    Disappearing AI-Bombers

    Hi All,

the addition of AI-bombers on the servers is appreciated very much, especially since we use to fly early Sunday mornings, when things tend to be a little quiet.

Although I am not flying for the stats, I sometimes wondered a bit about kill credits. It happened rather frequently that I shot at four or five different bombers that went down and did not continue their raid but I was credited with just one kill, or sometimes non at all. In the de-briefing screen in contrast all of the bombers I damaged turned up, often listing substantial damage.
I tended to explain this to myself, that they somehow managed to make it home or stayed airborne until the mission ended or something like that.

Yesterday morning I was together with Artist and no one els on the server. We treated us with an order of Dorniers to attack Rochefort. Found them, attacked them etc. But this time each of us followed one of our victims as they spiralled down. And whoooops ... each of them just disappeared in mid air, resulting in no kill message from the server.

    Anybody else noticed something similar?

    Hi DerDa.

I am with you there mate.

This has happened to me regularly for some time. Not long ago I attacked nine DO 215s en-route to Southend and followed three down one of which was on fire the other two venting from both engines (oil & water). All three just disappeared before crashing. No kills recorded but when the damage screen came up I had significantly damaged eight out of the nine aircraft. The same thing with some DO 17s a few days later!

I don't know if this what is now supposed to happen as I have not seen this happen until recent weeks. Like you it is more about enjoying the sim rather than stats but not being 'ace' material it is nice to get the odd kill on the main server now and then.

Let us see if anybody else has encountered this!

    Yep !

Been with Marlow when its happened, with Vamps also, had it myself too.

Planes disappearing right in front of your eyes I always thought would be limited to "cheaty rotters" pulling their internet connection... (not that i have ever witnessed anyone pulling such a lame stunt on our servers)

But AI ? They should stay around die with their boots on.

    EDIT:

also... I STILL have never seen the welcome screen or the damage screen.

It's know my IP address... It should turn up some day so I can kick it's arse with my boots on.

    Re: Disappearing AI-Bombers

Firstly im not gonna make any references to yous lot bullying the spotty skinny kid in glasses.......

The bombers despawn fast when hit. Its always been this way. When i asked i was told the AI is only there to attract trouble..something to escort, something to attack = furball.

So - why do they despawn so quickly?.....my guess......ATAG has a stats page. Whether stats are important to you or not they are to some.

Now - if you aint bothered about stats just knowing the bomber you hit was seen crashing in flames should be enough. If, on the other hand, stats are important to you them there is less chance of the stats being skewed by huge AI killers.

And, lets face it DO17s are hardly a huge risk to you. With a glass jaw like Frank Bruno, an average spitty pilot should be able to sufficient damage to at least 6 of the 9 to send them to earth every time.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GERMANS i hear you cry...its quite usual to see a lot of wellingtons going down with a credit. So it goes. one of them things - planes with no wings do tend to fall out of the sky quicker i guess. But here at least is some risk here. And if you doubt me, get in a 109 and go find one (or 9, each with 4 rearward firing 303s all looking at you)

    Regards

Do 17, He 111, Ju 88 or 87 doesn't matter. It happenes with all of them.
And as far as I am concerned AI kills would not have to appear at all in the stats.

But I think I deserve some 'BOOOM', explosion, fire, mayhem ...
