Here is a short list of what new pilots should focus on
EVERYONE FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS
Everyone in this community is very helpful so please post questions and either myself or another experienced flyer can probably muster a decent response.
When i learned CLOD it seemed to be in this order.
1. fly and control your aircraft properly
2. navigation: finding your way using just a stinky old map and landmarks to seek out objectives, airfields etc.
3. target spotting.. this is an art. you must know the routine of your enemy, knowing where to look and when. Knowing is half the battle.
4. wingmanship: learning how to fly with buddies, escorting, flying formations, etc. A clear understanding of the individual strengths and weaknesses of the people you fly with is imperative.
5: Gunnery: This includes figuring out your loadouts and figuring out how you can kill the enemy best with your skills. for example, i suck at shooting from direct 6 o clock thus i adopted tactics that serve my "style"
6:Tactics and Dogfighting: In this simulator you will experience all sorts of various encounters, thus you will ALWAYS be making changes and figuring out new things in this area. You will never be tactically perfect and no matter what you will eventually be put into a situation where the tactics you were once using no longer apply and you need to react.
None of these lessons are finite, you will always be learning and adapting new ideas and tactics to every aspect of Cliffs of Dover.
you will soon discover how satisfying it is to blow another player out of the sky because you flew your bird better and your tactics were superior.
The ultimate payoff will be when you are up there with your wingman on teamspeak blowing f*ckers out of the sky like hotcakes and returning to base riddled with bullets with an empty fuel tank .. but f*ck it you made it home and completed your mission so rock n roll!
good luck to you all
