I finished the RAF Redux campaign yesterday on an upbeat. It was such a pleasurable experience that, like a good book, I hated to see it come to an end. Undaunted, I marched into the Luftwaffe perspective of the Redux campaign with equal expectations. Unfortunately, my aging system (quad core running at 2.3GHz with 4GB RAM), could not deliver performance on par with the RAF side of the campaign. The initial mission went well and I was able to complete it successfully whereas the second mission was a slide-show even after lowering graphic detail in hopes of making it playable. I flew most of the approach to target on autopilot, but when it came to time over target, the slide-show reared its ugly head to my detriment with predictable results. I'd hoped I might could have scaled-down the graphic requirements so as to finish the second mission with hopeful easier hardware demands for subsequent missions, but it was not to be. I am not faulting the mission editors in the least. They had fabulous ideas and immersion was top grade. However, I was not able to progress through the Luftwaffe side of the campaign in any way close to that of the RAF side. For that I am disappointed, but my rig is sliding off the end of that which is required and it is in unfortunate. Perhaps the mission design was a tad too ambitious for those of us with aging systems and a desire to get into CloD, I don't know. Still, it is what it is.

Addendum:
I've stuck with the Luftwaffe Redux and it's a solid, well-executed campaign. The object count is high which, though it stresses my ancient PC, enhances the immersion of German juggernaut experience. I have had to do some workarounds like letting a mission fly itself to the engagement area, then taking manual control as the object counts begin to decrease (i.e., attrition of aircraft of both sides) as the battle gets going. A couple of times while trying to escort Ju-88s, I had lockups likely due to my limited RAM, but found if I took manual control and avoided high traffic engagements until the numbers dwindled, I could get into the fight and have survivable frame rates. I just finished the mission supporting the German invasion landing at Folkstone. The mission smoothed-out and things went well, although I pranged my 109 on landing...another historically likely event. All it all, it's good and I'm sure could be max enjoyment if I had an updated gaming rig.
