    Kanalkampf: Convoy OA 178

Here's a new mission to try out. Will be on the server sometime this week.

NOTE: - I realize this is NOT HISTORICAL. The plane sets, the LW radar, airspawns etc. No need to point that out, its intended to be 'just a mission'. Also AI cannot be called if more than 20 players on the server. The airspawns are limited to: He111, Ju-87, 109E1 and Blen V, Hurr I, Spit I. Land bases - all aircraft available (for now)...

    RED:

    Kanalkampf: CONVOY OA 178 - V1

    1000 hrs

Winds from the SE @ 6 knots.

Royal Navy Convoy OA 178 is running west through the channel. They will need protection from the RAF as the Luftwaffe is sure to make attacks against them. We will conduct an offensive against the airfields of Theville and Querqueville to help supress the enemies ability to conduct these attacks. Two minensuchboots are moving north to intercept our fleet and must be destroyed. Other targets on the Cherbourg peninsula include a large amount of german war material housed in various buildings in the dock area near some cargo ships currently waiting to be loaded. Also a small radar site sits to the east of Theville airfield.

TAB-41 available for Enemy and Friendly Contact Reports

    Fighter Command orders:

Protect your shipping, bases and Radar and signals stations at Niton and Ventnor. Some will be assigned escort duty to protect our bombers.

    Bomber Command targets/values:

=10= X 2 (total 20 points) German Minensuchboots attacking our fleet from AE-10 heading north
    =10= Theville Radar AE-7.4
    =10= Theville Luftwaffe Airfield AD-7.2
    =10= Querqueville Luftwaffe Airfield AB-7.3
    =10= Cherbourg Dockyard AC-7.2

    50 = victory

    BLUE:

    Kanalkampf: CONVOY OA 178 - V1

    1000 hrs

    Winds from the SE @ 3 m/s.

Enemy shipping continues to flow through the channel, and must be stopped in order to starve Britain of resources. A fleet of 14 ships awaits it demise. Other air operations against targets on the Isle will be against British radar at Ventnor, a signals station at Niton, and the RAF airfield of Bembridge.

TAB-41 available for Enemy and Friendly Contact Reports

    Fighter Command orders:

Escort your Bombers to Bembridge, Niton, the radar station at Ventnor and the British fleet. Protect our Cherbourg coastal airfields, Radar and Harbour from enemy attacks if they strike. Our navy is sending 2 Minensuchboots to intercept the fleet and support our aircrews, cover them from attack also.

    Bombing orders/values:

    =10= RAF Bembridge AG-18.3
    =10= Ventnor Radar site AG-17.1
    =10= Niton Signals Station AF-16.8
=70= Royal Navy ships (X 14 at 5 pts each) AH-13 and westbound

    95 = victory

Some of the less familiar Targets:

    cherbourg docks:

    Niton Signals station:

    Theville Radar:

AS always, if you find bugs, problems, or have suggestions to make the mission game-play better or balanced out, I'm all ears.

    Enjoy!

Mission sounds great! Hope that me and TGIF MAS wreck all the red objectives when this comes out!

I'm on a secret mission in Vichy France at the moment, checking out various haylofts () but I'm looking forward to shooting down Miles and TGIF on my return! Ha ha.......there's a challenge for you, lads!

    Re: Kanalkampf: Convoy OA 178

    Hi everyone,

As a mission builder (ok only 1 thus far but i have plans for the new map...) i keep an eye on what missions are popular and what are not so popular as this can help development of future maps.

In the last few weeks ive noticed this map doesnt seem to be getting a lot of love and is noticeably underpopulated during peak hours. Ive just flown a 90min sortie on it during the Euro evening and the numbers were quite low when i started and got even lower till they were less than 10 when i landed. Yesterday at a similar time on a different map there was around 40-50 by way of comparison.

I cant speak for Freya's willingess to modify this map but it would be useful to get some constructive feedback on why it seems many players arent liking this map so much as this can help future mission design. So if you have a few spare minutes and have some thoughts re this mission it would be great to hear from you.

Some areas that mission makers consider are plane set, mission objectives, geographic configuration, balance between kick-the-tires-light-the-fires types and those who prefer a more longer type of sortie etc etc. So feedback on these areas would be appreciated if possible.

Again i cant speak for Freya and he may have no intent to mess anymore with this map. But some feedback would still be useful for future missions.

    Ta

    Ezzie

    Re: Kanalkampf: Convoy OA 178

Thanks Ezzie. Feedback is always appreciated. I've had no time to enjoy Cliffs'0 of late, summer is a bit busy in many aspects, for many of us. I've also had no time to get into the FMB and do some stuff that needs doin' so I'm afraid I can't update this one. We mission builders hope to provide enjoyment and variety to the online crowd but failure is a price that sometimes goes along with that task. If this mission is not enjoyable for this particular environment, I'd much rather just see it go to the dumpster. Like you (and all), I await the next chapter of this sim to make an appearance, and with that I suspect that a 'culling of the herd' with the missions currently on the server will have to take place, and new scenarios brought in to make room for the new features and aircraft we will see.

With that said, if 3 players respectfully post for this mission to be removed, it will be done...

I for one enjoy this map and i hope it stays in rotation. The ground targets are fun and challenging for the bombers, and there are plenty of opportunities for dogfights to be had for the fighter boys, Cheers to all the mission builders for all of your hard work.

Prefer Kanal redux to the old one. Seems a lot fairer in terms of the combat area and time to transit to the action zones.

Never under estimate the European Summertime, kids staying up a bit later and the resulting knockback of house duties and the need of spouses to watch Andy Murray/whoeever at Winbledon, Ezzie.

I'm with Silent on this. Keep it in rotation. Thanks Freya!
