Making progress on the Tomahawk Quadrant. I still need to design the Throttle knob with Push-to-Talk button and figure a way to thread the wires down the lever.

Working on a new version of my basic quadrant control. Nothing wrong with the old one, but this will have adjustable tension, rather than the spring-loaded mechanism on the previous model. Also putting the pot on the bottom will make Assembly/Disassembly easier when ganged.

I've also designed a universal encoder board that I'll be making available soon. It will allow you to use the encoder with any joystick controller, whether encoders are supported or not. It will be configurable via jumpers to change the number of pulses per click.

Here is the (more-or-less) final version, everything fits together and meshes nicely. Same footprint as the previous model, but parts are sturdier. A printed plastic board will be used to hold the potentiometer in place on the one-up version, and a PCB will be used on the ganged versions. This version will require a new lever and knob assembly, not backward-compatible with the old assembly.

Mechanical design is pretty much done for this quadrant. Just tweaking for fit and function as prototype parts come off the printer. Have to work on the electronics next... only need 3 axes and 1 button. Will probably have the USB cable come out the right side.

That latest P-40 quadrant got my attention. Looking very good. I guess with one more lever module in the middle and maybe a different handle it could be made into a P-47 quadrant (for DCS and BoS).
Any chance you are selling only the .stl files to be printed and assembled at home? On etsy I only found the already pre-assembled units.
Thanks!

So mechanically everything works pretty well, but I don't like the size of the knobs...they feel too small.
I've re-measured and it looks I was off on my conversions, as the knobs are definitely too small. I don't have actual sizes for those, as I am working off these prints from a P-40E, and the knobs aren't detailed, so I'm just taking known measurements and extrapolating. The Pitch and Mixture knobs I can just scale, but the Throttle knob has a number of parts that have to interact with a tactile switch, so that will take a little more work.

OK, knobs are resized and reprinted. I notice the Push-to-Talk button on the throttle knob in CLOD is yellow, but the photo I found on-line is black. Probably doesn't make any difference, but I'll try it both ways to see which looks better.

I've sanded and put a coat of primer on the faceplate to smooth it out a bit. Some of the text didn't print very well. I think maybe the "INCREASE - DECREASE" text is too small, so I'll resize it just a little bigger. I think I'll also have to print this at a finer resolution. Right now I'm printing at .2mm and relatively fast...it takes about 6 hours to print this. I'll try it at .12 mm and slower. It will take around 11 hours to print at this speed, but the layer lines should be a lot less visible.

Ok, here my first impressions:
Great!
The whole thing is considerably bigger than I thought which is a good thing when you reached the age in which you need a whole assortment of glasses.
The construction is utterly solid and sturdy.
Plugged it in and it worked. Simple as that.
All axes and switches (that work just like keyboard buttons) were immediately recognised by CloD.
36 buttons, five levers and three trim wheels finally rescue me from these hated key combinations that were a bit difficultto press in emergeny situation and that I never could remember anyway.
I don't have VR and I certainly won't be the first to buy such a thing, when it will be implemented in CloD, but with this device after some practise you are able to feel the controls you need without looking at them.
I'm glad I bought it!
For German buyers: you have to pay the 19% value-added tax, but no custom fees were charged.
S!

Working on prototypes for the QQ4 (Quick-Quadrant 4). I will have one model with switches, and one with encoders. Went with a flat faceplate as it is easier to 3D print, and works better with the new V2 quadrant assembly.
