On startup, turn on compressor to spool up slave compass. Once it is settled, turn Directional gyro to match the mag compass. (Both only needed if you want AP and true navigation, otherwise you can fly manually by mag compass) In the real world these would be more accurate during turns etc. than mag compass. Dir gyro will have to be constantly updated match mag compass. (I use mag compass as slave compass not accurate 100%, I assume a bug) For ease of use, set dir gyro to mag compass during startup, take-off and get on to course using mag compass, set dir gyro to match mag compass then activate AP. Update as needed. In German planes, the directional gyro and AP course setter gauge will match up pretty close if using full navigation. In short AP goes off of DG.

As you said, co-pilot dir gyro is broke.

Course setter: Like German bombers it is just a visual guide for what course you want to fly on, it does not affect anything.
