    First Interception

Hi all, 2nd day on the server and my thanks goes to Paranoid who helped me no end, I am really grateful for his help and advice and of those I have talked to on Teamspeak.

Anyway, my first take-off went pear shaped, the left wing went low and no amount of aileron would correct it and ended up in a sad heap. Took off again and flew with Paranoid and once over the convoy I went down to intercept the enemy whilst he remained upstairs to cover my back unfortunately I misjudged my pullout and went strait in. Yet another aircraft destroyed!

2nd take-off went well and got over the convoy and soon saw flak bursts and ships being hit, could not see any aircraft so went right down onto the deck and came across one Dornier who was attacking a ship, put in a couple of bursts and smoke emitted from the left engine, I called up and asked if anyone was around and suddenly 2 Spitfires came across in front and knocked the hell out of him. Crew baled out and the Dornier started to bank left straight in front of me and I collided with it.

I am determined to improve! Finding that flying on the server is so much better than off-line flying but just a cautionary word, give me plenty of room...............for your own sake and survival!!

    Regards
    Nigel.

Great Post Combat Report Nigel! I enjoyed it very much! I've only been flying a year or so, so this brings it all back to me....the excitement...the panic....the 'what do I do now' moments...and, of course the exhilaration! And with it, the dawning understanding that Team Speak and with it the ability to cooperate with fellow pilots like Paranoid, is a really important but (unforeseen) bonus of the sim. I never realised that TS was going to be so vital when I first started. Now I couldn't and wouldn't want to fly without it.

It's great to see you are enjoying this new challenge and throwing yourself into this great little community of ours. Hope we get to fly together soon! Salute.....and 'knock em bandy!'

Hi Marlow and many thanks for your encouraging words. Went on in the evening but was struck down with connection problems as my broadband kept dropping so gave up. Now after yesterday I'm thinking of changing my user name from Nigel to Wrecker!!

By the way, who-ever shot me down over the Isle of Wight is now off my Christmas Greetings List. LOL!!

    Regards
    Nigel.

    Re: First Interception

Great combat report Nigel....I love to read them...especially by the new players...It brings it all back to me from when I started...and reminds me what our new players need from us in order to make this sim the best it can be for them to enjoy in those early days...

You will get better...You'll get shot less...and you will see more enemy and be able to evade them and fight them...I found that the learning process was part of the enjoyment of the sim...Someone would tell me something and I couldn't wait to put it into practice...and so on...In the end I was finding tricks out for myself which I still use to this day cos they still work...It should be a fun experience...

By the way...try full right aileron on take off...It sometimes keeps the aircraft more stable on take off....But let it go neutral once the tail wheel is up....Basically the engine torque is trying to push the aircraft left wing down...and this has a lot of effect when you are wheels down...So Trim 10 clicks right rudder...and use full aileron right to counter the twist left...As soon as you feel the nose dropping and the tailwheel is up then you will need to immediately let the aileron go back to neutral otherwise the aircraft will start to go right wing in...I use this method every time irrelevant of wind direction and it works pretty well for me...

Have fun with it Nigel...Its all about the fun!

    Re: First Interception

Hi Lew and many thanks for your encouraging words as sometimes after being shot down a number of times you can begin to wonder whether or not you will ever get the hang of it. I spent a session on the training server this afternoon and then decided to leave and set up my guns properly (thanks to some very helpful videos from members here) so a bit of trial and effort for the right load-out is ahead for me before I do it for real as I am in no hurry to get shot down again!!

    Regards
    Nigel.

I love reading people's first combat stories. First times in CloD are amazing and hard to beat.
