod where config changes now happen in the "...-MOD" folder found in <user>/Documents/1CSoftClub/ folder.

I have implemented Mastiff's recommendations for visual improvements for Nvidia settings (though unsure if these are taking...) as well as use of ATAG SweetFX configuration which is dropped in game root itself (I use JSGME to enable/disable). I also tried SMAA, and InjectSMAA...-Buchon," however best visuals seem to tie with the SweetFX feature. I also use GammaGapa to further enhance the visuals focusing on further contrast improvements to help spot dots and clarify the atmosphere.

Basically, all in all it looks pretty tight with solid FPS ranging from 60 down to 30 averages.

I am running a GTX 670, i7 950 with 12gb ram at 1920x1200 res.

The final hurdle I would like to "fix" is the shimmer at distance. Basically, if looking at aircraft nets or distant items, I see a shimmer that will fade with zoom, but at standard view its there. Additionally, when I set up an offline quick with incoming bandits, I can see the dots at distance well; however, as they close-in they begin to shimmer at mid-distance making them hard to see. Once into close distance they look fine though with some shimmer and a flashing effect which seems tied to the sun reflection off the aircraft frame.

Usually, these shimmers are addressed by AA settings and other tweaks using something like Nvidia Inspector, however findings seem to indicate that NI does not work in CLOD due to how AA can be invoked in CLOD. Some issue where only "post" processing can be done for AA using something like an outside utility such as SweetFX or FXAA on the GTX driver.

All in all, if this is as good as it gets at this time, that is fine, but was hoping there is something out there to improve, as the shimmer can get the eyes quite oddly functioning once back out in the "real world."

Downsampling which is form of brute force supersampling is your friend here:

See this thread for safe monitor timings:

On a 670 you should be able to get as high as 3840 x 2160 downsampled to 1080p

NB: CLOD needs to be in pseudo display mode

PS I'm new here too.

Glad you think so!

Above info was nvidia only but a method exists for AMD:

Now I just need to finish the profile for my G940 and I might try MP.

Thx for the info. Tried this effect though the FPS hit was fairly big. I set up a custom res at 2560x1600 (maintain native 16:10), and then enabled ingame with Psuedo display mode. Effect worked, with softening of the text (quite noticeable on the FPS readout) however my FPS took about a 50% hit. Dropped below 20 low on the deck with visual improvement, though still shimmer at distance.

Ah, if only as easy as enabling custom AA in IL2 1946.

Ah well, perhaps one day...?!

also going to NVIDIA CP Display, Adjust desktop size and position/

Scaling full screen
Perform scaling on: GPU

Check Override the scaling mode set by games and programs

This improved my LOd visuals big time..
