    Tooling around in FlightGear

So I've recently discovered that FlightGear is a thing. For those of you still none the wiser, it's a free, open-source flight simulator that has seemingly been going for years. Aesthetically it's a little crude but I'm not sure that eye candy is it's raison d'etre. The real appeal is that you can fly almost anywhere in the world, though unless you live in San Francisco, don't expect the scenery to look brilliant. It is definitely representative rather than accurate, but A and B roads and even rivers seem to be plotted pretty accurately. For me it looks just about right if I squint a bit, find a landmark and then squint some more.

So, what was the highlight of my night? Taking off from RAF Waddington in a Bf 109-G14, circling Lincoln and then flying cross-country by following roads and landing at RAF Coningsby.

I had a go with Flightgear a couple of years ago but it didn't like my graphics setup - couldn't get more than 4 fps out of it...
