$60 for a map, plus the planes. Ridiculous.

I think the mistake they did is to separate the map and the unit bundle. I think it would have been better to sell as a whole even if they have to charge 10$ more then the previous map, I am of course speaking as a WW2 fan, for the folks that have no interest in the WW2 units and only want to fly the map with modern planes will disagree with me. Is it a mistake or they try to please everyone, I don't know.
One thing I know is that quality have a price, does the price is right? We'll all know by May.
Don't forget ED doing sales every month, 60$ this is the full price on release, most won't pay that price.

Hmm...
I don't really know enough about DCS to make an educated decision here.
It looks incredible.
I own BOS, and I never play it. Partly because I'm not that fussed about the eastern front, and partly because i dunno... just never grabbed me anyway.

Mmmmmmmm, why did you buy BOS then Highseas ?
Best regards,

I can't speak for Highseas, but I bought the BOS+BOM package a Christmas as a show of support to Jason Williams, 1C, and TFS for the fantastic stuff they're working on for Cliffs of Dover. Haven't had much chance to get at it yet, other than installing and verifying that it works fine on my PC. Got a bit distracted by the DCS Spitfire IX release , not to mention the ongoing ATAG Server online activity. But it's great to have the option of firing up another WW2 sim when the time allows.

If they don't/can't make it financially viable, it'll get tanked. That's my worry. Plus they inherited a bit of a mess with that whole kickstarter thing. 60$ ? Sales? I'm ok with that, because of this:
And I want to see that B-17 and escort it or shoot at it real bad. And maybe keep dreaming they'll make it flyable someday..pound per hour engaged its still insanely good value if you like the DSC thang
I don't know who those guys are you mentioned sorry Snapper, except 1C.
I enjoy all WW2 theatres, so when i have some spare bread. Might be worth me getting BOS & BOM.
Nice to have some variety. I keep trying to get into 1946 with the BAT mod.
But the graphics are a bit off putting.
Best regards,
Mike.
No worries!
This thread will explain it all. Something we hadn't dared even to hope for over the past 3 - 4 years is becoming a reality.

DCS is more of an arcade sim correct?
It's best to get their content on sale. I've seen most of the aircraft on sale for around 10-15$ I purchased the A10C for 10$ and the Ka50 for around 5$, however they are both in the shop for 40$ currently...
They also have a 'bonus' program where you can get some money off of the next product you purchase.
I agree though. I wish new maps were not priced so high.

I think it's a gift as well.
It's in my selfish best interest to see all those people flock to this game. More to shoot at and have a laugh with in TS.
Patiently waiting for TF 4.5. I'm looking forward to that hold over for full 5 release.
The DCS devs always know how to get the community fired up.
I think $60 would probably be worth it, but I don't have to pay for it anyways as I'm a backer of the Kickstarter that seems so long ago now.
If I wasn't a backer, though, I could see myself having a hard time justifying this purchase.
DCS looks SO good though, and the Spitfire is hella fun to fly.

I got a heck of a deal. I pledged in only $20, and got the Spitfire and the map!
I think people aren't complaining about the price, they're complaining that Eagle Dynamics is setting a precedent for futre "asset packs", etc, which could really split the community as not everyone would buy the assets. Imagine if there was a "aircraft carrier" pack, and you wanted to fly a land based bomber on that server but you couldn't join it just because a Carrier was there on the map... People don't want that to happen.

" Better a thorn on the outside than a prick on the inside"
EXACTLY the point I was making. You pay for the map - fair enough, a lot of work has gone into it, but you would expect it to be playable... oh no, you have to buy the ground vehicles and AI planes pack, then your preferred aircraft and hope to god the multiplayer server you find with a reasonable population has not got some DLC you missed.
So split points in multiplayer. Red = present
Caucasus
Nevada
Caucasus + specified aircraft
Nevada + specified aircraft
Normandy stand alone.
Normandy + Add on pack.
Normandy + Specified aircraft
Normandy plus specified aircraft + add on pack
All vying for a limited multiplayer community.

Actually more the opposite. Full start up procedures and challenging flight models. That being said the Damage models needs a lot of work and there are important things missing like setting custom convergence on wing mounted guns.
I was a kickstarter backer as well and I have gotten more than my money's worth so I am a Eagle Dynamics/DCS fan for life now. I am glad that TF announced that they were going to move COD to DX 11, the Eagle dynamics guys did this last year and the difference in performance is sharp, DX 11 works really well, and the NTTR map is something to behold. I have no doubt that the Normandy map will be equally impressive and the COD channel map, even for how good it looks now will look even better in DX 11!

Choice is good. If I have a group of people together who want to fly F5-E on the Normandy map, then that's all they have to buy. Or would it be preferably to just price the whole shebang at $300 and force everyone to get that? That limited player community is pretty much linked directly with the limited resources now available to develop complex flight simulation software.
DCS World is also free base software. You've got the option to pay $0 and fly the civilian P-51 or that other aircraft included to see if the software is right for you. Right away there's the possibility that people are trying and not buying. CloD or other sims with no 'demo' may actually get revenue from those people who are forced to buy before they try unless they have a friend they can try it with.
It's unfortunate that the hobby is costing a lot of money to keep up with, but them's the breaks unfortunately. Compare this with the Sports games on consoles. Buy FIFA 16. Then FIFA 17 next year. Then FIFA 18. And 19. And 20. Each costing $79.99. Plus micro transactions for packs of 'cards' that fuel some of the multiplayer modes.
Everyone's trying to make money and protect their livelihood by making sure their business is viable. This is the choice that ED has made. BoS/M/K has gone a different road (paid theatre of war + premium additionals). Rise of Flight went a different way (individual paid for aircraft). Cliffs of Dover had a different model (one time purchase).
Time will tell if it's the right choice, but there's definitely justification for it. Considering the direction a lot of the gaming industry is heading with their business models, I think the 'pay $60 and that's it until the next game comes out in five years' way of doing things is on it's way out.
Ive been wanting to try DCS, but the price tag on all the stuff I want try in it is just too steep. I guess there's just too much sticker shock when I go scrolling through the modules. It looks cool and in depth, but meh. Buying everything individually and reading about less than stellar damage models, and most of all a limited WW2 planeset I just say no thanks. I'm not really interested in jets in the least either.
I am not familiar with any aspect of DCS,so I'd like to ask : what do I need to buy in order to have a full blown WW-2 flight sim, that would be on par with the say SP CloD or BoS? The trailer looks intriguing, but I'm not sure it includes all the planes we see, drive-able tanks( or are they more like the ones we see in CloD,watch-able but as yet not drive-able?)missions &/or campaigns ( like over the Normandy map or other WW-2 maps.) Is it primarily a MP sim? Can someone let me know if it is worth a try & how much I can expect to pay if it is.Thanks!
