Let's team up then, I'll provide the ruse of engaging em in a fair 'n square 1 on 1, then you sneak a quick takeoff out the back door. They wont know what hit 'em!

Make sure you login early to allow the skin to load. Sometimes it can take up to 45 min depending on size of skin file. Best practice is try to keep it under 500kB.

Re: Tiger Moth Shoot-up #9
Hi Guys
I thought I might want to give the next Tiger Moth Shoot-up a try, but in order to do so, I thought it might be good to learn how to fly this old bird. So I decided to give it a whirl the other day, but encountered some difficulties that someone might be able to help me remedy.
From investigating various sources, I learned the start-up procedure for the Tiger Moth, but when I actually tried the procedure I had some problems getting my aircraft started. So I fiddled with the throttle and mixture settings, to try to get the old bird going. Nothing seemed to be working, and I was about to give up in frustration, when I suddenly discovered that one of my attempts had actually started the plane. In fact several attempts may have actually started the aircraft, but I simply was not aware of it. The problem: I was listening for the engine noise to confirm start up. When I didn't hear the engine running, I assumed my attempt had failed, so I went on to try something else. What I discovered is that there appears to be a problem with the sound file on my computer. When I start the Tiger Moth, there is a noise that I can only describe as a "popping" sound. You know, like an electronic "popping" sound every couple of seconds. It was only when I noticed the vague blur of the propeller spinning, that I realized the engine was running. After waiting for the engine to warm up, I was able to apply more throttle, and once I applied approximately 30% throttle, then I was able to hear the actual engine. It is really strange since I've never encountered this problem with any of the other aircraft that I fly.
My question is, has anyone else encountered this problem, and if you have, what did you do to remedy it.

There is no problem with the sound file on your computer. We all hear the same.
That's the way it starts, and it may be confusing the first times.
You'll see the prop spinning slowly as if under its own inertia.
If you missed the attempt the prop would have stalled.
Just need to be patient and wait for a minute or more at around 10%, and only then throttle up firmly, and wait again for the engine coughs to go away (another few seconds), then warm it up at around 85% for another minute or so...
The below describes the procedure.

See you at Shoot-Up #10

Thanks Noofy, it's good to know that what I'm experiencing is "the norm." I guess I was expecting something more. All the other sound files for this game seem so great ... this one however (at least at the low rpm's) is less than desirable. :stunned:

Remember that these engines were started by hand... here is the real thing:
