    MS Sidewinder trouble-shooting guide

    Hi

Ive done a quick guide to troubleshooting the MS Sidewinder. This guide contains fixes for the loss of FFB when pulling turns, firing mgs, dropping bombs and when the AI fires a defensive weapon. Also includes interalanomalmy's 109 cannon fix. Should work for all aircraft but has been tested on the hurri, spit, blenni, 109, ju87 and 110 (i cant fly the 111, BR20 or 88).

May be useful for red players who currently dont have the mg/cannon bug that blue players have (but may do come TF5.0)

Its posted in the downloads section as a zip file here

UPDATE - have now logged about 100 hours in the JU88 and can confirm that any FFB issues are the least of your worries!!

Not sure why you are having problems downloading. I think its a guide to solving problems.

Quite a few of us with MSFF sidewinders use the stick as if it was purely a centre spring stick and no FFB effects (but much better than a conventional spring type stick due to using motors).

Do you want all the various feedback effects?

    Re: MS Sidewinder trouble-shooting guide

    Hi Coobs

The download link should work fine - ive just tried it.

I wrote the guide. In the main its a small list of routines to do in order to get the stick to engage properly if you find it acting oddly in the game. I wrote it when i switched to 109s and the MG disengaged the FFB. The same fixes also work for resolving issues when AI rear gunners fire and you drop ordinance.

FFB in the game was badly implemented originally and a fix was never found. Atb-tabbing in and out of the game can cause issues and sometimes its just wrong to start with.

Now that TF are likely to be able to use the source code it will of course be fixed in minutes although i think they have undertaken to solve world poverty and end all wars first..........Im of course being fly in the face of the huge anticipation placed in recent developments but it is possible that certain improvements to the FFB MAY come along in time to negate the need for any guide.

There is a file that lessens the force of the judder for 109 cannons as some players find it too much but its not a fix per se. I does seem to help a little.

As Evangelus says a lot just use the spring file but i prefer to have the shake as well because it helps me with judging when an aircraft is approaching a stall.

I wish you the best of luck.

    Regards

Can confirm this happens with the Logitech G940 as well, with latest firmware and user-corrected wiring (and with crosswind pedals instead of G940 ones).

    Re: MS Sidewinder trouble-shooting guide

Thanks for the file! (Sorry I'm late to the party).
For some reason, the 109 mg fix works even when I just paste only the new machine gun FF file. I looked at it with the FFB editor software but I don't see much change. There's still a small gap between firing and regaining FFB but it's waaay shorter, so for now I'm happy with it.

Once again, thanks for the file!

    Cheers!

    Re: MS Sidewinder trouble-shooting guide

I wonder if any change has been done with ".ffe" files use since the patch 5.003.
It seems that the "shake.ffe" file is now use for the 109 E and Hurri IIc cannon in conjunction with the "autocannon.ffe" file...
It seems to me that this wasn't the case before.
This "shake.ffe" effect is also use for shaking the joystick when aircrafts are close to stall.
The problem is that this "shake.ffe" effect is too much hard for cannon and when i decrease the effect's amplitude (with fedit) to an appropriate level then the stall effect is too weak and we can't feel it anymore...
Could the cannon only use "autocannon.ffe" file as it was before ?
