    Yep.

I've been following this... and saving up....

looks like the cream of the crop....

or at least as far as my system can handle...

anything more and it would be a whole new system. Most parts of which haven't been designed yet...

    I'm excited about the Reverb.

Hard to say that this is the new standard, especially with the promise of the Valve Index, though the specs of that are TBC. My hunch is that the new standard will (eventually) be foveated rendering. Should give higher resolution where needed and be kinder to systems than trying to push overall high-res displays.

Re: Review of Occulus Rift Consumer Version

I'm a relative simpleton with this modern stuff.

My current plan is to get what works best with the system I have now in real life.

and then one day (fingers crossed) when the future happens... I will buy into that too. So far I have just about been able to. (yey !)

For today though... looks as though my current day "high end future rig" can just about power a Reverb...

So I will probably go with that for now

There is also a new HMD being released by Steam in May I believe - similar specs to the Reverb I read somewhere or other….

I had put off getting head tracking for a long time and was about to take the plunge. Now, this thread has piqued my interest in VR and now I have a dilemma. Do I opt for VR or a head tracking device? Should it even be a choice between one or the other?

There's also the Oculus S just been announced. Not going to be as high Res as some of the sets mentioned, but the price looks the same as the CV1. Lots of exciting new kit on the horizon!

I've just sold my CV1 while the prices are still reasonable!

Thats a really hard thing to advise on.

VR is epic in some stuff... (car racing is incredible!)

I don't miss it in Cliffs enough for it to be a problem...

Cliffs has eye candy that current VR does not do justice to...

    but.....

DCS in VR ... wow !...

    BoX in VR... wow !!

I cannot play Project cars 2 in anything other than VR

    but Cliffs?....

man.. I want VR in this... but... its soo damn good as it is with Track IR...

I don't actually notice anything lacking when I'm flying with my buddies in 2D.

I guess that's also a type of VR...

Flying with your pals from across the world !

    Defintley !

depends what you play though i guess

I'm on VR for some stuff... 2d for other stuff

if you have a VR capable system it's certainly a hell of a ride.

Maybe eye tracking won't be used this year but it is difficult run such high resolutions. NVidia has a new support for fixed foveated rendering that is very promising but it will need to run on the driver's side for wide use.

Re: Review of Occulus Rift Consumer Version

I recently treated myself to an RTX2070. I was pondering 4K screens and had one lined up when I realised ebay rifts were less than half the price of a new screen.

    Soooooo......................

Got it up and running a couple of days ago so I'm still in the shock and awe phase. I'd recommend one to anyone with a system to run it. Everything said about the downsides of these current generation of headsets seems to be true.

    And none of it matters

DCS and BoX in VR; oh my goodness!!!

    Everything comes alive.

If you can only afford or justify one, get a regular head tracking setup. There will be a lot more games you find that you can use it with compared to VR, most notably Cliffs!

Re: Review of Occulus Rift Consumer Version

Is it likely that the new CLOD v 5 will be VR capable?

I got the impression some time ago that this wasn't a priority for TF, but things are coming on so well and so fast with VR that CLOD now risks being uncompetitive with other sims out there (especially BOS etc).

Really hope that VR capability for CLOD v 5 is now a priority. Any TF bods able to update us on this please?

Hey Sconsey, if you haven't got head tracking and you play cliffs I would strongly recommend that you go for that before thinking about VR.

Most of the folks here use Track IR as you are no doubt aware, but it is very expensive, and there are much cheaper alternatives around that do the job.

I used Ed Tracker to start with, and I still have it for when there is too much light which can effect other trackers including Track IR.

Check out this review of Ed Tracker on the forum.
    https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...ht=headtracker

Currently I am using this DIY set up using a modified ps3 eye and a clip bought off a chap that sells them on ebay, which works very well, and again a lot cheaper than Track IR.
    https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...ht=headtracker

As for VR, I tried it for the first time with Highseas, Vamps, Marlow and Lewis at Duxford last year, and it was pretty impressive I have to say, flying a p51 Mustang on DCS, but the graphics were nowhere near as good as cliffs, and as I only play cliffs, which currently doesn't support VR I won't be getting VR yet

If your main thing is CLoD Sconsey then I would say head tracking and if you can afford a VR unit you can afford TrackIR 5 .
