Greetings All,

I have fallen in love again with flying again thanks to the fun I'm having on the ATAG server. I flew general aviation planes for a long time and had to give up real flying due to how ridiculously expensive the hobby has gotten over the past 5 years. Well now I can get my flying fix and not have to worry about insurance, medical certificates, and flight reviews :)).

Thanks ATAG!

Welcome Flyn to the ATAG Forum and this outstanding community that is Cliffs of Dover.

Sorry to hear you had to give up the real flying but finding CloD and enjoying it will fill the gap a little I hope.

This is a very good time to be joining in, as CloD and the community are on the up, thanks to the amazing and dedicated team at TFS. If it wasn't for them we would not what we have today.

You have already found the ATAG server so I look forward to meeting you in the virtual skies soon.

Flyn - I can identify with your reason for involvement with this SIM for I joined exactly for the same reason earlier this year. I grew up around aircraft, crewed in aircraft in the military for a few years, and owned and flew a mid sized utility STOL taildragger in the late '70s and early '80s.

Due to the same circumstance you faced and changes in my personal life I give up this passion and took up restoring and ridding classic European motorcycles up to 2016, when I sold my collection, save one, my 1951 500 cc "Airel VH Redhunter". Now as an "elder" in the ATAG age "etc" category I have resumed my flying passion.

I am sure there are a number of licensed pilots in this community who are here for the same reason.

Believe me this group will make you feel welcomed.

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve too...

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!

Yeh, in the same boat. I have 40% in two Luscombes and it's not all that cheap. The longer I'm in the GA business, the less confident I feel about reliability as well. I have several friends who have dead-sticked landings (one on a brand new factory turbine) and too many friends who didn't make it. Thankfully, none on my watch.

CLOD/ATAG is a great way to feed the bug and the folks are awesome. There's some gurus in there that have some incredible flying experiences and there's always history to learn. Better than touch-and-goes all day @ $120/hour right?

AND....you get to fly Spitfires! How good is that? Welcome to the ATAG Forum and Servers, Flyn_Bryan. We are delighted you found this great community.

It's encouraging for us, too, that you rate this sim so highly even though you have lots of real life flying experience. It just underlines again what a fantastic job Team Fusion Simulations have done with CLOD. My brother used to fly a 1930's Tiger Moth at the Cambridge Aero Club. (England) He used to pour all his spare money into it....absolutely loved it. He managed to buy a 1940's leather flying helmet, which was the 'real deal' and had it all refurbished so it worked a treat. He got withing a whisper of gaining his Private Flying License before the cost became impossible and he had to stop. Such a shame!

Trouble is: though I've tried really hard, I can't get him into CLoD...probably because he can't yet afford a computer capable of running the game. I'll keep working on him because I know he would love it. In the meantime, it's great to hear you are having so much fun. Keep practicing and I hope to meet you in our virtual skies soon. Salute!
