Hi all, as some of you might know Im fairly new to CLOD and Im pretty much a noob when it comes to online flying.I have already gotten my feet wet in the ATAG server a couple of times, and while I have been shot at without mercy I actually have managed to stay alive.Anyways I would love to hook up through TS with a more experienced fella(109 pilot would be much better) to share a few tips and get me through an actual online sortie from take off to landing(hopefully hehe).I feel somewhat confident about my flying and shooting, what I need to practice is navigation, because Im having trouble when trying to get into the action and I havent got to land on the same airfield I took off from. Im free on this next monday so practicing that day would be ideal.

Any help would be appreciated.:salute:

Hello Royraiden,

I'm afraid I can't really help you as I'm a starter myself. But other more experienced fellows surely can.

If you're looking for whole mission playthrough and commentaries (from takeoff to landing), Soren Dalsgaard's videos are probably among the best and most informative you can find on youtube.

Here is a pretty neat tutorial he did for the BF-109.

Another youtuber I find especially relevant is "Ape Of The Year".

Here is a very good tutorial about the 109 and "Energy Fighting".

About some basic flight manoeuvres and energy efficiency

If you want a good read about everything there is to know about modern fighter combat tactics, my recommendation is Robert Shaw's "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering". It's probably the bible of any fighter pilot as it lays down the basics of what to do in what situation, and why. Pretty good stuff, if you ask me. Here's a link.

Anyone wanting to get some pointers on the German planes only has to ask; hop on Teamspeak and we'll see what we can arrange.

In Pursuit is a great read and very helpful.

I don't have a whole lot of on line time either but I always try to tag along with the experianced guys when I'm on the server. Keller,Vranac, Kush Viper and the rest are always welcoming and they spot contacts like nobodies bizz. I sometimes wonder if they have a radar on thier desktops?

It's always preferable to fly with a wingman or 3 if possible.

Keller has been kind enough to get me through some of the basics for a few days and I have to say I have learned a lot. Before I had no way to know where I was or where I was going except for the channel and knowing which side was France and which was England. Now I can get my bearings based on land marks and I can actually identify some of the airfields. It was difficult at first, mostly because I hadnt my controls set up properly but Keller got me through that as well and yesterday I flew as his wingman for an hour and half or maybe 2 hours.I actually managed to get credited for half a kill of a human Blenheim.I just cant wait until I face the fighters even if they shoot the hell out of me it will be an awesome experience.

Keller thanks again for all your help these days.

Roy,

I don't know if you are familiar with the map tools but you once spawned in, you can right click on the map and set waypoints and get bearings using the protractor tool. The ruler tool will give you distance so that you can convert time to target. My Staffel Kapitan makes use use these tools in training excersizes so that we always know heading to targets and egress routes out. Having a heading, time to target and a little dead reconning to help along is a useful tool. After a while you learn the map and maybe can do most of it by sight but there are always parts of it that are little flown and knowing your egress heading home can be helpful when low on fuel or ammo.

Well Im a bit familiarized with the map now and dont get lost anymore and can even return to base( yeah I should be ashamed but before I couldnt do it)All thanks to our friend Keller. What I dont quite get are the heading and bearings, I had read about them before, I should probably review those concepts again.
