Team Fusion Simulations Update 6 July, 2019 - 5.0 Map WIP
The Team Fusion Simulations map team have selected five areas of interest as they work through what is a massive task populating the North Africa map.
The map is in Alpha stage, and many more additions and improvement are being added to the map. It does not include the new cloud systems and weather, or other details such as rock formations or rocky abuttments, distance views, etc. etc. which will be seen in the final version.
We are attempting to be as accurate to 1941 information as possible. Researching accounts of the troops fighting, books, lots of Australian war pictures, and of course Zoom Earth, as surprisingly, a lot is still visible, or at least the earth disturbances, so we can piece pictures of structures to actual map and areas.
The screenshots shown are from the following:
Derna area - Red clay and high plains with hamlets placed correctly as per military maps produced in 1941. Derna city is currently a work in progress, with textures and building placement to be added.
Sidi Barrani - Egyptian town on east of map. Fort/barracks and town areas.
There are small towns dotted along the coast and inland under Sidi Barrani. Work is currently underway completing the town and surrounding forts.
Bardia - Libya. Across border from Egypt. Work in progress. Screenshot shows the fort and harbour area accurate to pictures of the day.
Ft. Capuzzo - Based from pictures of the day. The area is still visible from Zoom Earth. Italian, on border with frontier wire placed.
Tobruk - Near completion. As per military maps at the time. Redoubts in surrounding areas also near completion, along with surrounding forts.

As am amatuer student of the air war in North Africa and having made several campaigns in the original il-2 im very excited to see the level of detail afforded to places/town/forts etc. the NA campaign was very much a struggle for airfields and key towns (bardia being one example of high importance for australias military history) and its great to see they will be the apparent centerpieces of this map.

Mission builders should be able to make very geographically accurate missions/campaigns in this area now and that will be exciting.
Thanks TFS.

....so atmospheric, Pat, and I love the attention to detail which, as you explained, is still in progression.
Once everything is in place this map will be the best way any of us can experience the North Africa of 1941 that we read so much about in the aviation biographies. Exciting work TFS! Salute!

Two things I really like on the new map is that beautiful looking Mediterranean sea water and I'm just noticing now the way the horizon looks. I'm guess once those small rocks and tumble weed like bushes are added thing will look even better  :salute:
Edit..I was wondering about the geographical area of the map and has this been altered some since the release of this sample that was out..three or four years ago?

No, it's hasn't been altered. It's still exactly that part of the coast from a little west of Derna to a little east of Sidi Barrani. There's more sea room to the north and more desert area to the south making the map more of a square than that early (rectangular) picture.

Can't wait, love to land in that sandbox. Now i saw a few buildings & cars in the video, but where are the tents, or camels?

Re: Team Fusion Simulations Update 6 July, 2019 - 5.0 Map WIP
Tents are there but all camels are dead or fled to the desert....only skeletons remains (see Pattle's updates :-) )

Re: Team Fusion Simulations Update 6 July, 2019 - 5.0 Map WIP
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I recently got the CoD Blitz and was wondering if 5.0 is going to bring any improvements to:
a) LOD radius. When flying in CoD Blitz especially buildings seem to pop up a lot. I'd love to have some control over how far from the aircraft things are being rendered so I can increase this and get rid of the problem at the expense of FPS.
b) Anti Aliasing. There seems to be a lot of jaggies going on that I can't seem to be able to get rid of regardless of my settings, both in-game and through Nvidia control panel. I think this alone would greatly improve the way the sim looks.

Both are being looked at.
