Hi gents,

my wife ask me an interesting question:

Why we have always nice weather on the maps in our little war and no rain?

i told here, that i think it is because of:

1. to hard for the pc or server
2. not possible in CoD
3. no one wants a map like this

but i told here we have now wind on the maps :)

so what do you think about a map with havy rain, when it is possible?

i would love it , even when it means that i have to fly low :-)

regards

With the blasted winter we've had this year on the coast of Maine, USA, it's rather soothing to come into game and have a beautiful CAVU day! :)

Totally in for this! I don`t care how bad the weather is, as long as it`s immersive to fly...

And I imagine it beeing very immersive to hardly see the bombers you should escort trough the rain, losing orientation, finally be forced to use the compas to navigate...
Well, in short: Rain, Snow, etc... it would be a dream come true...

I think that a lot of MP pilots do not want to get distracted too much from basic dogfighting. Personally, I like having some clouds and some wind but as soon as you have to concentrate too much on the environment conditions and too less on your squadron mates or opponents it would become stressful in a negative way. The only hurricane I want to see in MP is the one you can set on fire. :D

But I would be totally fine with not always flying in perfect daylight conditions. I think starting the mission in a late sunrise time would add something. I definitely would prefer it over a mission with a sunset scenario.

Always dogfighting in ideal conditions is boooring.
It`s a simulation, so let's simulate, heavy cloud cover where bombers are hiding on their way to the targets.
A small thunderstorm makes flying through it a challenge, and a chance to escape when the opponent isn't daring enough.
9/10 cloud cover between 1500 to 3000 m on the way to the target, where are the navigators?
Diversity is the way to success, imo.

With the weather, whether it is implemented or not, just take Aldertag, the start of which was delayed a few days due to... poor weather conditions. Plus even if you had modern radar and navigation would you want to be in a ww2 fighter/bomber and have this happen?

There's weather you'd fly in and weather you wouldn't, even during war.

I'm impressed your wife had a constructive question on Clod  My wife also ask Clod related questions sometimes, but they are more in line with "How long are you going to sit in front of that thing tonight?" :D

As much as I would love to see rain in Clod it's way down the TF to-do list -an enormous amount of work for an effect that very few desire to flight in anyway :D
...and Mudcat does have a very valid point -operations where generally postponed during bad weather

Cheers/m

Hi Mattias,

she also flys from time to time, she gets the 109 on the runway, can take of, flys straight, can climb and turn. over here landings we dont need to talk :)

i also here the same from my wife, but as an smart sim-fan i know how to please my wife, so i have enough time to fly, beta test, post some thinks, etc. or other way around i traind me wife well :-)
and i give here space for here stupit FarmVille 2 :banghead: and she reads most of the threads here in english and german forum to understand why here Little_D gets sometimes mad and loud when
he plays this game :)

normaly we all that have wifes/girlfriends should carry them on hands, that they let us play this game for hours

@Mudcat
I've read so many books where there were accidents because of the weather, even on take off.
I believe you've would be surprised how 'no fly' weather was defined then.:D

Hehe, I'm happy you found a sound balance and I must say me and my wife got a good balance as well -her spoiled horse needs constant service and I usually manage to schedule my Clod time accordingly :)

Water droplets/condensation on the screens would be nice as in BOS, very nice effect.

The ATAG Full AI server has ground fog and sunrise mission, check it out. For those who don't wanna be distracted dogfighting in weather, then check out the dogfight server. I don't know if the code is hidden, or it was never fully developed, but it is a must for TF 5.0ish. The current ATAG server seems to be slightly graphically reduced in terms of cloud and sunrise/sunset missions.

I'd like to see a completely overcast mission with an oasis of bright sunshine above the cloud; I'd hate to see our framerates though.

Let me guess...
And you also want a break in the clouds just above the target you're bombing, right? :)

~S~ All,

Back in IL-2 I seem to recall some bad weather coops that, while really immersive (in a stressfull way), were also pretty frustrating. Very difficult to spot contacts or ground targets, turbulence made aiming very difficult, and navigation was job number 1. Sorties were often fruitless, as in real life. Probably be like the night mission that was in ATAG circulation for a while...very difficult to find and engage.

I would like to see more cloud cover in occasional missions, however I get this weird anomaly when in heavy cloud missions where at certain altitudes (draw distance?), the clouds will blink off and on as I scan the sky. Sometimes my gunsight disappears during the same instances...very annoying. Not sure if it's a limitation of my equipment (i5-760, GTX770, 8GB RAM) or code-related. Hardware Monitor graph following such occurrences doesn't seem to indicate that my components are overly taxed.

This is a problem that has existed since day 1 and is due to too many cloud/smoke particles which causes the whole 'drawing pass' to be rejected- and the increased cloud now used by mission builders shows this up occasionally.
Sometimes zooming in a couple of clicks CAN ameliorate the effect.

This is known to TF (see bugtracker #497) and it is being looked at- it is a tricky little bugger tho:recon:

I get a weird effect where I seem to be coming out of the cloud and can see ahead but if I turn my head 45 degrees there is no visibility at all. The dense cloud just switches on & off at a certain angle. Not a major issue though as it only happens at the boundary I think.

Re. The comment about solid cloud cover causing bad framerate issues, I have always thought that if you put on a solid layer of featureless stratus then the framerates above the cloud would be extremely good because there is no ground detail to draw, just solid white. It would have been a problem while we still had the bug that caused 'dots' below the cloud to appear above the cloud but the last patch has fixed that.
Perhaps there is something about the way solid stratus is drawn that means my assumption is wrong though.

Bad wether was one of the reasons for D-Day outcome. Close air support was not effective . Paratroopers dropped on wrong places. Invationfleet was not attacked by airplanes.
Low overcast made flying very little effective and resulted in aborted missions, This is why wether are mostly good when we fly.
For me this is totally not interesting, flying bombers I cannot aim at my target.
Windy conditions make high altitude more challenging and could be a option for some maps, but put on all it ultimately will frustrate the crap out of any bomber pilot.
I understand why you asking, but this should be on a fighter only server

Adverse weather is interesting in Clod, it's indeed weird to always fly in good weather. However, I feel clouds are modeled in a strange way in this game. Sometimes you can look straight forward and see what's going on at 2 o'clock, then turn your heads towards 2 o'clock and suddenly a clous is there to block your vision.
