A Logitech G27 can be found for $200. It's built like a tank, has great force feedback (essential in sim racing), and is highly configurable.

AC is a great sim. Can't wait till the multi player comes out I've got a Fanatec set up, Porche 911 turbo S wheel and clubsport V.2 pedals. Lovely. !

LOL, that was awesome, amazed you did as well as that using a flight stick! You'll be unbeatable once you are set up with a wheel.

I also have the G27 wheel, pedals, shifter combo and think it is one of the better ones going around for the price. The only drawback in AC so far is that the gear shift only has 6 gears so for those few cars that have a non sequential manual gearbox with 7 gears (Ferrarri F40 for example) you will have to change in game settings to use the wheel paddles for shifting instead of the stick shift By default.

Not a biggie really, but one of the things I really like about AC is that by default, each car uses the mechanisms it actually has in real life ... if the car has a stick shift, the default in game is to use your stick shift....if it has paddle semi automatic or sequential gears, the default is to use your wheel paddles .... If the car has ABS, then it will have ABS in game .... That sort of thing....saves me having to research each car type to adjust in-Game settings for realism on a car by car basis as the game sets it all up for you.

Nice touch I reckon.

@ Ziegler ... nice setup mate

I've been doing quite a bit of quick racing today....have to say the AI Needs a fair bit of work. They're ok when the track around them is not too cluttered but when there is a bunch of cars (eg first few corners) they clutter up horribly, and act like homicidal maniacs ramming In to each other and me...generally knocking me off the track.

From what I've read they are aware of such issues and the AI is still being developed (early access beta still after all). Still, it's quite frustrating in that I often find I have to hold off at the start of a race, sit at the back and wait for the field to spread out a bit before making a charge.

The damage modelling is almost Non existent from what I can tell as well....I have blown engines from missing gears but all the collisions rarely hurt me...

I'd previously only been doing hot laps so hadn't seen this side of things as yet.

Still, once the cars are spread out, racing is a blast and the feeling of driving a super car is awesome in this game, so onwards and upwards...still loving the game so far and looking forward to further updates.

:salute:

EDIT: forget what I said about the damage modelling ... As I was closing the game just now I spotted an option for engine damage and visible damage ... I had both turned off somehow.

Haven't actually driven since I turned them on but will see what happens tomorrow ... How embarrassing LOL

I didn't think the damage model was implemented yet, neat.

I'm going to give this game a go.

I was waiting to get my yoke in before I went all in on a racing sim. Everything seemed pretty smooth in F1. I'm using my CH gear for racing. I know you guys will want to burn me at the stake for saying so, but I don't trust Logitec or Saitek anymore after the dozens of flight sticks I've gone through. The sensors on CH products are accurate and don't spike.

The setup works pretty well for me. :recon:

The only downside is I have to find a way to remove the mechanical deadzone. It's not much, but every millimeter counts
:ind:

And there's no FFB, but I think my girlfriend would start looking at me funny if I started putting vibrating electronic equipment on my desk
:-P

I have owned a Logitech G25 that never failed. I gave it to a friend. I now own 2 G27's and neither have failed. The pedals are so good, many sim racers who like other wheels, will add G27 pedals.

LOL

Fully understand when you've had bad experiences with a particular brand...I had to return my faulty Thrustmaster Warthog after waiting a month for the supplier in Australia to get one, took two weeks to get the replacement and then that one didn't work either ... Another couple of weeks waiting for the third one which finally worked .... Very frustrating.

Like the warthog though, if the G27 works, it's a hell of a good setup for mine and I think it's worth the money. At the end of the day, though, if your other peripherals work with the game, there's no harm in that mate!

Good to know. So no sensor spikes or anything? That was always my problem with other pieces of equipment, the sensors wear out over time. I might jump on board with a wheel someday, but I've never been sure if there is a set worth the price. Also, i'm running out of desk space! lol

Gave the game a try, it's not too bad. The DM isn't working yet, I tried a 200kph crash into a wall to no avail, car still drives like it's new. Engine managment isn't done. I can shift without using the clutch on full real. There's no gear grinding or anything as a result. I could get the older cars to backfire though, which is cool. Controls are a bit wonky to set up, gonna wind up having to edit the text files.

Looks promising.

I love how the thing goes on sale 2 days after I buy it.

Oh well, you lot are a bunch of bastards, you convinced me to join the dark side. I've pretty much jumped all in on racing now. Bought a decent wheel, pedals, shifter. Got AC and jumped into iRacing.

Now I just need to figure out how to drive...

ATAG Recreational Racing League....our motto "Flight Simmers with a Racing Problem."

Watch out for this ATAG car in this weekend's F1 season opener, the Australian Grand Prix.

I may need to add a Team Fusion co-sponsorship on the engine intake....could use some color up there. Will need to get permission from MysticPuma to use his TF Logo from videos.

Hey Naz et al,

We could set up time trials between ourselves. At the AC forums, they use the ingame friends system. They set a car and a race track for a week. Best time on Sunday is the winner. It looks like we all need to be Steam friends for the times to show up. (honestly, not really sure how it works) But I did join their Week 3 race.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/weekly-challenge-3-10th-march-till-17th-march-599xx-evo-silverstone.7239/

They just started week 4, but perhaps we should try our own here at ATAG?

Sounds like fun mate. I'll find you in steam and add you next time I'm online.

I saw the weekly challenge threads on the AC forum... But after seeing the times posted I wimped out from joining due to ... Lack of skill :-P
------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: ok mate, we are,Steam friends now

I'm also not sure how the friends leader board works but I just did some hot laps and opened the friends leaderboard app whilst in cockpit (from the menu at right hand side of screen - app was at bottom of list).

It appears that it will record best laps for the particular car/track combo and I guess will simply add the best hot lap time for that same combo recorded by anyone on your steam friends list (?).

Perhaps we can test it by agreeing a car/lap combo and then do some hotlaps each in our own time: if our respective times appear on each others lists I guess we know it works!

If anyone else wants to join in feel free to add me as a friend in Steam as well
:thumbsup::):thumbsup:

Rightyo Gorgon, I'm at work now but will add you on Steam when I get home.

I will (after work) perhaps make a new thread here as a general invite for a weekly challenge similar to that on the AC forums. Thoes who wish to enter can add me as a Steam friend and I will be able to see your hot lap times. If you want to see other participant's times you will need to add them as well..its all pretty simple but I will give instructions in the the other thread.

I'm not the most creative type and know very little about cars, so we might run a quick vote each week to select car and track for that week's challenge ?

I better get back to some work, talk later on lads!

Found a pretty interesting Youtube channel of a bloke doing his AC hotlaps with a camera also on his foot pedals. Not being a racing guru myself I had no idea drivers use one foot for both break and throttle when "blipping" for downshift ... nor had the idea even remotely crossed my mind to use left foot on brake pedal and also maintain some throttle with right foot to slide through corners .. I've got a lot to learn!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwXc8_KxRJo&list=PLhiqoEvs_DG5VLkSkhD2Uh7IUGR_SZ4gz

I saw Richard Hammond doing the two feet on pedals thing just now in an episode of Top Gear, so I guess its pretty standard?

Yes sir very important. I always race with both feet, in some racing sims (cars) it depends on the set-up. You can add more brake pressure to the front or back brakes which allow more maneuverability to the way you drive the car IE. cornering.

One of the things that really gets me hooked on various sims are the little things.

I did a race (the super car challenge) before work today, in a Ferrari 458 around Silverstone with AI. One of the cars I was chasing took a corner a little wide and its outside wheels went onto the grass ... as I was rapidly closing on him I could see chunks of grass and dirt being raked up by his rear wheel and being flung out behind him ... it looked ... really good.

Like I said, its those little things that really ramp up that "suspension of disbelief" and allows one to, at some level, forget you are sitting in an office chair with a ridiculous wheel, gear shift and pedal setup and, for a brief moment, believe you are driving a beautiful car that you know you'll never get the chance to do in the real world.

Bravo Kunos, Bravo.

It was announced as part of the v1.00 launch, they will be released as either DLC or free content. What problems are you having with Multiplayer? I've found it to be pretty robust. I've tried a few different early access products on Steam and IMHO this was by far the best one, regular updates, regular content releases and you could see genuine improvement as the process went on.

I ran two servers for a few months, the netcode is very good and the only reason I could think of there being issues are people trying to connect to servers a long way from them giving them a high ping. I dabble in iRacing, rFactor 2, pCars etc and rate it as highly as any of those in my experience. I was concerned about the multiplayer as that's the thing that let Netkar Pro down so their track record was not great but I was really relieved to see it work so well. Server side can be a bit clunky and its missing some admin tools but as far as setting up a server, choosing a track, cars, settings I found it pretty straightforward and the big plus is it has a Linux server version so its cheaper to set up a server or rent one as there are a few game server companies now supporting AC where they didn't support games like rFactor 2.

Nice video Honcho, good commentators too, though the driving seemed a little undisciplined. I like iRacing too, ran a league a while back mostly based around the MX-5. The colours are a bit too vibrant in iRacing for my taste, that intro had a lot of post processing by the creator. My biggest gripe though is thetyre model. The hype was massive for the new tyre model and for years after we've had patchy updates where not all cars ran the same version of the tyre model and for me the feeling of driving on the edge of adhesion is better in Assetto Corsa as I feel like I can hold a car on the edge and get enough feedback from the physics/tyre model/force feedback to stop it going too far where as in iRacing if you make a mistake it often ends in a spin, it didn't get its nickname iceRacing for nothing.

Yea I know exactly what you mean with the iRacing tyres. The FWD cars are almost bang on ( In my opinion) and thats all o really driver TBH, Ive tried the open wheelers and GT cars but I keep looping them or i am horrifically slow.

The BSR racingI posted up, drivers do get penalties for bad driving, but we all know when theirs that many of us in such a short space its bound to happen, or just like when doing the real thing, we start getting a bit too optimistic

Anyone else been following the P-CARS builds?

I started out in iRacing when it was in its final closed phase before launching in 2008. Back then the start of the open wheel side of the game was the Skip Barber, at the time I hated it, it felt like piloting a rocket strapped to pram wheels but it was perhaps a good lesson in car control despite my many years sim racing since I caught the bug playing Chequered Flag on my ZX Spectrum.

Alongside the MX-5 league we also used the Star Mazda for open wheel races as it takes quite a bit of damage before becoming undriveable. I still enjoy dipping in and out of IRacing and it is still the best structured racing service in my opinion but I just love the feeling of driving on the edge and pushing the limit in Assetto Corsa.

I bought into pCars a few years ago. It felt very arcade to begin with but graphically drop dead gorgeous, even better than Assetto Corsa. Over the last 18 months the physics and handling have improved a lot and brought it much closer to the sim end of the racing spectrum although not as good as Assetto Corsa and IRacing in my opinion but I'd recommend taking a look at it.

The more I play this sim, the more I like it.Here's a little video I recently uploaded , driving the Lotus 49 at my favorite track(Imola).I know I am a noob at this and doing good against the AI means next to nothing, but I just enjoy driving the older cars and catching the slides as the back end starts to step out:-P

Great skills Royraiden old chap!

I tend to spin off on around lap 2.

Do you have a wheel? I'm struggling with an x-box controller here.

Yes I do, actually I have a whole setup:
Fanatec CSR Wheel
Fanatec Clubsport V2 pedals
Csr Shifters
CSL Seat

Ironically I have spent more money on the racing sim gear recently than what I had spent on flight sim gear for a few years.Cant wait for Oculus Rift, it will take both flight sims and racing sims to a whole new level. And by the way I started out playing with my Xbox 360 controller for steering and my flight sim pedals for gas and brake like a year ago with F1 2013, it was a pain, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided to buy the whole racing gear without even trying a proper racing sim first. And dont worry about spinning, the first weeks playing Assetto Corsa I was so frustrated because I spun at almost every corner just by "breathing" on the throttle:recon:

I had quite similar problem (Assetto Corsa vs rFactor2).

Regarding Project: CARS, some states, that racecars behave more like Assetto way. Sounds great for civilian driver. ;) But... last year I had possibility to drive Ariel Atom. I would say, rFactor car simulation was pretty acurate.

After I read many posts, this time I decided to bought Asseetto Corsa, as I figured out, that some known modders from rFactor switched to AC. rFactor2 is still beta(?).

Hey Fella's I have been getting more and more into this race sim. Have very little knowledge on car set-ups, but I have started a server to screw around on. I normally like the F1 or earlier open wheel cars. If any of you are interested I can run the server for a few laps around the track :) ANON6 Racing is the name of the server. PM if interested

Im trying to decide on what first racing sim to get for the PC. I have project cars on the xbox one so will most likely be AC. Quick question, im pondering on getting a decent seat, but i want to be able to use it for flight simming and racing. ive been looking at playseats and they do one for flight sims, but not sure if this would be any good for racing. And vice versa for the racing seats. Any suggestions??
