I just watched a video on youtube with the above title, from June 12, 2012. In it, an ME-109 blows off the top cowling section of a Spitfire, after which the top of the engine catches fire. I've never had this happen, and am wondering if this is one of those items that got deleted in a 1C patch.

Also, I'm wondering if the bombs have been assigned any damage modeling. Has anyone ever shot up a Stuka, for instance, and had one of its bombs explode from being hit be machine gun bullets?

On an HE-115, if the pontoons have bullets holes in them, will they take on water when the plane lands? Would a Walrus or Sunderland have the same problem?

The instructions for using bombers tell you to not arm the bombs until you start the attack so that they do not explode when a fighter attacks. I have never seen a bombers bomb load explode but that might be because I have never seen a bomber with 'armed' bombs being shot up.

:salute:

I've seen this happen in the last official patch and TF3, so it's still there. But I have to admit I only seen it once or twice, so it's an extremely rare kind of damage.

Couldn't an armor piercing shell set off an explosion on a bomb that wasn't t armed?

The bombs "armor" is quite thick (almost one inch on some) so it would take a quite powerful shell to penetrate it, and if it's not also an explosive round it won't detonate the bomb anyway

Regarding your initial question I just realized I had a track of this happening:

Please note the ROLLS ROYCE written on the engine -yet another amazing detail in this sim :D

there's a chapter in "Eight lives down" I believe it's called, where the bombs disposal guys try to explode an artillery shell Ied in Iraq by shooting it with a 30mm Rarden cannon, (very powerful weapon for the calibre), end result was the rounds kept ricocheting off the shell and sending it skittering across the road leaving a very hot and unstable shell to deal with!

Yes. That's what I was talking about. The realism really is fantastic, in some areas.
