    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

    Loving that 2nd pic Buzz...haha...class!

My younger bro did a similar trip on the east coast India on a hired Enfield...He broke the frame behind the front forks...He said the bike started to wobble...He got it welded in a village...Then his electrics went and again he got it fixed in another village...He said they completely rewired the bike...there was wires everywhere took them 4 hours and cost him less than a single buck...Stupidly cheap and in every village there's folks who can fix Enfields...Once he got out of the city he found the Indians very honest people...He said you could leave your camera on your bike and leave it and when you came back there'd be a crowd around your bike but nothing touched...Everyone thought he was someone famous cos he was white...

When he came back home he said the weird thing was that all the men had moustaches...but that they surely couldn't all have thought that it suited them...

He loved India...He's been back a couple times and Nepal...and Everest base camp...

Man that looked like an awesome trip. My bro made several trips into nowhere in northern India/Nepal. Looks like it'd be a great place to visit.

My brother's Z-1000 has stubby little ASV brake and clutch levers that you can just about get 1 and 9 10ths of a fingers on.

    I hate them... !

    I like three fingers.

One of my rides for the past 27 years. Mountain bike is in the shed at present.

It's taken me from San Diego to San Francisco, around Taiwan (was supposed to do China, but knocked off bike in Taiwan and buggered knee for a bit.... ), parts of the Yukon, where i lived for two years, and plenty of other places as well. During the winter it is quite happy to sit on the trainer while i pedal it and watch Netfix (just finished "Guy Martin:Last Flight of the Vulcan Bomber", which i thought was going to be a Star Trek thing )or listen to music.

Note my dad's 50 + yo X-country skis in the background. Never use them but just can't get myslef to throw them out........

    Scuze the mess please.

    You folks have beautiful bikes!

@Heinz; Wow! Lovely, original Mk.III Electric start Commando. As a 750 Bonneville guy I'm never sure whether to feel great pity or intense jealousy.

Two summers ago, in a moment of weakness and lunacy I bought this

    IMG_8475.jpg

It was comfy, responsive, braked and handled superbly.....as long as you were doing more than 90mph.

I dunno.....still not convinced that any motorcycle needs more than two cylinders

    I hear you Zeb.

I'm not in good shape at the moment. As we get older it's harder to stay uninjured isn't it.

Having a treadmill and bike on a trainer is helping because they are set up in my basement and i can watch Netflix, which is a good distraction.
When i hurt one part of me running, i can switch to the bike and bike to mill as needed.
The niceer weather is calling me outdoors again though.

More importantly i need to be sure i get some exercise before i sit down here and play.

But anyhow, ya, get the bike out and head around the block and just go from there; even that will feel good.

Yeah that's what made me fall in love with her.. the throttle response was so smooth and the low end torque curve was out a monster. Coupled with dropping the gearing a tooth and wider back tire. I wished I didn't have to sell it. I'm hoping I can dig up a couple pics eventually.

Thx DRock, it's great riding terrain.
I have since moved to another city but depending on which route you choose there you could do a loop of between 80 - 140km of that with a smorgasbord of climbs to varying degrees of difficulty.

Well, my bike is slowly dying, already replaced the head gasket 2 years ago when it started to sweat, now the base gasket is leaking, which will be an even higher repairbill
coupled with a cracked downpipe, I don't think it's worth the effort anymore, especially when it has already ran 93K Kms

I thought that terrain looked familiar. Were the cuts on your arm from the thorn bushes?

Indeed, par for the course there and just superficial scratches most of the time.

That section is at a place called Dewildt north of Pretoria, a short stretch of the '3 Fences route' on the way to what we call the 'First Fence' where I stopped under the tree.

The enterprising rural folk that live out there cottoned on to the fact that they can make money from the dirtbikers, so along that river bed they made 3 sort of fences that function as informal toll gates
No fixed price but if pass there with a group of riders at least one bloke is expected to pay a small fee, no more than a dollar at each fence.

    Keeps the locals happy.
