Hi, new to ClOD, but old enough to have all good old Il-2 CDs.
I AM A ROBOT....?
No wait...I am NOT/
Here is my token 1 post.
@ben93, @Jupe, @Puffy, @sniperton, @Darrylx444 & fluffytuff.
Welcome to the ATAG forum and the community........even if you are a robot!!!!!
Everyone is welcome here and the only thing asked of you is to have some fun.
Why not be daring and jump online and find the action on the ATAG main sever (Allies v Axis)? The thing you will notice is how friendly and helpful everybody is. Which is the way we like it.
So welcome to the party and this amazing sim called Cliffs of Dover.

posting to download single missions - thank you
Hello
That works!
Welcome to the forum. As you may have guessed, the "one post" procedure affirms that you're actually a real person and not an internet 'bot. Let us know if you need any assistance or additional info on anything to do with Cliffs of Dover. Most of all, don't be a stranger!
Cheers,

Welcome guys to the ATAG forum and this wonderful CloD community.
As ATAG_Snapper has said "...don't be a stranger". If you feel like some MP action then come and join us on the ATAG main server, Axis v Allies. New pilots are always welcome no matter what skill level they are at.

Just making a newbie thread.
Fantastic work!!!
Hello guys!
I am a total newbie to this forum but have ejoyed the entire IL2 series since it came out ending with 1946. I am just now getting in on with COD (I know very late but life was crazy for a few years) Want to run settings on full tilt. The "getting started" page here in ATAG recommend i7 Quad Core 4.0 Ghz and GTX 980 6Gb or higher and 16Gb DDR3 Ram Says do not go with over 4 core processor.
I see some of you guys are running meaner rigs than this even. Soooo... to run full detail without breaking the bank any tips.. ??
THANKS!
Hello Hertsig
First up this is for Clod as it stands and is based on my own experience of taking the current version (4.312) from an old E8500 with a 750TI through to what I have now (I5 6600K and a GTX 1060) at 1080P. I'm sure others will have differing opinions and experiences.
A lot of people here also play other games and sims and have big resolution set ups. For clod at 1080P the recommended specs are more than enough. If you intend to play something like DCS however, you will need more (for the current alpha DSC 2.1 MUCH more) .
What components you choose is for Clod alone may also be different than what components you choose to play other games also or other things that you do with you PC (video editing etc). The resolution you intend to play at will also play a big part.
But as far as Clod is concerned...
The recommended specs will let you play Clod at 1080P (1920 x 1080) with maximum settings selected in the stuff that matters currently. If you intend to play at higher resolutions then higher end video cards like the Nvidia GTX1070s will benefit you more and the 1080s and 1080TIs seem to be where its at for 4K gaming. The min specs recommended are also good although you may have to reduce the level of forests and building detail but, if you are on budget, you will hardly notice the difference one you are playing.
If you are sticking to 1080P and don't intend running multiple monitors you could even get away with a GTX750TI (although the 1050 makes more sense now) but its on the limit. Here you may have to reduce the levels of forests and buildings a little more again but by any stretch of the imagination bad..
ATI cards have, in the past had issues with both clod and Battle of Stalingrad. I don't know if this has now been sorted.
AMDs new Ryzen processors seem to be getting good reviews and their greater multicore capabilities may be more useful than an I5s if you are rendering video as part of your routine PC use. There may still be some issues with their mother board bios but this is being sorted. For pure gameplay however, the Intel processors overclock higher and in flight sims, higher clocks seem to be preferred. This said, if you are running an average joe rig like me, its all theoretical. At 1080P I don't have to push my I5 6600K in clod and could happily run it without the overclock. With this in mind a decent spec Ryzen 1600X would still be in its comfort zone.
Nothing less than a I5 or Ryzen 1600 in the "New" market though. The unlocked versions are more expensive but give you options down the line.
There is talk in the "expert" sites of Intel price drops this year but TBH, there is always talk of price drops and lower costing new gen stuff and it hardly ever transpires.....
RAM wise, in Clod's current form 8GB is more than enough at 1080P. Given the price of DDR4 memory at the moment, if you had a DDR4 Motherboard, this could save you 60 or 70 quid. If you motherboard uses dual channel memory slots (most do, very few use quad channel), then the generally accepted logic is to buy the largest RAM you can afford in dual channel sets and populate the A2 and B2 slots (usually) with them. Buying further RAM sticks later (of the same spec of course) and adding then may run some risk of adversely affecting memory performance and stability on an overclocked system although I have never found this on my slight overclocks.
A good SSD will make everything work faster. If nothing else put your operating system on it (and perhaps Clod). a Good HDD will be ok for all the landfill that people fill up their Pc's with like photos etc.
FINALLY - if you are buying new stuff, please consider your PSU. If its old and out of warranty or some generic pile of crap you are really risking all that new stuff. I upgraded at Christmas and left my old PSU in. It blew taking the new RAM, the new mobo and the new GPU with it. Whilst I got it all replaced though RMA it was a real faff and a 1 month wait. Not good.

Ex 'Fighter Ace' and 'Air Attack' virtual pilot signing in.
Played pretty much every PC-based flight sim ever released at least once (lol). Bought the original boxed-version of CloD only to have it sit on a shelf for the last 6-7 years due to time restrictions and the somewhat steep learning curve. The TF mod (and it's now 'official' status) are what have resurrected my interest. Still flying mainly offline while I develop my p-poor skills. Learning the game, plus my joystick setups (FFB2 / G940) and TrackIR5 (which has sat on my monitor practically unused for 10 years, as well).
Based in the UK. So if there's any UK pilots who would like to get in touch, feel free to PM me. My active hours do vary though due to working shifts and other commitments.

Welcome to ATAG and Cliffs of Dover!
You might check out the beginner guide from Lewis, but you better join the ATAG Teamspeak, lots of your Landmates there!
TeamSpeak is the best way to learn quick and everyone is nice there.
If you don't have a mic, it's still good to listen, you can also type in ingame chat and listen us.
See you in the skies!

Just downloaded CoD today. Looks like the best sim I've played in years, although my last was Rise of Flight and I was awful. But I did buy a TrackIR to go along with a new Logitech Extreme 3D Pro so I'm much better off with decent hardware. Looking forward to learning and playing....cheers!

A beautiful day from the cockpit of a Spitfire.
Getting back in to flight sims after 10+ years away from it. Can't wait to be up and running.
No robot here but a new bee trying to fly
Back on board with Cliffs of Dover after playing the original IL2.LOTS to re-learn!
Welcome all.
Great to see some of you on line.
Make sure you get onto Teamspeak, makes the experiance, and survivability so much enjoyable.
Sing out if you need any help.
