    New player requesting training?

    Hi there,

My name is Chris, but I got by the username super_chris12435. I've been on this forum for a while, but the complex nature of IL-2 Cliffs of Dover had me intimidated for a while to join in. Having seen some of the screenshots and what IL-2 Cliffs of Dover is like, I must admit, I decided to join in.

I'm not new to flight simulations, as I'm currently working on a Battle of Britain project for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3. Mostly recreating the AI and the missions itself.

I'm just wondering if there'd be anyone here who'd be willing to show a complete newbie to the IL-2 series the ropes?

I don't really play multiplayer, but I've always wanted to.

The biggest thing I'd like to learn with IL-2 is how I can fly a Hurricane/Spitfire so I can play a single player campaign that apparently has accurate formation numbers and all.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Welcome Chris.

Jump on TS if you can. It adds to the immersion immeasurably. Whether you talk or not is up to you. You can listen in and hear where the action is at.

Get stuck in and yell out if you need a hand.

As you can see, there are plenty of us who will help. Whether that be flying red or blue.

    Have fun!

    Re: New player requesting training?

Well, thank you all for welcoming me!

I was on here oh, must've been two years or so ago mostly to try IL-2 CLOD.

I won't be able to get onto the TS server until later this week, probably Thursday or so.

I look forward to learning the basics of IL-2.

What I'd like to do is eventually convert my Combat Flight Simulator 3 Battle of Britain missions over to IL-2 Cliffs of Dover.

    Thanks again,

    Chris

    Re: New player requesting training?

    Hi Chris..

Just so you don't feel quite so intimidated by multiplayer...We have some new players join here who are not only new to flight sims but new to any video gaming at all so if you have flight sim experience already you kinda go straight to the top of the class...I think with a historical flight sim like CLOD it attracts many folks who want to be able to get as close to what it was like flying a WW2 aircraft in combat...and so they come here...Many of them are amateur historians really with buckets of knowledge but no gaming experience...That makes this community unique...They are mature...and very helpful...

Also folks like me that had a lot of WW2 flight sim experience with sims like IL2 1946 for many years but still don't have the ability to juggle temperatures and CEM mid-dogfight...For that reason I made a very simple 'set it and forget it' setup for allied fighters that although is mildly conservative is highly competitive...I still use it today...

Easy Allied CEM for New Players

This will enable you to fly into battle and concentrate on other areas of the fight such as tactics and SA without the concern of CEM...Check my videos and you will see this setup in the lower left of my screen...I only ever check my dash for altitude once airborne in the ATAG Full Real server...Once you have those other skills mastered you can then experiment with the CEM and tweak out the last few percentage of your aircrafts capability if you wish...

Welcome Back to the Community and Forums super_chris12435...~S~

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve too...

    Beginners Guide

    Windows Management Guide

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!

Hi Super Chris...I'd be glad to fly with you anytime if we can get our time zones to match. Unfortunately, I've been away for a week and have another enforced absence from the cockpit coming up....but if you see me on TS or on line generally do grab me and say 'hello.' We can take it from there.

This is a great little community that we have here (Lewis is absolutely correct in all he says above!) and you won't regret joining. Like you, I was very anxious about going into multiplayer when I started a year ago. I have been totally surprised and delighted with the maturity and kindness shown me. Get stuck in, Chris! You're gonna love it! Good luck and hope to meet you in the virtual air very soon. Salute!

    Re: New player requesting training?

Well, thank you all for the kind welcome! I'll try and jump in there tomorrow afternoon!

Like I said, I'll need training for a total newbie. Specifically setting up controls and all

I've got a set of rudder pedals and a 7-button MadCatz V1 joystick
