View Full Version : Whats the secret to spotting the enemy amongst the flak?

Ok,
Title says it all. I spend so much time flying in circles over, under, around flak. I try to project where the aircraft might be based on the bursts but no luck whatsoever.

Is the flak that innacurate that the altitudes are nowhere near where the flak is or is it a vision of the sim thingy?

Is it better to use wide view to sport aircraft or other?

Very frustrating to say the least.

Just as an aside, it would be nice for the missions to be set up with bombers taking off from airfields and proceeding to targets on a regular basis because it's nice to catch them taking off or landing or climbing out. It means looking at different altitudes for the enemy instead of always climbing high and flying in a circular pattern until they get near the coast.

Any help much appreciated on the enemy in the flak thingy.

Cheers.

I could be mistaken but I flew over what I think was Wissant & Audembert airfields in France just near the coast and straffed what appeared to be bombers taxing for take off there today.

Hi Catseye,

Generally it's a royal pain in the arse to spot planes around the flak;)

But what I have noticed is that the thick clouds of black smoke (caused by Bofors AAA) are generally way behind the target. The white puffs caused by the smaller AAA guns are generally right near the enemy. So if I see black plumes, I know to look ahead of the flak tracking, whereas if I see white plumes I generally try to look right into the flak.

Either way, it's a pain

About the bombers, I agree. The problem is they use tons of resources when taking off. So spawning them in a relatively close airfield to do that hasn't worked so well thus far. Trumps had an idea of having them circle for a while at altitude to gain a few escorts before heading over, which I think could work for the time being.

If that is the case, then I stand corrected. I thought that the bombers were spawning mid channel high. I've made many flights over France and only saw live piloted BF109's so far.

I usually make a low pass if they are taxiing or on a takeoff roll - but do not shoot out of respect that it takes some time getting airborn and this is not a real server war at this time.

Hope one of the ATAG server guys can confirm.

The bombers spawn (air start) almost off the map, to try and minimize lag. But they all do come in for a landing. :o

Hi Catseye,

Trumps idea is a good one. I could only add that they start circling somewhat low as if having just taken off and a wide circle and gain altitude before heading out thus allowing escorts to join up and perhaps an opportune time for a chance Spit or Hurri kill if in the area. For fun, extra flak could be added in those areas to provide more cover for the bombers until leaving the coast.

Just a thought.

Cheers

Ah, means I have to hang around sampling the vinyards until they get back. Bad for the liver and bad for ones butt with the 109's around. I think I had better find an appropriate coordinate and play reconnaisance for a bit until I can figure out where they might land.

This sim gets more fun all the time. Except for trying to spot something - but perseverence should start to pay off by the time a couple of more finished patches are in place.

Cheers

Sorry for the mis-information Catseye. I was obviously mistaken. But hey, what ever was running engines and taxing, I shot at. And yes, it was in France. Atleast I got my contenants correct ..... LOL:coolio:

No prob Chief. It sounds like you were in a better vinyard that me over there. ;)
