The quality of engineering for a mass produced engine in that DB is astounding. The original parts polishing alone must have taken many many man hours.
For lightness and fatigue strength, substitute a large mass of metal for a smaller, less adequate one with a fine quality of finish.
The poster who sees art in good engineering is a man after my own heart.
I like to call it kinetic art.
