Ive started to eye the Virpil Mongoose since ive sussed that its extra height would suit repositioning the sidewinder base in the centre of my set up at ass height.

Love the guys and their products so far but they kinda shit the bed on this one lol ... I now have a mcg pro grip on my gunfighter pro and there is no firmware to load so that I can use it. Now waiting a day (or 2 max) for that to be WRITTEN lol.

You are "Beta Tester".
Lol yes I've learned my lesson and will be moving on after this.
*Update - As it turns out the firmware that was put out today did indeed make the grip work as intended but as there is a painful lack of documentation working my way through the setup process in their software took quite a while. Thank goodness there are some helpful people on the vkb forums.

Well now that I have it working and have said enough bad, maybe time for the good. The MCG Pro so far is a dream to use (just not to set up! ) it is made of plastic and very light but the plastic and more importantly the switches are of high quality and the triggers metal so the build quality more than makes me happy. The brake lever is a great addition especially in BoX so I can now have both toe brakes, and in the Russian plane, the single lever brake bound easily (I used to switch my right toe brake to Wheel brake when flying Russian planes) The ergonomics of it fit my hand near perfect and there is an adjustable rest even if it didn't so its super comfortable to use. I'm still sorting how I can use all the bits and bobs it offers to my advantage so will surely have more to report later. Of course this isn't the most authentic thing for flying ww2 birds but now I have plenty to do all I need when I fly DCS as well (although I loathe the chore of setting up my controls yet again ) Now if I can only manage to figure out how to make one of the analog sticks emulate mouse input I will be really happy
Thank you for the advice I think I'll do just that. I did see one post asking for some additional features and poster was told "get used to the stick" and give them some time to get additional firmware written being that the default firmware was unavailable when people started receiving their grips.
Just wanted to tell you, I did just what you suggested and VKB told me they wouldn't bother and I should use use Joy2key lmao ..... They just keep impressing me so much At least I don't have to bitch about the quality of the product (well aside from a couple loose screws that me and about 80 people on the forum had to open the grip up and tighten ourselves, they should maybe invest in some thread locking compound)
Understandable, their "PR" are using that "KBG attitude" in their forum - and became a "Comic Ali" in the eyes of their consumers.

Anyway, here is talk about how set the mouse (forum require login - same of il2.com):

.. and now in metal (aluminum) the MCG Ultimate version:
With interchangeable HAT for mini-stick, without need open the grip.

$250 - $275 (with twist rudder).
BTW - Post a commentary on the video to compete for the drawing of a grip.
