Could some kind person point me in the right direction on how to take charge of a gun, I've searched this site, thought I had the answer, but no luck yet, I know how to move between the pilot, bombardier, and gunners, but can't figure out how to take charge and fire guns. I read all about the 5ms and not being able to fire above that, etc.

Just the correct keys to map would help immensely, as I've tried remapping all sorts of different items without success.

Thanks for your help.

Hold Shift and arrow keys to move the gun and mouse left click to fire is the default I believe. :salute:

OK will try those out, thank you.

Just tried, eventually got some control with Control+O, then the Shift+Up, Shift+down etc worked in the Stuka, but I still couldn't get the gun to fire with the mouse (LMB or RMB), or with the normal pilot M/G key (joy trigger).

Tried again, this time with some success. Turned out the Control+O is for storing the gun, also had Shift+O for cruise storage.
Shift+Up, Shift+Down, Shift+Left, Shift+Right worked.
Also just Up, Down, Left, & Right worked too
Then LMB started firing !!!!!!!

Strange, will try the other bombers etc now.

Thanks for your help Zodiac.

Turret use are a complicated mater in CLoD - so simplify:

1st - Go to Options > Controls > Keys > Turrent and map "move" like this:

http://s24.postimg.org/vumhcwo9x/turrent1.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
pic host (http://postimage.org/)

*To move gun is used mouse - see bellow.

Thus you are using you "training" (WASD) in "COD" (http://www.callofduty.com/) :D to move the turret (some planes, like Me-110, Stuka dont have Turret movement , you control only the MG movement).

Yes, you have two thighs to move: the Turret and the MG.

To use the Turret, after change to some position, you need:

1 - Put then in "firing" position - for default they are in "cruise" position (in the above picture keys are remapped - look at you controls to see what are used).

2- "Lean to gunsight" - default key is Shift+F1 - to aim.

3- Toggle to "independent mode" - default key is F10 - that allow you move/aim the MG whit mouse.

image hosting above 5 mb (http://postimage.org/)

*To map a second command to exist function (in case "Fire Current Weapon") select the function, click in NEW an in the box hit a key/button.
In CloD you can map numerous command to do some function.

With default mouse config the MG movement is sluggish, so go to ...:\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD (if applicable)
open (with Notepad) the file Conf.ini and change mouse speed in [rts_mouse] section:

[rts_mouse]
SensitivityX=1.00
SensitivityY=1.00
SensitivityZ=1.00
Invert=0
SwapButtons = 0

Default value is 1.0, change - for X and Y - to 2.0 or up.

In game, to move MG up move mouse backward, not forward.

Notice that all turret have a specific time to recharge that varies from ~7s to 20s according the plane.

And the "Gold" Rule of the Thumb: If the plane are doing vertical movements above 5m/s the gun (in fact, is the gunner (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ug-gWBUuD8o/Tad95GkkK5I/AAAAAAAAAu0/EaztDzA7Eh4/s1600/roller+coaster+WillMcC+wiki.jpg)) freezes and dont shoot. :devilish:

EDIT - This gunner "G fear" was cured by TF 4.0 patch. A good idea that dont work well in practice.

BTW - This matter deserves a topic in CloD Wiki. :thumbsup:

Thanks for that guide Sokol1! :thumbsup:

The default CloD keymap has a conflict with LMB which prevents firing while moving the crosshairs, so map a alternative key to fire Turret guns, like SPACE:

Thanks for those answers, Philip.ed & Sokol1, had remapped to some spare axes on a joypad I have and that worked for some of it.

Ok sorry for the necro but I did a search and I have a related question. How do you give back the control of a gun to the AI? When you check stats ingame, it is going to say "Pilot,Top gunner" for example. Which means that if your planes crashes, it counts two deaths...

If your in a gunner position, hit alt f2 (default) and you will 'jump' to the pilot seat, AI now in control of the guns. If you hit alt f2 while IN the pilot seat, the flight is over for you, the AI now owns your aircraft, so be careful!

For unknown (Dr.Who'leg) reason, online the player always occupy the last two crew positions which entered...

So, moving from gunner to bombardier then for pilot cockpit, player will occupy pilot and bombardier position, returning gunners for AI - that eventually warn about bandit on the 6! :thumbsup:

Instead the command "cycle positions" (C) map - for example:

1- pilot
2- bombardier
3-7 gunner (top or front, then dorsal, chin, left/right (or reverse) side, depends on plane), so from any gunner position hit 2,1 to go back for pilot position.

But, "Houston, we have a problem": Bf 100 and Ju 87 dont have bombardier cockpit...:S in this case use Alt+F2, you are "leaving" the plane for AI, then go in briefing list and take control over again... It's CloD (http://i59.tinypic.com/20zqrza.jpg). :D
