Someone told me about ATAG_Colander's weird and ever changing forum profile pictures so I had to check it out! After verifying his picture changing hi-jinks I decided also to check out the game.

Other I suppose, remembered seeing it through Steam long ago, finally got around to getting it and then playing it... well no one runs a vanilla server so, if you want to play you have to go searching for the patch that is being run

Re: How Did You Find CLOD?

I searched Google for 'WWII flight sims". CloD had all my favourite planes, and was only $20CAN, so I gave it a try despite the negative reviews I read about it.

The game didn't run very well until I went online and joined a populated ATAG server. People on TS were very helpful, especially ATAG_StormBat, who took the time to help me 'tweek' my computer settings. We used the ATAG site to help figure out my computer's issues. The site lead me to read about Team Fusion. The first patch improved my FPS dramatically, and then I really felt the bug.

    Simplified.

    Google--->WWII flight sims--->CloD

    CloD + TF =

Re: How Did You Find CLOD?

I think to be honest Lew, there should be one more option?
Been here since the original was released and watched development of CloD since it was announced.

That's how I heard about it, followed it, criticised the he'll out of it, gave many forum posts at 1C pointing out the deficiencies, stamped and wailed when they said the only way it would be fixed is if we bought BoM that would include bug fixes and a new theatre. Fought many battles with the fan boys who claimed those who complained were idiots, claimed it would all come good in the end, claimed that we just had to give them time and they were the ones who claimed it was the fault of the none-believers when it all went tits up.

One thing I will never understand is the lack of listening from large teams when the core of their target community explain exactly what is needed to make the Sim the product that will be a market winner.....yet ignore it and blunder on into oblivion. No idea why.

I am sure someone will now mention that the community thinks TF should do x, y and z but we haven't taken any money, we don't make a wage, we just do our work for fun. Thing is when people do take your money, then you have a right of expectation that it will be fixed, completed and the product that was advertised, sadly CloD before TF never reached that potential and most of it was down to bad decisions long after Oleg walked out.

So in a nutshell, I found CloD through following the original.

    Cheers, MP

Re: How Did You Find CLOD?

    Hey, great idea.

    It's hard to pick.

    The sequence was:
    • googled "best WWII air combat flight sim" (coming off 20+ year hiatus from what used to be "the best")
    • ignored what I knew was nonsense
    • ATAG website-->venus fly trap of YouTube videos

So, how does one vote there?

I voted "Read about it online", but really ....once I hit the mine on YouTube I was hooked. I hadn't even downloaded the patches yet.

People don't make such videos for no reason (my thoughts while watching about 9000 of them).

Then, once you see the ATAG website again...you just know. You set your signature to, "how can I help." :-)
    Long Live Team Fusion.
    Long Live ATAG.

Re: How Did You Find CLOD?

All started back in 1999 when after taking a break from flying RED BARON 3D, EUROPEAN AIR WAR and ACES HIGH, I was browsing the internet for new Flight Sims, and ran across a post about an obscure Russian game in development by some guy called "Oleg Maddox" which only had a single flyable... the IL-2.

After that, never took my eyes off any project or idea Oleg came up with.

    I vote (youtube)

only youtube is the best advertising.

I you want more players (pilots) in Cliffs of Dover, make more youtube videos

if you want, more new pilots ( new generation) make youtube videos

If you play flight sim 5 or 10 years, you are virtual veteran pilot.

veteran pilot sure know about (Cliffs of Dover)

maybe they play (cliffs of Dover), maybe not...

I am new pilot, only 3 years. Cliffs of Dover is my first sim.

My first post at this forum was (I Like this forum... I will stay)

    Hi Lewis,

2 years ago when I saw this video on Youtube it was the very first time I ever saw anything related with ClOD and ATAG.

(...maybe there are some of you guys participating in that video...)

    I got instantly hooked.
It followed by gazillion others and every time I got the same feeling in the end:To participate ClOD a.s.a.p. or at least watch one more video on Youtube until the time I was able to participate this sim.Of course I didn't know about this magnificently wonderful community back then...Now that I'm part of it I get the feeling I just waited too long to built a rig capable to run ClOD as it should.

On 3 Commando Brigade Arma 3 group forum some members mentioned CLOD so I further researched using Google and YouTube and found ATAG that way.

    Salute, Lewis!

    Change my vote to this!

But I also didn't try it until I heard TF had fixed the original release. I came along somewhere around version 3.

Re: How Did You Find CLOD?

I heard about CLOD from other forums related to IL2, that I visit frequently, most notably the Skies of Fire forum. I purposely waited a long while to finally get CLOD because of all the problems with the game on release, but I also kept myself informed of the game's progress through various forums, websites and video channels.

When I read that the game had enough patches to be a proper successor to IL2, that's when I decided to go for it.

And after installing I found out that there were some "problems"with Clod and I searched the internet for solutions and found the Atag-forum, TF-patches and the need of spending some money to make my pc run the game in high(est) settings.

    How Did You Find CLOD?

Got CloD on release then after getting bored looking at a frozen splash screen I put it on ice. In fact I uninstalled it.

Then I saw the vid 'Trouble In France' from no.64 Bounder and decided to reinstall and patch up. Not played 1946 since.

Had 1946 and was looking forward to CloD.

Just a small request, if you do recall whose video's got you interested, be sure to mention who it was. I'm sure they would appreciate knowing their videos got someone interested in the game.
