Rads setting 109... dials not responding

    Hi guys
Don't know if you ever had noticed.. But when you fly in a clime and youre rads are to mutch closed.. And you come under 300kph. You're engine is going to give up... But the dials stay on the good site heat oil and water.. So that's is Stange... Because the engine is not giving up for nothing.!!!

It takes a while for the radiator sensors to register the heat which is happening in the engine.... heat takes time to transfer from the pistons, cylinders and cylinder head to the cooling fluid and then to the sensors.

Lesson: Don't rev the sh*t out of your engine.

Re: Rads setting 109... dials not responding

Whenever you popped your rads, your temperature falls, even when rads are more closed. People complain that their temperature was on the good site, while it was on the good site after they popped it.

Probably a bug, but people seem to forget about this.

Also keep in mind that between 3 - 5.5k altitude all aircraft suffer from increased overheating at the moment. It's fairly easy to bust a radiator in that altitude band when going full power for a few minutes!

I never found the temp dials very useful.

A little trick if you are unsure and trying to get used to controlling the rads/engine/temps, is to hover your mouse cursor over the temp gauge while you are in that climb.
You will get a more accurate numeric reading.

Btw u have oil temp and oil pressure dails in my sportscar. It shows me pretty good how dials are reacting on a engine..!!

I dont know why but just lately if my rads leak i close it slightly more thinking it would slow the leakage ? any truth to that. or is that just some funny noobish idea ?

Re: Rads setting 109... dials not responding

A pretty significant omission in the overheat condition modelling of Clod 109 vs. real 109 is that the real 109 had an over-pressure relief valve that dumped coolant vapor out through the exhaust stubs on the right side of the engine. This was a secondary visual warning to the pilot that the rads were not open adequately. The pilot then could open the rads up back off on power and let things get back to normal. CloD 109s overheat and blow the rads every time and nothing can be done to cool back down once rads are leaking.
