    Cool Hello fellow pilots

I bought this game back in 2013 but i was forced to quit as my computer was not up to the job... well now i have a new computer and i'm back!

i was so glad to see that this community still here, i rememebered you guys helping me in game way back when i was first learning it... great people and community!

    I'm from the UK.

Ive not installed TS yet but will be doing very soon, maybe today... i have also ordered a delan clip which after reading your discussions on it in this forum, seemed to offer more bang for the buck than the other options..i cant believe its going to take up to two weeks to have the delivered though... pfft oh well, ive waited 4 years... whats another couple of weeks...

My computer, well i bought it off my bro, he doesnt like gaming on his pc now...so this is what i got:
    Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz
    8gb ram
    1tb hdd
    geforce 1060 6gb

very nice gfx card in it but i do notice a bit of stutter when i fly low over the towns.. it hasnt got a solid state drive which i notice is recommended for a minimal setup to play this game..
they are not all that cheap though but i could throw another 8gb of ram in it that wouldnt cost much..

do you's think a SSD or another 8gb of ram would be the best upgrade for it?

bearing in mind that im seeing small amounts of stutter now and i havnt installed TS or my head tracker yet..

Once again, its good to be back... look forward to seeing you's in game...

    Hello and Welcome back!

Not just still here but going from strength to strength.

Id take an SSD over the RAM - currently Clod wont push 8GB at 1080P even with all the other goodies on. The SDD will make a difference though.

So that's Clod but other games may need more RAM (BOS I don't think will but DCS....well....its a hungry hector!)

The stuttering over towns happens, you can minimise it by doing stuff like switching off your AV and lowing the building detail but it is known issue. Le Harve and London especially.

If you run Win 10, turning of the xbox and game mode rubbish as well as finding "Connected User Experiences" in the services tab and killing it will help.

Same goes for stuff like Nvidia Experience although a lot use this without issues.

    Enjoy!!

Thanks Boo, i appreciate your feedback.. this game will be my main game so going on your comment i probably will go for the drive over the memory..
It's a fresh install of win10 that i got and ive not done any tweeking of the OS. I'm pretty cluless with win10 compared to previous versions... but i'll look that stuff up that you mentioned and turn them off... thanks mate.

    Hello cba_tbh.

As Boo says, welcome back to Cliffs of Dover and welcome to the ATAG forum.

The community is as you remember it, as friendly and helpful bunch as you could wish to meet.

CloD is brilliant thanks to Team Fusion (now Team Fusion Simulations) and all the work and dedication they have put into making this sim what it is. This is a very good time to return as there is a great deal of new stuff pending for which we are all very enthusiastic and eager.

Keep a look out for the welcome post from my good friend ATAG_Lewis which along with the 'Beginners Guide' will give you much useful information and tips.

Come and join the action in the ATAG Axis v Allies main server. TS is a must but it does make the sim that much more enjoyable. You can also ask any questions you may have as well.

I look forward to meeting you online soon.

Welcome to the Community and Forums cba_tbh ...~S~

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve too...

    Beginners Guide

    Windows Management Guide

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!

Welcome back to the sim cba_tbh

Glad you now have a machine capable of running cliffs, which despite it's age is still probably the best combat flight sim around at the moment thanks to the awesome work done by Team Fusion Simulations, and it is set to get even better soon with the eagerly awaited release of two new patches.

I look forward to meeting you in the virtual skies soon

Knock the buildings amount down one peg. You probably wont notice a diffrence visually... but FPS wise it will be a marked improvement.

    And...

    WELCOME HOME !!

If you go down the SSD route I'd suggest you bung the OS / word and so on on that and Cliffs / other games on your HDD...

I doubt it will help with stutters, (other than that your OS and the game will be accessing different drives and so less chance of any conflict ?! possibly) but it will certainly boot your system faster.

Im running an GTX980ti no stutters, AA is on (x2) V-sync on... evverything max except building amount with is one step down.

its smooooth. drops a tad when flying low over London but not so much as I can see a difference. In fact I only know thsi because I tested it with the FPS shown on screen.

    See you up there !!

    Re: Hello fellow pilots

Thanks for the welcome and advice Highseas mate..

Well the SSD will have to wait for a month or two i think, but when i eventually get one i will arrange it as you have advised..the memory is not an expensive upgrade though so i think i'll do that soon...
the stuttering is not as bad now that i did what boo said, turning off game mode and that service thing that spys on you... deffinately made a big difference doing that...

    Re: Hello fellow pilots

Be cautious with extra RAM - most gamey Mobos like 2 paired sticks in the A2/B2 slots better than 4 (especially if made of 2 purchases months or years apart). That's of course especially true if you're thinking of OC'ing even a bit.

Only my own unscientific tests but I do find a clock upwards of 4Ghz suits Clod but there are lots who happily play the game with lower rates too.

As I said before 8GB RAM will be fine for Clod - run the task manager's performance monitor and you'll see. Paying the extra may not be worth it until there is a proven need but its your call.
