The birds do not have a collision model, neither do the woolly mammals.

So whatever you might be thinking, you can't actually do anything to the Sheep, Highseas.

Oleg's biggest blunder IMHO. Hopefully TF 7.5 will be able to restore the lost coding to the Sheep DM and it's A.I. behaviour

Map is surprisingly well optimized for the level of detail in France. I'm getting a pretty solid 55 to 60 fps at 4k.

If they can use the 109 AI model then finally we will see sheep acting like sheep!!

I think the messy release caused many to go "uh-ho" and it seems some of the settings have been upped too and there is ALWAYS a user reluctance to turn stuff down. It runs very nice for its new release status though if one is sensible. I think though it makes EDs recommended system specs pretty much the minimum.

    More RAM on order!

Apart from the terribly slow download, and a minor acitivation issue the process went well.
Skatezilla's app helped on the activation side, when I finally pointed it to the right directory.

Other than that, it runs like butter and looks bloody marvelous.
Some of the aircraft require some tlc still to enjoy the new lighting but that will come along shortly enough.

I cannot start the damned thing, How I sometimes hate DCS crap. Well I knew I probably threw money out of the window buying those Normandy and asset shit.
I probably just uninstall 20 andkeep 1,5 until they got something I bother messing with.

    Maybe something that can help

After I updated my game was hanging on startup on the DCS start page (the black splash screen with DCS in the middle)
Tried a few times same story, but then realized what was happening was the updated Normandy modules in v2.1 wanted activation before going further, and the activation pop up box was not front and center but behind the DCS screen, if that makes sense.

2 ways to fix, activate with Skatezillas dcs app, or run the game windowed at a lower res just to get the acitvation done when it pops up.
    I went with skates app.

I've got a GTX 1080ti in the box so that's probably helping.

AI aircraft don't appear to know just yet how to deal with the hangars yet. In a test mission I set up my AI wingmen properly took off, flew with me, engaged enemies, and RTB'd (at least the one who survived). They land REALLY heavily on the runway (if it were a player aircraft, the gear struts would be through the wings) but it doesn't seem to affect them. After taxiing to a hangar, the AI wingman parked. When I tried to get him going again, he turned and drove right into the side of the hangar.

I like the new ability to change your aircraft code on the fly through the rearm/refuel menu. That'll make mission designing for multiplayer co-ops where people want their own codes much much easier.

If you guys want to try a mission you can download this one I made: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.c...2145/index.php

By default you're in a P-51 on escort duty but if you go into the mission editor you can select Colt 1 for ground attack P-51 duty, or Enfield 1 for Spitfire fighter duty. It's got briefings in-game and you should see a message when your team destroys the enemy tanks.

    YOU CAN DO THIS NOW?

    AWESOME!

I'm so sick of seeing mission designers just place a whole bunch of spitfires with "01-0" as the code...

    Have a gander at this.

So I tested a few things following some random posts on Eagle about performance and the like. I always knew Nevada ran very well and better than the default DCS.
After the alpha and 2.1 alpha incorporation I was quite surprised. look at the vram/ram/cpu usage amongst the 3. V1.5 hardly uses anything but suffers. pre Alpha and 2.1 use more and max the gpu.

Would be interested if anyone can confirm the gpu / memory / cpu usage with the std 1.5 versus pre alpha or alpha.

    See this
Shows MSI afterburner hardware use for the 3 instals.

Game settings for all versions (pretty identical)

    Is my 1.5 instal borked?
It may well be, its been through a few hard drive transfers and massaging over the years?

Yes, it's in the bottom right of the refuel/rearm menu once you bring it up.

If you want your aircraft, for example, to be YO-X with serial number BW801, then enter
YOXBW801 as the aircraft number and it'll change your markings accordingly.

Awesome. I knew how to do it in the mission editor but this is great. Now we can recognise each other by markings like in IL2.

If you ever see YO-Y you'll know who it is.

How is the new damage model or has that all been added in yet? This was my main problem with the ww2 planes in DCS so far.

That teased "new damaged model" is not finished/released... maybe in "more two years".

If people are struggling with performance on the Normandy map and haven't seen Wags post I'll repost it here:

    - If using Deferred Shading, you may wish to set your MSAA and Anisotropic values to zero, and instead enable these only through your graphics cards settings manager.
see Wags full post here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188117

Also, if you've had the alpha client on your machine before the Normandy map, you might try removing the contents of your metashader folder (located: C:\Users\xxxx\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\metashaders). It seems to hold old shaders and I found my load times were faster after deleting the contents of metashader and allowing DCS to rebuild them again (this will happen the first time you load the game and the map). I'd recommend safety first, send them to your clean recycle bin and if you encounter issues you can always recover them straight afterwards (from the recycle bin). Seemed to work for me and a couple others I know. I'm pretty sure this will only work if you have old shaders in the folder from a pre alpha 2.1 install - so if you have a fresh alpha install don't bother with this. Here's a link to a post on the ED forums from others finding this useful https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188421

[edit] I'm now also using reshade (https://reshade.me/) for DCS, tweeking brightness settings among others to improve the look of Normandy while they sort that out.

    Thx Bounder.
Will do some housekeeping my side.
For me though both the pre alpha and 2.1 seem to run like silk. Oddly, 1.5 seems to lag behind although still fine.

It will be a great day in Africa (as we say here) or for that matter other less significant places like europe and the us to be friendly , when it is all merged into one install, coming soon to a theater near you!
Actually cannot wait to delete everything once and for all and start afresh with a single install.

DCS is adding the flak and beach defences next week, followed by the new damage models in the near future, and some more AI units like the Ju-88, C-47, the SdKfz 234 Puma, and my favourite, the Sd.Kfz 251 Half-track.

Whats the policy on the Texture Templates? they seem very hit and miss in terms of what is available.

    Is 2.1.0.5677 the latest update?

Mine didn't seem to go through the usual update screen since an update was announced, so just making sure.

    Thanks.

Friday update took it to v2.1.0.6002

You can also try run the updater from the version specific instal folder directly, just double click on it.
