Throttle jumps to 100% by itself

Problem:
Happens in single player only, in the Quick Missions and Single Missions.
Happens with all player controlled fighters in the dogfight missions.
When the enemy is on your six, or in close combat, the throttle automatically jumps to 100% by itself.
When the enemy is no longer chasing you, the throttle goes back to normal.
Sometimes the throttle jumps at the end of the enemy's attack.

It's like the game forces you to use maximum throttle in combat.

As it looks like lots of things are about to be fixed, I thought this should be looked at too.

Feel free to suggest anything I might have set up wrong...

Appears to be linked to AI mission orders for each waypoint:
ENGAGE ENEMY FIGHTERS
FREE HUNT
NORMAL FLIGHT
These allow AI fighters to attack the player's fighter and cause the throttle to jump in close combat.
If the mission orders do not allow the AI to engage in combat, then the player's throttle is normal.

EDIT:
Also happens on my laptop install of CLOD where throttle was bound to keyboard keys and not the joystick throttle.

Appears to be related to the AI deciding I am the next target. When they break off, the throttle is normal again.

Unplugged joystick and played using keys only on laptop and desktop pc. Single player - Dogfight even - low level mission - Spit v 109 E4:
1 v 1 throttle jumps on head on passes where enemy fires at me, or in a turn fight at the end of the enemy's attack.
4 v 4 throttle jumps almost continuously in a fur ball fight, or again at the end of a single enemy's attack.

EDIT:
Looked at key bindings and everything ok.
Anthropomorphic Control: Disabled - same if enabled.
No AI Control: Enabled - same if disabled.

This may sound unrelated, but try it.

Lower your graphics settings and see if it still acts that way.

I have to say I have never seen this happen and I mainly stick to single player flying atm because my 2 small children make me pause frequently It isn't something I can reproduce on my install.

It seems to be related to the AI locking on to me as the next target. When they break off, the throttle is normal again.

This happens on my laptop install of CLOD too. I used to use the Xbox 360 controller with that ( I know, I know ). The throttle was set to keyboard keys so I know it's not an issue with my joystick.

Key bindings seem ok to me:

Keys:
War emergency power - nothing assigned
Toggle war emergency power - hat switch right assigned

Axes:
War emergency power - nothing assigned

This is the thing, I don't press anything when it jumps. In a head on for example, as soon as the enemy opens fire, the throttle goes to maximum. I can be hands off stick, not touch anything and it still does it...

I did calibrate my joystick a few days ago, out of curiosity, but no difference at all. I use the Windows standard USB device drivers.

I've updated the opening post too. I completely unplugged my joystick from the desktop pc and played using keys only. Did the same with my laptop but I've never used this joystick on the laptop.

Result was more or less the same on both PCs. Throttle jumps a lot more in a 4 v 4 fur ball than a straight 1 v 1 fight.

I think I can remove my joystick as the culprit

Just a little side note to say I always found the centre point of the T16000m to be a tiny bit off. Pushing forward responded faster than pulling back. Using the Windows calibration, together with very gentle forward pressure on the stick during centering, has got it exactly where I want it.

I agree with Kendy, sounds like autopilot is kicking in. Except it's only throttle. Weird for sure.

Sry for all the questions, but process of elimination seems to be the best way to solve these problems unless someone has posted the fix already. I haven't been able to find the fix in tech section.

I have exactly the same problem. Noticed it only when I started flying with 80% throttle during gunnery practice in singleplayer (always was 100% before). Thought it was my throttle at first, but it happens only during singleplayer. Settings set to full real except for ammo, fuel being unlimited and my plane being invincible to AI.
Constant jumps to 100% when AI attacking me, nothing at all when they just start flying circles, goes like that every time (I fly against 24 so there is always a phase when they are engaging and a phase when they are not - never able to shoot all of them during the first phase)
Checked the throttle - no jitter, axis seems good. Calibrated it, no joy.
Graphics settings set to max, except for epilepsy filter being disabled, extended clouds set to yes, ingame sound is 100%.

I noticed it when trying out various defensive manoeuvres that involved chopping the throttle and it would just keep going straight back to full.

Was single player ever normal for you?

DRock, to answer your question, it's been like this since day 1. First on my laptop, and a few months later, on my desktop too. I guess that's 2 installs with the same issue, though I'm not really sure how Steam does a 2nd install of the same game.

In single player in 109's this happens a lot when I chop the throttle it spikes to full. I use a warthog set up which is fine in multiplayer.

IF you switch off "Anthropomorphic Control" in Realism Options THEN you won't get this bug.

2) In the in-game Realism settings, make sure "Anthropomorphic Effects" is unchecked. (ie. disabled). This is a glitchy feature that frequently causes your joystick/throttle controls to freeze up.

I've checked the keys and axes for the WEP commands. I've set different keys, I've cleared them all, I've set only joystick buttons, I've tried various things but in the end, the result is always the same.

Right now all the keys are unassigned apart from Toggle WEP (for German planes). I have joystick POV 90 or hatswitch right in other words.

I'm pretty sure it's not my particular joystick or key bindings that are causing the problem.

Well I fly (Bf 109) - Quick Mission - with your controls and nothing strange happens to throttle (set in keypad +, -).

I am surprised this has not been noticed and reported sooner, but personally I have made very little use of the Quick Missions feature, prefering to go into the Full Mission Builder to set up what I want to do.

Testing was fun. One invulnerable G50 with limitless ammo against twenty Blenheim night fighters was actually almost too much fun!

Absolutely not! I was wrong.

The bug is in the "Single Player Quick Mission" missions, and it is independent of realism options.

Switching off "anthropomorphic controls" will not cure this error!

Spits v E4s

Choose either side, it's the same for both RAF or LW.

Enter the fight with throttle something like 75% and see what happens to the throttle during the fight.

It reminded me that I had coppied some of the Quick Missions into the Single Missions so I could edit them in the Full Mission Builder.

This may be a clue because the original Single Mission missions don't have the throttle problem but, the missions I had copied across from Quick Missions do have the problem.

Something in the way the fighters are set up in the Quick Mission files is different to the way fighters are set up in the Single Mission files.

Quick Missions: fighters have throttle problem.
Single Missions: fighters don't have throttle problem.

Question is why ? What is different in the way those two types of missions have been set up ?

EDIT: ALSO HAPPENS IN SINGLE MISSIONS IF AI HAVE ORDERS TO ENGAGE IN COMBAT.
