    So, what's the deal here?

    Cheers all,

My apologies, but can someone please help a noob out?

Here's where I'm coming from: back in the day, me and some pals of mine flew a sim called Warbirds, and it was a blast for quite a while. A lot of squads (mine included) organized their official scoring, etc, around something I'm sure you'd all recognize, which we called the S3 (http://www.squadselectseries.com/). That was the "Big Game" for us that happened every week or so. One life for the event and the results posted to the web etc. Still going on and still a blast I hear.

Time passed, the game changed, a lot of people left but kept in touch as friends. Now I've been bitten hard by the Team Fusion bug and am trying to convince some of those old friends to join me here. I've already got one former squad leader trying to work out his micro-stutters here on the board, and got another former squad leader up-to-date on his mods today; I expect to see him up by this weekend. These are guys who could each bring 20+ historical-event minded new pilots to the flightline: I've flown with and against their pilots for years, and those guys are going to *want* some of this. B^)

I myself currently have a squad of two; but I'm hopeful that number will change, and I'm interested in flying historical, scored events and/or campaigns.

So, try as I might, I cannot find The Idiot's Guide to Team Fusion CLOD Events.

I've poked around the board here quite a bit, been to various other websites linked from here, looked at the different campaigns (that are still?) going on; but I'm not new at this kind of thing, and I find it all very confusing.

Thus, my questions are: if I wanted me some S3-style action, where would would I go? Who would I talk to? What are my options? Where should I send my pals?

I was hoping I'd find one post or thread somewhere that would give me all or at least some of those answers in one shot, but it has thus far remained elusive.

So, if I haven't just made a complete fool of myself because I've missed something blindingly obvious; might I suggest that someone knowledgeable, rather than reply to me directly, start a thread summarizing all that, and sticky the sucker? Perhaps something akin to that excellent Beginner's Guide that Lewis is always hawking, but aimed at the historical/event- minded pilot? Just a thought.

Anyway, I've got 109s' flight of two, and I'm looking for a fight ;^)

    Punt!

Exactly what I need (being one of the former CO's I think
Vadr is referring to - the one with the stutters ;-)

Events are a blast. Pre-registration, planning, executing.
And there is a second ATAG server which might be great for
it. The main server for your daily aircombat fix, and the event
server for your weekly historical airwar fix. Even with 'just' this
part of the ETO a dozen event-ideas jump to mind.

Re: So, what's the deal here?

Various different groups and server offer various different events at various different times.

There is no one single place where all of this information is available. It is sometimes considered slightly dubious behavior to advertise and/ or promote activities on one server in the home or forum of one of the others . . .

    Storm of War, Air Combat Group, and 401 Squadron all host specific multiplayer events that are open to the interested general player base. But these events are sometimes "on-off" and sometimes they run regularly. It's not practical to list them all in once place becasue the schedules change frequently and no-one can be expected to manage and maintain this changing list. The best way to find out what is going on is to keep an eye on their various forums;

    Storm of War: http://sowc.forumotion.co.uk/
    Air Combat Group: http://www.aircombatgroup.co.uk/forum/index.php
    401 Sqn: http://401squadron.boardforum.ca/

Team Fusion does NOT organise events. TF is a group that builds the patches. TF itself has no server.

ATAG (who host this forum and 2 servers) has previously held special events, and may do so again in the future. ATAG provides the bulk of the "free play" environment for Cliffs of Dover [Snapper can clarify, but I think the term "sand-box" is appropriate to describe what ATAG offer server-wise]

Unfortunately, there still seems to be the impression out there that ATAG is the only place to get what players want from this game. This puts un-necessary pressure on ATAG to do everything for everyone, all the time. It also means that a lot of the other amazing multi-player servers and organisations out there go un-noticed and under-attended.

    Hi Vadr

Get hold of Osprey on the forums or pop on over to ACG.
ACG fly historically based campaigns. Its all about the event more than the scoring though however each pilot will post an after action report and an 'overall' tally at the end of that specific campaign (which runs every Sunday for a few weeks) is noted.

Its mass bomber formations with escorts and interceptors. If you are scared of heights it wont be your cup of tea, as its high level stuff mostly starting above 5000m when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Im sure Osprey and the lads will welcome you in on a Sunday campaign to give it a test run anytime.

It's tense stuff and cracking fun.

Re: So, what's the deal here?

    Hi Vadr,

Some good posts here. Vlerkies is correct, we at ACG run historically accurate missions chronologically, we're presently on August the 12th in the BOB and on Mission 23 having started in France. We still have about another 12-18 missions in order to complete the BOB.

Fights are human Wing vs human Gruppe, about 60 human pilots each time, and we chuck in about 40-60 AI too.

I don't know what to say other than to watch our promotional film to see how serious we are with this, and any of the other ACG mission films to get a feel of things real time. You may of course post in our forums and join us in Teamspeak, or get more info from this thread:
    http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.co...read.php?t=861

Our movie is on the homepage of
    www.aircombatgroup.co.uk

You can find missions which the pilots have recorded in the Sim Theatre such as:
    http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.co...ad.php?t=12139

Or browse through the Cinema in our forums
    http://www.aircombatgroup.co.uk/foru...forum.php?f=44

Just to be clear though, this is an internal campaign for ACG members and pilots who wish to try the campaign who are considering joining us as a full member. We don't poach from other squadrons so if you are in another group then it is best that you are clear with their command about your plans - it is important for us to keep strong relations with other crews.
This doesn't extend to flying outside, you may join us in Teamspeak anytime.

Whatever you decide, enjoy IL2 COD.
