Cool Today I flew over the entire CLoD map, IN REAL LIFE!

SCROLL DOWN, THERE ARE LOTS OF PICTURES AND VIDEOS!

Yesterday, I went down to North Weald (The base of eagle squadron) Where a couple of friends picked me and my father up in a Cessna 172. We flew south over Eastchurch and vectored towards Manston/Ramsgate, (Unfortunately the weather was awful over the English Knob so we couldn't fly over it)

I then took over control, and very gladly vectored the plane towards Dover at 500ft. I kept the Castle on the right, and then made a sweeping right hand turn over Dover harbour! I flew down the coast to the south, past where Hawkinge and Lympne used to be (They are built over now with houses and schools etc.) We then vectored down towards English Point, past over the former Littlestone and landed at Lydd.

After Lunch at Lydd, we went North, directly over Biggin Hill, and got ATC permission to cross London at 1500ft above Canary Wharf. It was spectacular!!!

After Landing, we waved our friends goodbye, as they flew back home to White Waltham. We then decided it would be a good idea to drive all the way to Lincoln to buy a guitar, cash in hand, from a guy that was selling it on eBay (It's a Beauty) After that we drove all the way back to Norwich, and finally arrived home at 22:58 Local Time, after an 8am start, and 4 hours of sleep the night before due to excitement

Wow, what a fantastic adventure, Jack, made all the better by sharing it with your Dad. To top it off, you grabbed a new guitar!!! Other than having the Spitfire girl with you, how does it get any better than that?

Looking forward to seeing any pics or videos you've made of a trip that so many of us can only WISH for.

    That was really great:

Thanks for that: Funny for being on the "other side of the Pond" and playing COD for the last year, all those areas your flew over were so recognizable.

I am going to start taking flying lessons when I get back in August, and hopefully will go solo by Christmas.

Bare/Bear? (Sorry brain fart can't remember the spelling) in mind Dutch, if you want to do this, fuel is pretty steep at the minute and it will be about 80 quid an hour. If you know anyone that is a private pilot, that can take you up then you might get some stick time.

If you're planning on learning, once you get your PPL, get something like a 1/16th share in a plane (should be under 5 grand) then you can use it whenever you like. You might have to pay a small fee every year for maintenance. This may seem like an expensive hobby, but if you do it once a month you should take 1-3 shareholders with you. If you do a leg from North Weald to Manston, that will be about 30 mins, so you just pay for the fuel on the leg that you fly.

With this method, you can cover a fair bit of distance and have a great day, but you split the fuel costs by four.

I don't even know if you plan on learning or not, but I thought I would put this in the forum for everyone to see!

Only since I could walk!

But you know, you buy a house, car, motorbike, guitars, another house etc, something always seemed higher on the priority list.

But now I have time on my hands, there are flying schools 3 miles from my house at Liverpool airport and well, it's about time i did something about it.

But here's a pic of me flying a Tiger Moth. It was only an hour's pleasure flight at Barton Aerodrome near Manchester, but I can say that I have flown a Tiger Moth!

This is a still from a low res DVD, so bad quality unfortunately. I'm the knobby looking one in the yellow hat.

Jack, I just stuck some pins into google earth to visualise your route a little better.

Quite a round trip all told! How long did it take, may I ask? Not including your beer break at Lydd?

I think it was about an hour to get there, and about an hour back I think.

Thanks for sharing Jack, I'm envious of your adventure.

I was surprised that your plane didn't de-spawn after landing at Lydd though.

    Nice one Jack

I don't envy that drive to Lincoln and then Norwich - I used to drive Grimsby to Coltishall and there wasn't a decent road along the way (don't tell me the A47 is any good!). Things improved when I used a bike, even when it was only a 125.

    Some really good pics there.

Wow great stuff Lucky. That's awesome.

Funny thing - I've been working in Canary Wharf day before yesterday I didn't see any a/c as I was too busy to find parking place in there and spend my day wandering indoors, but I bet you scared all the security lads shitless by flying over that place. :hpyclp: There is some insane security procedures and they have checked my car for explosives about 7 times. I am glad I had no Indian food with me that day.

Jeez and Lincoln - just been there today dude. What guitar? (link!) A47 was awful today as it always is between King's Lynn and Peterborough Herr-B, I didn't dare to drive as far as Norwich...

I'm the owner of both a Custom Shop Strat, and a Solid Body Les Paul, and this by far is the best sounding guitar I have ever played. Sadly it has been left in England and I have to wait for a month before I can go over and get it back again!

Yeah! He flew from Lydd back to North Weald. Since he had not flown a light aircraft for 10+ years, and he is used to putting the wheels on the tarmac at 30ft of the ground, not 3ft, the landing was on the solid side

Re: Today I flew over the entire CLoD map, IN REAL LIFE!

    Hey all,

Just a quick update, I have been in Ireland for the last week with no internet. I flew back yesterday over London with BMI, I was sitting on the wrong side to see all of the land marks, but I did manage to get some good shots in nevertheless which will be uploaded soon. We basically flew the opposite way over London than we did in the Cessna.

A quick bit of Publicity, BMI are the best airline I have flown on for a long while. Good service, and most of all GOOD LEG ROOM AND COMFY LEATHER SEATS THAT RECLINE. I'm used to doing ID-90s having a Pilot Dad (Standby Tickets for 10% of the Price and most of the time you don't get business or first :angry Virgin, have crappy cloth seats, horrible food, badly edited for no swear or nudity movies, terrible headphones, and literally 2 inches of leg room per passenger, and a seat that reclines 5cm at most. Ditto Emirates. Today's Long haul fliers are shocking.

Anyway, hope to fly with you all soon!

    Jack
