    Wimperis MK.IX manual

    That thing is really complicated...

    The compass in base is to set wind drif (in CloD replicate pilot cockpit compass).

    Good pictures here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3015369079...173&rmvSB=true

    "The type D bomb sight compass .... The north filament is bent so as to form a cross wire at about one-third of its length away from the frame and is painted red;
    the south filament is painted black and the other two filaments are painted white."

    "(iii) Unlock the bearing plate and rotate it to set “red on red”, i.e., the red marked north point on the bearing plate vertically over the red compass filament. "

    The type D compass would seem to be missing from the compass container in the pictures.

    For a picture of the type D compass see here: http://physicsmuseum.uq.edu.au/bombsight-compass-d

    Re: Wimperis MK.IX manual

    My apologies for dragging this thread back out of the darkness!

    However, with the new offerings of the wonderful TFS on the horizon and their new abilities re source code we might one day have the MkIX Course Setting Bomb Sight working properly unless the implementation of the MkXIV Bomb Sight returns it back to the shadows and consigns it to a time long ago!!

    Anyhow for those new to ATAG and interested in history the link in 1lokos' thread still works, ie http://canadianflight.org/files/bombsight1.pdf
    This is the historical manual and mainly details use for high altitude bombing but also includes a paragraph concerning bombing below 3000ft with the aid of various bombing charts.

    At the end of last week I managed to 'aquire' from Ebay an original copy of 'Aircrew Training Bulletin No.12' of August 1943 and within its pages I discovered the prescribed manner for using the MkIX CSBS for bombing below 3000ft without recourse to charts and tables. I have no idea if any part of this can be used in ClOD but I present it here for historical interest.

    Remember that currently in Clod your best advice for bombing with the Blennie is by Chuck_Owl and can be found here: https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...ead.php?t=9629

    and should you, at any time, require a True Airspeed Calculator, you can find one here: http://www.csgnetwork.com/tasinfocalc.html
