View Full Version : Stat Whore Psychology

Apologies if this thread is redundant but there's an interesting suggestion in another thread regarding stats being visible only to the relevant player and it got me thinking. On Warclouds I used to enter mainly to have fun but after discovering stats the slide to becoming a stat whore was inevitable. Not having the skills to stay in the top kills rating the focus shifted to survival stats :laugh1 but that's besides the point. The fun diminished .. that's the point.

Most of the players are launching ATAG to join up with buddies on comms. and have some fun but a minority are using the game/stats primarily to bolster their egos at the expense of fair play (which is fun for them but annoying to the rest). Fact is they are in the minority so why not show a public top ten rating on the stats and have the rest of the stats for relevant player's eyes only. That way the top guns can still enjoy fighting their way into the top ten and new pilots can still have the goal of working their way up if they so desire. It might change the psychology of the online play and it might not.

It's just a suggestion. ATAG is already running a great server the way it's going now IMHO :dthumb:

Interesting post.

TBH, I've been puzzled at the enjoyment anyone could have at continuously strafing disadvantaged targets such as planes that are warming up on a field or just taking off. The operative term here is "continuously". Hey, I'd be the first one to join a spontaneous group on Teamspeak and slip over the Channel to stir up a hornet's nest by low level strafing an airfield (with helpless aircraft on the ground) and then fly on. But here's the difference: I'd move on.

Personally, I refuse to engage in a form of "BoB Airquake" in constantly having to defend coastal airfields to provide amusement for another group of players. Unless there's some kind of profit to be made (doubtful) by a high kill statistic....or looks good on a job resume (?)...... it's hard to fathom what satisfaction one gains from knocking out easy targets over....and over.....and over.....etc.

The ATAG server is here for EVERYONE'S enjoyment. For the Red pilots who choose to take on the Blue fighters camped out over Allied coastal airfields, more power to you! Personally, I prefer to take off from inland airfields in a Ia or Rotol and climb to high altitude to intercept incoming bombers (AI and/or human) and deal with any Axis Eagles who may be escorting them. I don't care to engage any opponent who actually prefers continuously snuffing out disadvantaged pilots.

I suggest VA_Old_Kanutsk and the same as it is losers not to watch the statistics, and their penis will not they seem so small.

Example of intelligent reply:

"Honestly your never going to remove camping and abuse in multiplayer , but stat tracking encourages it a lot more then it would otherwise."
