:salute:

We are in the middle of beta testing and so far so good
A lot to do and little time for making a proper Friday's update I'm afraid :die:

What I can offer is a pic showing that we (think) we managed to get rid of the "white puff" bug.

Yes, thanks for another Friday update!

Good to hear that the beta testing is going well so far - I am keeping the fingers crossed.

The screenshots are also very interesting:
- The iluminated area aroung the bomb explosion in the night mission looks amazing!
- Not sure if you modelled the flight model of the FW 200 correctly. :)
- Controllable tanks and especially flak will be a nice addition.

Good luck with the further beta testing!

FW200 hasn't been touched from the original.

Non-flyable aircraft are WAY down in the priority list.

And even more the case, FW200 was not really very present in BoB, it was a maritime reconnaissance aircraft, not used in the channel, but more in the Bay of Biscay, or North Sea/Atlantic. It was not a bomber, it was extremely fragile, being a converted passenger airliner.

For all those reasons, we will not likely see a flyable FW200. Twin engined Blue aircraft such as the Ju-88C-2 heavy fighter, Ju-88A-5, etc. are much more of a priority.

I keep looking at the ground shots, and mentally comparing them to DCS 'combined arms'. Simply 'gob-smacking'. Especially the one with overcast. If you chaps have fixed the weather menus in the FMB, we're going to be seeing some pretty good screenshots, methinks. :D

But I have a question. That's the second time I've seen the pic of the underside of the Heinkel in moonlight. Is that what it's showing? The moonlight, that is?

I have been meaning to ask this question for the last week but...

We seem to have switched from 'Please can someone think about a flyable Beaufighter' straight to 'I can't wait for the flyable Beaufighter to arrive'.
Have I missed an announcement or are people jumping the gun or are they just getting the fighter blenny confused with the beau?

To rephrase my question,, 'Does TF have a firm plan to develop a flyable beaufighter for the next release (not the one we are waiting for now obviously) or is it still on the 'We would love to but it's too much work' list? I know that brand new cockpits are a huge amount of work which is why I am pretty much resigned to not seeing a beau for the foreseeable future :-(

'Does TF have a firm plan to develop a flyable beaufighter for the next release (not the one we are waiting for now obviously) or is it still on the 'We would love to but it's too much work' list?

As you say, not for the upcoming release, but hopefully for the one after that we will see some new flyables. (there are new planes for the upcoming release, but they are new versions of existing flyables)

Here are the facts:

We can't create new aircraft and cockpits without the tools to move 3D objects in and out of the game easily. The game doesn't come with those tools, we need to build them ourselves.

And to get them to work within a code which we have to decrypt, and which requires much rewriting is a task much larger than we expected. We have two tracks going... 1) a completely new custom built tool is at least a year away, 2) an adaption of an existing piece of freeware as a temporary fix is much closer. Recently we have made very good progress on 2).

We are anticipating 3-4 months after these tools are in place, you will see a flood of new aircraft and objects... we have quite a few members or prospective members lined up and ready to start work on these new additions. Some are already working in 3D Max llooking at the preliminaries to building the models. But we don't want to load people down with work without being sure their efforts will actually get into the game as flyables.

Of the aircraft which are currently in the game, the following are priorities for adding cockpits: (not necessarily in that order)

Beaufighter
CR-42
Gladiator
Wellington

We also plan to modify the existing Ju-88 cockpit/exterior to add new versions, ie. JU-88C-2 and A-5. And the Hurricane cockpit/exterior can be modified relatively easily to allow creation of the IIA/IIB/IIC

Before all the above, there are some very simple additions which when we get the tools, could be done in month or two:

109E7
109E-7N
Spitfire IIB

The Spitfire V could also be added relatively easily, but we need the appropriate matching German aircraft before we do that.

Further in the distance is the 109F and early G, which is the easiest of the 'new' aircraft... since some of it can be based on the E model.

Completely new aircraft we are hoping to create are the Macchi 200/202 and P-40's... and yes, the 190A.

And beyond that... who knows?

Before we start building castles in the air, it is important to realize all these models take a lot of time to build, and require damage, engine, flight models, etc. etc.

But there is our current planning.

And most important: We all work for free... we all have lives outside... and we are all doing this for fun... if it ceases to be fun... you guess. :P

Encouraging to say the least.I know these are all further down the road plans but with the determination and success you guys showed with the first release I am confident that it can be achieved. We need our community to work together for that goal as well. But again with the upcoming patch Im confident more and more new pilots will show and the community will keep on growing, thats exactly what we need.

I don't remember what AA calibre I used for this shot  Probably the heavy 3.7 inch stuff :D

Am I right in spotting some very lovely overcast cloud cover?

Yes -this has been possible all along via the FMB but not used so much because of a bugged out interface and the heavy FPS load. I would lie if I said it's still not processor heavy...slightly better now though

But I have a question. That's the second time I've seen the pic of the underside of the Heinkel in moonlight. Is that what it's showing? The moonlight, that is?

Whoa, I had no idea that TF's ambitions were that big, regarding new planes in the future. Incredible!

Mattias, fantastic work! I have a small question. Do you think it would be possible to switch the tool tips off sometime in the future? The little white texts that appear when your cursor floats over an instrument? It would be lovely for us film makers to be able to switch them off.
