Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy New Year, Io Saturnalia, С Новым Годом и Рождеством – whatever you’re celebrating, hope your new year brings you lots of joy and happy new experiences!
For us, 2014 is looking to be a momentous year. We’re working hard to make sure we release a solid new title next year, a title that will thrive in 2015, 2016, and beyond.
Most of our employees are based in Russia or in the former Soviet Union. The wonderful thing for employees, and a horrible thing for employers, is the fact that most of those countries are officially off from December 31st to January 10th. People in that part of the world love to celebrate the New Year, and they celebrate hard. Many businesses do not return to full working capacity for another week or two after the official holidays end, but we are of course different. Some of our employees are even planning to work from home over the holidays to ensure deadlines, but that’s purely their personal choice. I as a project manager obviously cannot ask anyone to do that unless it’s their own personal choice.
Having said that, we probably won’t have any significant work done on the project for the fateful 11-day period.
December was a difficult month for me personally with some unexpected events jumping out when least expected. One of our employees ended up in the hospital. Russian healthcare being what it is, waiting for the ambulance for two and a half ours almost led to a bigger tragedy. Not one but two of our married employees had their wives end up in the hospital.
Finally, another valuable team member slipped on the ice but thankfully his face broke the fall. He now looks like a B-movie monster, and has to continue modeling with one eye swollen shut. Finally, I know many of you are very concerned about the state of kickstarter rewards fulfillment system. The work has not been progressing nearly as fast as we needed. We’re still not there. Including paypal with kickstarter ended up adding a huge layer of complexity because we can no longer just use kickstarter’s features. Programming everything together, bringing the lists of kickstarter and paypal backers, and integrating it with DCS forums and other site features just turned out to be a nightmare. At this point, it almost seems like it would have been easier for me to manually do the reward surveys via email or something basic like that. At this point, looks like the roll-out is not going to happen until at least the end of January 2014. For this I sincerely apologize. I should have planned this out better. In hindsight, I should have stuck with kickstarter alone.
Anyway, I was really hoping to end 2013 with a bang: a couple of screenshots of the Bf.109 cockpit in-engine, flying around, and we still have a couple of days left in the year. If that does not happen, we’ll do a consolation update on the 31st.
For now, here’s the current state of the P-47 cockpit. Looking to be completed by late January.

We’re actually well ahead of schedule on cockpits with the project, which I guess is the best news I have to offer at the end of 2013.

OMG - Just look at that cockpit. Every single button, knob, switch, lever etc will be usable. I just can't wait for this.

Thanks for posting this, Cats!

Wow, Ilya sure had a bad month within the workforce. Hope all recover fully. Those P47 cockpits look very, very good. Looking forward to seeing the Spitfire IX 'pits sometime in the New Year!

I just wish he posted them in HD instead of those small pics :(

I'm looking forward to seeing the cockpits in action. To me they look sterile compared to CLOD's but we'll see.

I'm also hoping there will be simplified ground engine management ie the engine starting procedure. I'm all for in-air full complexity engine management but not the on-the-ground stuff.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the RAF types.

The DCS cockpits are better than CloD and both are better than BOS which are a bit flat in my opinion. They're sharper and have more functionality with just about every switch working.

For starting procedure in all DCS sims you can start on the runway all ready to go. Or if you start on the ramp you can hit a key to have the computer run through the whole start up procedure automatically.

Yes, yes!
Two engines to control with current DCS P51 criteria - what a blast that would be!!!

Obviously we don`t have to worry about the cockpits. They just look fantastic, look at those reflections in the cockpit-glases!

But I really hope they manage to design a landscape on an adequate level.
The outdated landscape of DCS is not very imersive, at least for me... So I really hope there will be a big jump forward with the new engine!

Wierd as it sounds, I know that in HSFX and SAS (and all the others), visual mods were made for the P-51, so when the game loaded the ventral fin could be removed, to make the P-51 look like the D-5.

I hope that this can be done with the DCS P-51, just so that we can have a single antenna behind the cockpit rather than the odd post-war version. A small but important visual Mod if possible?

Cheers, MP

Agree that updated landscape is a very pressing need.

This is some cool stuff. Does anyone know if you can still buy into this or not. I tried sending him an email but never heard from him or anyone else. Just curious. But have a couple of dollars now.

I've never been a fan of the drab DCS terrain graphics, but their new EDGE graphic engine looks like a huge upgrade, yet to be released. Hopefully it will be released in the coming months, and I believe Luthier is currently using the EDGE graphic engine to build the Normandy terrain.

Hey Chief,

There were similar inquiries over at ED DCS WWII forums (http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=294) about it. From the different messages and topics it is most probable you can't back it anymore. Maybe they will still open it after the official web page is up, like Star Citizen, but there has been no confirmation. Luthier wishes to deliver something before getting more money from us without having delivered anything. Paraphrasing here.

The trend has been so far that the Jug would be the free aircraft with the game and the other planes would come as additional payed packages you could buy in case you want to fly them, like in DCS currently. Instead of the three (P-47, Spitfire and Bf 109) initially intended for the free package. Luthier probably thought the stretch goals would be reached easier and the amount of total flyables would be higher. Again, no confirmation, just a poll and different opinions.

$1 backers are getting three flyables of their choice (from Spit, Mustang, FW-190D, Bf-109K, Me-262 and P-47), which costed the Kickstarter some money IMHO.

A very minor gripe but I don't like the wear on the floor, it's way too mirrored, I can't imagine that it would wear in that identical fashion.

As I said, very minor!

It wouldn't be too different, with your feet doing basically the same actions both sides, but using the same textures is generally not what I'd do. Still, I didnt notice until you pointed it out :D

Edit: theyre not even the same texture on closer inspection :pcguy: So yeah, with your feet doing basically the same stuff on both sides, the pattern of wearing would be very similar, with minor variation, as we see in the texture
