I'm aiming for minimum smoke ! which is why the wax capacitor across the incoming 240v mains (!!!!) is now a 500V Class X1.... !

    Resistors in.

Still gotta take a look at the voltage dropper. (prehistoric version of a transformer but just made out of whopping great restistors to take 240v ac or dc down to useable circuit voltage... )

Checks out ok as far as resistance goes... still might swap out one part... I bet this things gets way hot.

Next part is cleaning up the case, taking the boot shaped dent out of teh speaker grill... and then... I think we are on for some late 1940's stlye valve powered BBC (in today's money Radio 4 on long wave)

soooo tempting to fire it up just on the bench... but with 240v on a chassis made of metal and no earth... no chance !!

so far its looking good though....

Re: The Highseas School of Blah-di-Blah

    She lives !!!

didnt think it was working at first... just two really dim dial lamps... meh !! bugger !!!

but its a valve set.... take time to heat up.

About 30 seconds in this case... which in silence feels like 10 minutes.

    amazing !!

got a slight bacground hum but i think i know what is at faul there... need a pair of 32uF electrolytic capacitors and i think it should go.

even so... its no big deal in any case !!

If i get around to it I will upload a video.

Halting the School of Blahh Di BNlaa for a bit as im now concentrating on maying my own throttle quadrant... and thats in a different thread.

School will resume after that particular holiday.

    Thanks for listening !

What I miss most about Radio Days was listening to Jean Shepard's monologues on WOR New York late night doing my studies when I was attending RCA Institutes. He was the originator of "talk radio" in the USA.

Here is a sample, enjoy !:

Today I had a day off work. So I rendered some.lard and made some pork scratchings.

They are very good. No snouts.

It is a well known fact ( one of the few that escaped Shakespeare's notice) that you can't do better than a good sausage! Salute!
