Howdy folks - Just finished a Dunkirk mission. Should be up next. Not going to ruin it with an all out brief right now (no time!).

Just let me know how it goes and if you see any bugs.

Thanks,
Bliss

Cheers Bliss. Missed it last night, but will keep looking for it. How many missions are in rotation now? I probably should know this, but I don't.

I was on its first run very late last night, unfortunately there were only a half dozen of us online. RollingStoned was good enough to jump into a G50, then an E1 as he very capably ducked and dodged our Red pirhana dogfight tactics. :D

Granted we were a small number of players, but I'm still pleased to report that it ran fine with no technical glitches. Of course, I'm looking forward to playing it again with hopefully 60+ players to give this mission a solid wringing out. Seems to have a good planeset for both sides and challenging objectives as well.

I love this map. I'll fly a stock Mark I spit or a good ol DH Hurri anyday on this map. The blue fighter jocks won't be real happy with only the E1 available but a great time to really develop skill in manual prop pitch management. Plenty of good times to be had in a stuka over the ships. Get a good number of players on this and there should be plenty of chaotic furballs.
Thx Bliss.

A big  from me

Storm of War are running a Thursday mission which I suspect impacted the number.s

Nice to see a mission which isn't filled with the 109N, more than you realise those damage the online game. (I suspect someone will mention the IIa but ATAG fights are so low that the IIa isn't as good as the Ia there)

i cant wait for those huge dogfights with everyone half focused on their engine temp.. it will really take skill to be the victor on this new mission, it should be a blast.

Looking forward to trying the new mission. E1 won't get that many complaints as most Blue like it better than the E3 due to the fire rate (E3 is slow fire rate and the canon is useless due to ammo available). E1 seems to turn a bit better too.

Anyways, the SOW Thursday mission was cool yesterday once we got rolling. We (my staffel) flew out of the south part of the map escorting stuka's which is a challenge due to their speed. Bitt of a long slog up toward Brighton area where the ships were. Good practice for the upcoming campaign though. That starts Sunday 14th:thumbsup:

Are Bomber formations programed for this map. I was up for an hour, and did see a formation of Blenheims pass by but nothing German !!!

Point taken: I'm really not sure either: I do know the Blenheim's were active hitting some coastal targets i.e. barges/ ships

anyone ???????

I have played two 'Dunkirk' missions in the last week. One was the same as we have been flying for years - just a small area round Dunkirk and one field in Allied hands - and that had spit 1 (100oct) with adjustable pitch but no CSP and constant Axis AI bombers. That may have been on SoW. The other, newer one, has a much larger area in Allied hands and Spit 1a (100 oct) with CSP but I did not see axis AI bombers (plenty of human bomber pilots though). The comments above seem to suggest the new map only has two speed props, perhaps that is only true of you fly from France?

It was great fun though. A new map is always welcome as lack of variety is the major problem with CLOD. Can't wait until I can fly a BoF map with very early aircraft in the little used area south of Le Touquet.

I've tweaked the trigger a bit. Let me know if it still seems indestructible. In my tests (to make sure it works) I made 2 passes with an He111 at altitude at got it to trigger.

Are we referring to British or German bombers at Dunkirk? I was under the impression that Stukas were involved at Dunkirk? A quick google and the Ju87 wiki page says "During the Battle of Dunkirk, many Allied ships were lost to Ju 87 attacks. The French destroyer Adroit was sunk on 21 May 1940, followed by the paddle steamer Crested Eagle on 28 May. The British destroyer HMS Grenade was sunk on 29 May and several other vessels damaged by Stuka attack. By 29 May, the Allies had lost 31 vessels sunk and 11 damaged.[97]" The wiki page does go on to day that "Allied air power was ineffective and disorganised, and as a result, Stuka losses were mainly due to ground fire. Some 120 machines, one-third of the Stuka force, were destroyed or damaged by all causes.[99]" I haven't had time to check sources but I'm sure I had read about merchants being attacked by Stukas and sailors were unimpressed with a lack of RAF activity over the area - apparently the RAF were said to be concentrating on intercepting Stukas inland which is why they weren't being seen over the convoys.

Of course, Stukas are available to players on the map, I am just responding to the discussion regarding bombers at Dunkirk.

we were just in stukas, perhaps next time I will have to a He111 pilot to try it.

From ww2talk.com:

Coastal Command flew continous daylight patrols from 28 May, unhesitatingly exposing its Blenheims, Hudsons, Skuas and Rocs (borrowed from the Fleet Air Arm) to the German fighters, even when no British fighters were present, while No.2 Group's Blenheims hit German troops around Dunkirk in daylight and Bomber Command's heavies attacked road approaches and rear communications

Blenheim IV R3664 are shot down by FLAK over Dunkirk in 05/28/40.

Adolf Galand claim a Blenheim 15 km N. Gravelines 05/29/40 (possibly a aircraft of 21 Sqn that return and made a wheel-up landing), and another 30 km N.W. Gravelines.

25 May - 42 Blenheims bomb troops, vehicles and bridges near German front line. 4 aircraft lost.

26 May - 34 Blenheims bomb enemy positions behind German front line. No losses. Evacuation of British Army, now surrounded at Dunkirk, commences.

27 May - 2 Blenheims lost from a total of 48 attempting to bomb German positions around Dunkirk.

28 May - 48 Blenheims attack German positions near Dunkirk. 1 aircraft shot down.

29 May - 51 Blenheims continue raids on German troops. No losses.

30 May - Only 44 Blenheims out of 68 despatched bomb targets at Dunkirk due to poor weather.

31 May - 93 Blenheims raid German positions at Dunkirk in 2 Group's largest daylight operation.

1 Jun - 56 Blenheims to Dunkirk without loss.

2 Jun - 24 Blenheims attack German positions at Dunkirk. No losses.

3 Jun - 18 Blenheims bomb Dunkirk. No losses. Evacuation of Dunkirk completed.

So, leave the Blenheims "over" Dunkirk. :)

BTW - In 06/01/40 N of Dunkirk a Anson MK-V N9732 (http://juhansotahistoriasivut.weebly.com/deadly-avro-anson.html) dogfight Bf109's for 10 minutes, shoot down two and damage two.

Just completed my first 1 hour sortie on the map, landed about 2 mins before it was due to end. Love it. Very atmospheric.

I've flown this map a few times, mostly when there are low player numbers online. Most recently, I flew with 10 players online (5 each side). Flew for 1 hr & did not see a sausage :(

Can the author please consider implimenting a dynamic Ai spawning model. ie Frequent Ai spawning-in when player numbers are low, and reducing numbers of Ai as more players are online. (See http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4973&p=50885#post50885 )

The Blenheim spawnpoint at Ramsgate doesn't seem to work. I don't know whether this is intentional but it makes for some long & dangerous flights through from Littlestone, and through enemy territory, especially to some of the most easterly targets which need about three hits to blow.

Even I got bored last night, and hopped in a spitfire.

Hi gents,

i have a love-hate relationship to this map, i love it because it gives some variety in the maprotation, it fits into the timeline, it is a map with no E4/N and Spit MKII, but on the other hand i hate this map because the limitation to 1 single 109figther for blue. there was a post from Talisman ( ) about a map where some red planes where missing and he ask to correct it. So i would like to do the same, please ad the 109E-3 to the dunkirk map. it fits also in the timeline of dunkirk and it gives blue 109 flyers 2 109 fighters to choose. the red side has the hurricane and the spitfire with different variants.
