View Full Version : Input lag / delay when shooting

Hi, I have this problem when I press the gun button on my joystick it takes about half a second before it starts shooting.
It's near impossible for me to dogfight fighters with this. Bombers I can do okay.
I had this problem in original il2 cliffs of dover aswell.

Anyone know a work-around?

The axis movement is okay, it's just when I press a button in the game it seem to have this delay. like "click" and half a second later it reacts.

How is your stick in Windows?. Are the key presses being recognized instantly?

Thanks for the questions.

The axis is not the problem. I have no delay there.

The buttons responds excactly when I press them in windows (checked with control panel + joystick settings).

I don't use T.A.R.G.E.T for il2 cliffs of dover Fusion mod 4.0.

I use T.A.R.G.E.T for Falcon BMS (f-16 jet sim), but no lag / problems there.

It's not a big issue now, since I gotten used to it. Manage to shoot down 109's, but still would be nice to have no delay.

Hi, first sorry for my English.

You go to your game installation folder steamapps/comon/il2 cliff of dover/redist.
On this folder, you need to reinstall, Directx, and repair donetframeworrks,

Normally this solvent the problem

:D

I have done this aswell. I followed fusion install tutorial step by step.
Still no difference.
It's weird, because in all the other sims I have I do not have this problem. Not even in il2 sturmovik: battle of stalingrad early access.

Hi Piece of Cake. You may have solved your problem already. I had a similar issue with a MS Sidewinder stick. Then, I played with the loadout settings. On my machine, if I mix tracer and any other ammo type, I get a delay when firing. If you want to use tracers of any type, make sure that that gun only has the tracer type you select. Do not mix it with any other ammo. When I did this, my guns fired quickly and smoothly with a steady stream. Hope this works for you. Mixing AP and De Wilde is fine and does not cause a problem. Seems to only happen with a tracer mix.

yea well that's not the only bug, some have had to redo the guns load outs because of ghost-firing.

Uhh didn't quite understand what you ment?

Can you give an example of what works and what doesn't?

Did you mean that I can't have two different tracer types?

I think what he's saying is that there is a delay with ANY tracer ammo mixed with other AMMO. But I could be incorrect .... It sort of produces a delay switching this ammo .... So try a gun set up with no mix ....

To be more objective about this problem i would like to propose those who are having the problem to post a complete list of their ammo loadouts.

You can copy/paste from "C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD"

Inside there is a file named "user.ini" that can be opened with notepad.

Please do it like this:
post ammo types

Typical loadout for me, tracers every third round in two weapons. Will do some testing with just tracers in two weapons.

Hi Guys, I'm amazed that there are so many with this problem. What I meant, PieceofCake, was that any ball, incend or AP mixed with tracer in one gun causes delay. This has been the case since I started playing a year ago. Below you will see the mixes that cause stutter. Below the bad is my revised loadout which fires smoothly. Thank you all for your responses. Do you still have the problem, PieceofCake?

Interesting bug this one :stunned: I have not been able to replicate it myself yet, but I'm glad to hear there's a workaround (well maybe not for the guys without 8 guns -no fun having only tracers in one of the 109 MG's :D)

Just out of curiosity; does changing the video setting "Visual Effects" to "Medium" make any difference?

Cheers/m

What does those numbers in the end mean? Like 11 02 11 and 66 000 66 etc.?

I have like on mine: Red tracers on gun 1, AP in gun 2, 3, 4 and 5, and then red tracers on gun 6.

Still I got the one second delay.

Hmmm,
I have a WARTHOG HOTAS and use Target Script and no delay whatsoever whatever the combination of loadouts.

Sounds like a DX issue to me.

edit: Q fires all guns - rifle & cannon.
Give it a try and see if there is a difference in any pauses.

If you set a button on the keyboard and use that one to fire with, do you still have a one second delay?!

I don't normally use Tracers but I set up a few single missions with various mixed tracer loadouts in the Spit and there was no delay on my system. The original release of CloD suffered with both stick input and firing delays on my rig but along came official patches, I replaced the GFX card with a 2Gb 560Ti and the problem disappeared.

Hope you get it sorted!

i also get shooting lag. mine is about 1/3 of a second. gotten used to it now as had it since release so doesn't bother me. I dont use any tracers for RAF but have a mix of ball/AP/Dewilde in all guns and mix of ammo in 109 variants, happens in all planes, guns and turrets too.

I tried all sorts of settings and the lag amount don't change even if i go from lowest to highest settings.

my card is only a 1 gig 560 to video memory might be the problem for me but would have thought the lag would have changed with the settings if this was the case

very wierd.

Use a utility such as "EVGA Precision" to monitor your GPU clock speeds. Many video cards will down-clock themselves when not being stressed to reduce noise and power usage. If the drivers don't kick to the GPU up to full speed when in the game, lag will result. Some users reported the problem was caused by the ubisoft logo animation that plays when the game is first launched.

Somewhat OT, but my tracers never appear in the advertised color. they are ALWAYS white, no matter what color I choose.I can even eliminate tracer rounds from my loadout altogether, and the white tracers remain.

Maybe I am doing it wrong?

I make and save all changes in the OPTIONS-PLAYER PLANE menu.

Chris,

If you are doing it offline then the belts dont change. The belts are loaded with the mission, so if you want different ammo load out s you need to go into FMB and adjust each plane for that oarticular mission. there is probably an easier way of doing it but idk .

the only thing you could change in sp from load out screen is the convergence.

Try going online, if only to test, to see if your load outs work as intended.

Thanks Gents,
Trying that, I found that in FMB I can change the belts, then fly the missions as single missions offline, and enjoy my custom loadouts.
I am becoming very fond of alternating the Brownings with Mk VII ball, AP ,another ball and then topping it off with the De Wilde incendiaries.
No tracers required some getting used to but after learning how to calibrate the Barr & Stroud sight for individual aircraft targets as well as range, I am finally becoming rather a good shot in COD.
:)
Thanks for the replies!

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if I repeat something already said...

The delay is caused by how the game uses the 2 stage trigger of the Warthog (seen by the game as triggers 1 and 5). Make sure that the in-game control is assigned to only trigger 1 for guns and cannons together and that should be fine for RAF and LW types.

To do this pull the trigger very slightly so that only trigger 1 comes up in the window.

I have a Warthog and experienced the same lag until I made the above change. I don't know if any other joystick causes this problem so can only comment on the OP's setup.
