Re: Level Bombing Utility
That's fantastic. And it automatically inputs both base airfield and target elevations from clicking on the points on the map? Or have I got that wrong?
Do you have to pinpoint the target itself, or just the overall grid ref square?
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Yep you are right. So it could be used for setting correct altitude in any plane. Don't know how they do it. But this stuff is soo cool :)

It will give you the in game elevation at that exact point on the map; Colander's genius at work yet again!
Re: Level Bombing Utility
That's bloody marvelous. I haven't been following the thread that closely (all Jerry stuff you understand).
So what are the chances of one in imperial units for us Blenny Pukes? There's a chocolate hobnob in it for you chaps. :D

Thats a great idea. That way all the RAF could also use this to set their take off height correctly as well. Don't want to speak for Colander, but I think you could add another block that automatically adjusts to feet as well. Should be a simple conversion.
And chocolate hob nobs LOL. :)
Re: Level Bombing Utility
I don't know the slightest thing about how the bombsight in the Blenny works, if you share some info with me I'm sure I could come up with something.
Re: Level Bombing Utility
I haven't tried any high level stuff with the new patch as yet, but it was never very effective over 6000ft before.
It's a simple matter of inputting height above target and true airspeed, as there's no wind at the moment as far as I know, but the info we were lacking was target height, and we were finding that inputting IAS was more accurate than TAS at these lower altitudes as a result.
There's also a parameter on the sight for sideslip, but again that's I presume for use in a crosswind. I'd have no idea what to do with that yet if wind was present, but just the existing parameters you currently have, but in imperial units would be great. :)
As I understand the theorists, there's an unusually low barometric pressure modelled in the game, plus no indication of temperature as far as I know, which screws up IAS/TAS calcs to a degree I'm told, so I've always gone off the table in the game manual, which I'm assuming you chaps have too, and adjusted altimeter downwards before take-off by five clicks of the adjuster (very technical). This shows 995mb for pressure and the correct 72ft altitude at Littlestone.
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Again I think we will run into that issue where you cant see over the instrument panel to get properly lined up. You loose sight of the target several miles away, by the time is shows up again , youre right over it :grrr:

Yep, But I'm thinking more along the lines of carpet bombing bigger targets in the future, such as the industrial complex at Calais in Wolf's map. With small targets like the tanks at Desvres, we'd still use the old low and fast approach, but for big factory complexes, or railway yards, the view problem wouldn't be so great I think.
Obviously Calais is on the coast so target elevation isn't a prob, but there'll be bigger targets inland too, which again may not be such a problem view wise.
There's a railway yard in Ramsgate, so I'll take a Blen up to 10,000 and check out the view issue. It'll be tomorrow tho, it's 2.00am here :)
Re: Level Bombing Utility
I have no idea of how the red or blue sights work but, as with the Lotfe sight, if some one provides the formulas, I can put up a page for it.

I'd have thought there's a job for you anywhere with those skills Colander, wish I had them but I don't even know where to start with giving you the necessary parameters (good word? Sounds math-ish).
Thanks,
Septic.
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Based on that automatic map elevation technology, I have a sneaky suspision that Mr. Colander has the skills to possible make a custom map, lol. But that is pure conjecture on my part.
Thanks!
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Even if I could make a custom map, it would need to be installed on every client, just like the beta's. The problem with that is that every time we get an update, it would be gone.

I agree, with 4 or more carpet bombing would be the ticket
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Nice job on the utility guys!
Re: Level Bombing Utility
When the heck are you gonna get in here and use it???
Re: Level Bombing Utility
New "functionality" added (mainly because I was bored :D )
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Here was today's mission using the utility.
He-111 Pilots
ATAG_Chasing_Fear
Hunger
ATAG_Keller
109 Fighter Escort
ATAG_Colander
ATAG_JHAT
(There was a third, somebody remind me)
Preparing for takeoff (ATAG_Doc was with us but had to leave)

Bored ??!!??
The 3D bombsight is a cool addition. I'd hate to see what would happen if you really set your mind to something!

Re: Level Bombing Utility
Love those screenshots Keller. It's good to know you chaps can fly formations now. It's got to be the most satisfying part of flying bombers IMO.
Just wish we had Wellingtons..........:(
Any chance one of you blokes could make a formation vid clip?
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Next time we take a flight of 111's I'll try to get the guy in the rear to Fraps it.
Re: Level Bombing Utility
If we can get 4 or more I will fraps or from all the different planes. I got my video sorted out and it looks good now.
Re: Level Bombing Utility
Just in case someone dont know, this utility can be accessed in game - in overlay like a map - using STEAM Browser (Shift+Tab).
