    Raiders

    .
    RAIDERS V2.2

    ALLIED:

    1100 hrs

    Winds from the W @ 4 knots.

4 days ago the allies launched a large raid on the coastal French city of Boulogne with the sole intent of causing the German forces in the region to focus their attention and resources into that area, thus distracting them from allied efforts elsewhere in the ETO. So far we have been sucessful in doing just that, so the fight continues. The RAF and it's allies have been extremely busy supporting this effort and continues to fly sorties both in aid of the ground forces, and against strategic targets and Luftwaffe airbases in the area.

The Luftwaffe has not seemed to be affected enough to cease their attacks on England, and therefore still continue to attack our coastal airbases, as well as inland rail and factory targets. Our re-supply ships due west of Boulogne have also been victim of constant attack and harassment, and have asked for increased fighter protection.

    Fighter Command orders:

-Escort, patrol, protect Bridges in Boulogne, protect an artillery firebase east of Boulogne, protect the ships west of Boulogne.
-Our airfeilds at Lympne, Littlestone, and Hawkinge are under threat! Hawkinge and Littlestone are homebase to all of our spit IIa equipped squadrons.
-A railyard in Faversham, Maidstone Factory, Tenterdam Communications Relay, and an Artillery factory near Battle must be protected!
-Trains may be spotted leaving St. Omer and Estree areas. If you see them, attack them!

    Bomber Command targets/values:

Bourbourg Fuel Distribution Facility.jpg =10= BD 21.6 Bourbourg Fuel distribution Facility (by rail)
St Omer Munitions Factory.jpg =10= BE 19.5 St. Omer Munitions Factory
Samer Rail station.jpg =10= BA 18.3 Samer Railyard
Estree Infantry Dispersal Camp.jpg =10= BA 16.6 Estree infantry dispersal camp
Hesdin Rail Station.jpg =10= BC 15.9 Hesdin Railyard
Fruges Communication HQ.jpg =10= BD 16.2 Fruges Communication HQ

Destroy Luftwaffe Airfeilds nearest the front: (We believe that Campaign Les Guines is home to the 109 Jabo's and the 109 E-4N variants, the others having E-4 variants)

Marquise West LW Airfield.jpg =10= LW Marquise West
Campagine Les Guines LW Airfield.jpg =10= LW Campagne Les Guines
Desvre LW Airfield.jpg =10= LW Desvres

    80 = victory

    batfeild UK.jpg
Grounded? Volunteer for the Army! Tank drivers and gunners are needed for the fight south of Boulogne. Stop any German armour you encounter. The army has Tiger Moths available at the airfeild near Boulogne, if anyone is brave enough to fly them!

    AXIS:

    1100 hrs

    Winds from the W @ 2 m/s.

4 Days ago England and her allies launched a raid into the city of Boulogne. Our ground forces have the city surrounded and the enemy shall soon suffer a total collapse. The Luftwaffe is supporting this effort, and plays a key role in throwing these "raiders' back to the sea. Aside from our regular duties with the bombing campaign against England, we will assist our army by taking out key bridges and artillery locations, as well as destroying the enemy re-supply ships in the channel.

    JG. orders:

-Escort, patrol, and protect our troop staging area near Estree, and the railyards in Samer and Hesdin.
-Valuable fuel distribution and a munitions factory in the northern sectors must also be patrolled, as well as the Fruges communication HQ.
-Our frontline airfeilds are under threat! Cover them carefully, especially Campagne Les Guines, which is homebase to our E-1 Jabos and the 109 E-4N!
-Our troop trains may need air cover when called upon. One travelling from St Omer west to Samer, another travelling from Estree, to the coast, then north to Boulogne.

    Bombing orders/values:

    5 Ships.jpg =25= 5 Enemy supply/troop ships inbound west of Boulogne
    bridges.jpg =10= 2 Bridges in Boulogne centre (1 rail, 1 regular)
artillery.jpg =10= BA 19.1 Enemy artillery base east of Boulogne
    Faversham Railyard.jpg =10= AU 25.6 Faversham Railyard
Battle factory.jpg =10= AS 21.1 Battle Artillery Factory
    Maidstone.jpg =10= AS 24.1 Maidstone Factory
Tenterden Communication Relay.jpg =10= AT 22.2 Tenterdam Communications Relay

Destroy the following RAF Airfeilds: (We believe Hawkinge and Littlestone are home to Spitfire IIa squadrons)
    Little Lympne Hawk.jpg
    =10= RAF Hawkinge
    =10= RAF Lympne
    =10= RAF Littlestone

    95 = victory

NDBs added for LW Bombers. See in-game briefing for details.

    batfeild DE.jpg
Grounded? Volunteer for the Army! Tank drivers and gunners are needed for the fight south of Boulogne. Fight your way in and destroy any artillery positions and even bridges (if you make it that far...)

-all photos face north unless otherwise specified in the pic

AS ALWAYS, please post bugs/inquiries/complaints/suggestions/etc/etc/etc so I can fix stuff if need be...

    2.1 in the works,

Ya, I was flying a Sukoi with Gringo and Catcracker. They have anti-matter/shotgun blasters, just like in the Battle of Britain.

Sounds like a blast! That's the beauty of mission building, one little error and all hell breaks loose. I wish I could've been there! haha

    Hello,
Thanks for very challenging map. It seems like wind socket (at least at East Church) is pointing opposite direction than actual wind.

    Re: Raiders

I lost three planes today because of bad spawn points in this map. (Desvres)
In first one I spawned in a flower field. While taxiing my left tires sunk into ground.
In last two, I spawned on a hillside. My plane started to slip back, me and some other pour souls were desperatly trying to climb to top of hill but we failed.
Other fields? Popular(fighters) fields were destroyed in a half, may be one hour, because they are very close each others.
I really appreciate to mapmakers efforts. Please consider it as a positive criticism.

    Re: Raiders

    Raiders V2.3

    Changelog

    -now it's fall
-non-airfield targets "strength" reduced, and more points awarded for bases. This makes the map a bit easier to flip.
-Italian planes available only at CAI Berk

After looking at spawns at various airfields, it occurs to me that the default spawns would leave players at all ends of the field, and so aside from adding more spawnpoints there is not much I can do better. My suggestion for those who spawn in a bad area is to leave the plane and respawn elsewhere, or wait a while. Not the best, I know, but perhaps a future version will be re-done to use the defaults, when I have time for it. Sorry for the inconveniences this may cause.

As for the windsock, I have no idea why it does that. Nothing I can do for it, they should automatically follow the wind, AFAIK.

As always, read the brief and look for V2.3 in the header, to know if it's on.

    Re: Raiders

Should it be possible to reduce drastically the number of static aircraft because they have a huge FPS impact ( about 10 FPS like the shadows ) on low\mid end computers.
The gameplay of this map is simply marvelous and is one of the most fun but soon as I get close to an airfield ( friendly or enemy ) heavy slowdowns starts due to the huge number of static aircraft on the airfields and when there are also a lot burning fires of crashed planes the combination of this two things renders almost unplayable this map in certain areas.
Sorry to raise this but not everyone has a NASA computer available...

ps: do not add smoke columns if possible cause they are other FPS killers!

    Thanks in advance S!

Hi Rudi, I didn't realize this map had a bad effect on FPS due to the statics, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll make some reductions for the next version. Thankyou!

Yes its a nice map all round if only the blenheim had the 3rd option below ! somehow don't see the Wellington getting down and dirty like the blenny can.

Wiki ref. 1200 lb (540 kg)
    4 × 250 lb (113 kg) bombs or
    "2 × 500 lb (227 kg) bombs internally and 8× 40 lb (18 kg) bombs externally"

    From the briefing:

    Code:
=25= 5 Enemy supply/troop ships inbound west of Boulogne
=10= 2 Bridges in Boulogne centre (1 rail, 1 regular)
=10= BA 19.1 Enemy artillery base east of Boulogne
       =10= AU 25.6 Faversham Railyard
=10= AS 21.1 Battle Artillery Factory
       =10= AS 24.1 Maidstone Factory
=10= AT 22.8 Tenterdam Communications Relay

Destroy the following RAF Airfeilds: (We believe Hawkinge and Littlestone are home to Spitfire IIa squadrons)

       =15= RAF Hawkinge
       =15= RAF Lympne
       =15= RAF Littlestone

       95 = victory
Are there other invincible targets stopping blue from winning?

    Re: Raiders

Unsinkable ships occur in every map due to the water bug issue. If you see smoke coming from the ship's stack then chances are you should be good to sink them but it's Clod and certain areas of the water act like solid ground, preventing ships from sinking.

This is why you don't have to sink all the ships and gives you options.

I didn't know that thing about the smoke stacks! @ Cassius - I'll try to move the ships a bit north or south to see if it helps, but it'll be a long time till I'm able to get back into the FMB to update missions.. thanks for bringing this to my attention though. ~S~

    version 'd' changes

    -ships moved a bit north
-minensuchboots X2 will attack them (eventually) from the NE (coast of wissant heading SW)
-minensuchboots are a valid target for the allied side
-some flak added here and there
    -briefing updated

PS. Ships also moved for mission "booty and agent" due to report of one unsinkable, and some flak added here and there

    Hey Freya,

Just been flying Raiders and noticed a lot of players leaving from about 45 mins to go due to increasing darkness. Some enjoyed the challenge but it seems many didnt and left. Might be worth reviewing the time/darkness next time u are looking at this mission in the FMB to see what u think.

    Thanks as always

It does get very dark at the end! It's different to other maps which is a good thing I feel. Definitely a challenge spotting anything even with tab 7-1. Agree that numbers drop as darkness comes, maybe pull the start time back 45 so the end is the glorious sunset rather than full darkness?

    Re: Raiders

It was certainly different flying this the other night when night fell.

I thought what a change to flying in bright 'Battle of Britain' sunshine. Certainly a challenge but nice to evade a couple of 109s in the dark.

The real challenge of course is finding an airfield at the end of a sortie and then picking out the runway without a 'Flarepath' as a reference. I managed to land......just, but it was very dark.

I think it adds a bit more realism to the map and should remain as it is. Cliffs is a simulator after all.

    I was on with Ezzie.
