    Why dont my Ju88As bomb when I have done target set and clicked on hanger ?

    Hi,
    FMB Ju88 3000m raid on Hawkinge, last waypoint prior to airfield choose action bomb ground target, then select target button and click set, get a ring, click it on hanger, should hanger change colour or something ?
    There is no feedback from hanger, .
    save it and deselect with a right click.

    play mission, they dont bomb anything.

    Also how do I view the raid from the ground at Hawkinge ?

    Are the bombers equipped with bombs? Check in the object viewer to make sure. The FMB will not load bombs by default, you need to choose the payload when you assign the properties of the flight.

    thanks for the tip,...

    I have , in FMB, selected the first waypoint, looked and in Group properties for that it says:-
    Weapon Set ...default [Stock]
    there is nothing else in that dropdown about Bombs

    I also see in there Empty[stock]
    select that and somehow manage to get a drop down list front bomb bay I select GP bombs, rear ditto.

    Weight Current 9604kg take off 12300kg
    Ammo Belts Default
    Detonators Default
    Skill different

    I fly it again and yet still nothing. I thought that would have been it. Also they are somewhat very loose spread out, certainly not a decent vic of 3 x 3 formation. I chose 3 vics of three.
    only one or two would have been above the target.

    Stumped..

    Hi there, yes I found those, whilst you were typing a reply, selected the bombs for front and rear racks, should make a few holes in the ground I thought
    flew it again and still no bombing occurred. The last waypoint is set for bomb ground, the white ring set on the hanger.

    There was a 1lokos thread for someone else I just found where bombing was set up outside of FMB, so I will try for that.

    Hi,
    My Germans are not being naughty boys !!

    Loaded Ju88 with bombs before fly FMB then also had to use FMB, still failed to release bombs.

    I decided to create a new mission, He111 bomb Manston. three flights of 3.
    last waypoint before Manston, choose action > ground attack target, click on target set, click the target ring on a manston hanger.
    next waypoint normal flight, propagate fwd.

    in FMB Load bomb bay with GP bombs, set fuse 0.8 sec.

    fly this, still no bombing occurs

    and after they follow the waypoint line over the target, the map shows the blue aircraft wandering away from that line, then they fan out, see the one over by St Nicholas at Wade for example.

    From the outset they didnt fly as three vics of three, all very sloppy formation work.

    The Ju88 were echelon stbd, thats no way to bomb a target.

    What is going on here ?

    First you probably didnt place any object to be their target, objects on default map can not be picked for target option with that ground attack order you say you used, thats why they go to target, change formation see no object in area and dont bomb.

    Second for high altitude bombing of airbases, ports, citys or objects on map already, use Ground Attack Area option, Target option use only when u have some objects added to map that you wont them to bomb ( trains, columns, moving ships and so on), and when you wont to define type of attack on thouse objects. Also in Area type bombers keep formation same from start, dont change it on last waypoint before attack.

    Third from picture you posted it seams that they behave like that because after you set them to bomb target you are making them turn 180deg with 3 waypoints in 5km airspace, formation of bombers cant do that and stay in formation, they will brake formation or even colide if not planed good. Give them space and dont make them turn more then lets say 30-45 deg from waypoint to waypoint, and give them 10-20km airspace or more. Also dont make them go to fast, then other bombers will have hard time keeping in place with leader after turns.

    Fourth, In skill of airplanes use custom option, and move all skill sliders related to flying to max, so they keep formation beter and still dont shot like aces with rear gunner, or just make them all Ace skill if you dont wont to bather with custom options.

    And here is working test mission, so you can compare it with yours and see how it looks when they fly and bomb target using custom skill, ground attack area option, and longer waypoints with normal speed. Copy this in some mission file you wont to use for test and play it from FMB, player is set in 2nd airplane, just putt autopilot on when you start it.

    When you use Ground Attack Target option with that ring, you will know target is correctly selected when ring stays with object you are selecting, and there is line going from ring at that object to waypoint that you are using for ground attack. So if you place static airplane inside of hangar, you will be able to use this option and put ring on that airplane. But i like Area option better as airplanes dont change formation then before attack and bomb spred is predictable, i like to use Target on moving stuff or when dive attack is neccesary.

    To view raid from ground use static camera, you will se i placed one in that test mission from previous post, you can select altitude of camera, by default is 100m, and you have to have enabled outside views to be able to select camera during mission with Shift+F2 or Ctrl+F2 i dont remenber what key is by default, its one that you use to switch from airplane to airplane in outside view.

    Hi Akula93,
    this sounds very promising, it was driving me nuts why it didnt work. I will follow this and make a .mis file from that code in notepad, renaming file type to .mis, I recall thats the way to do it.

    I will report back with my results. This method and advice will get added to my notes for beginners.

    Hi,
    reporting back....

    I have used Ground Attack Area now for my attack on Hawkinge, I dont get a ring attached to the last waypoint but you say you only get that as confirmation when using Ground Attack target.

    I also made sure all changes in direction were 30degrees or less. I tried for the skill 'custom' but didnt see any sliders presented to me when choosing that in FMB so opted for Ace as Group settings.

    Where do those sliders appear ?

    I fly the mission and bomb doors opened and bombs were released, however I saw no explosions on the ground from the air.

    I ran your mission having saved that code to a txt file then renamed it.mis and flown it, I see bombs explode on the ground from the air.

    So why do my bombs not explode ?

    I googled how to view the camera and it says , ensure No Enemy Views and No Friendly Views are turned off.
    I have looked in game and also searched on these terms and also just the word views in the pdf manual and found zero.

    Just where are these two settings so I can untick them ?

    One then has to , in mission, use View Next Enemy/Friendly control, which it says is Ctrl F2 and Shift F2 by default, to cycle through available views until you find cameras, which will be after all aircraft in the list.

    Not sure now why my bombs dont explode. I had autopilot on from the outset, so all arming etc would be done I presume.

    how does one post in a reply the mission file or its coding ?

    Yes with ground attack area you dont see ring, bombers will try to bomb at exact location of that ground attack waypoint, so you should use that waypoint as place where you wont bombs to hit.

    To get sliders for custom skills, click on that box to the right of arow that you use to select skills, when you click on that box new window will open with sliders. it should look like on this picture:



    To enable outside views, go in Option then in Realisam and in views section untick No Outside views, that should do it, and also in aircraft switching section just untick all 6 of them just in case that also has to be off.

    Regarding why bombs dont explode in your mission, my first guess would be you didnt set detonators for bomb type bombers have.

    To post your mission data just copy everything in that mission, and just past it in post you are typing and leve it as thatl people will know how to use it in raw form.
    Or after you past mission data in your post, select all mission data, and in post toolbar click on option CODE, its this simbol #, then in post mission data will look like in my previous post.

    Also this will come in handy in future, because of one of many bugs with AIs in Cliffs, here you can fined detailed info on how to plan decend for formations of bombers, so they behave normaly and dont brake formations and even colide:

    Basicly you have to treat each bomber type formation differantly when planing them to change altitudes, especialy decending.

    So should my waypoint I have set to Ground Attack area be over the centre of Hawkinge, and when I select target Set I simple click this on my waypoint ?

    Yes just place that ground attack area waypoint directly over base, if your plan was for AI to bomb that base, no need to use Set option when you are using ground attack area.

    I run your mission and i see bombs explode exactly where you pland them to drop bombs, 4km east from Hawking base, you were probably looking at wrong place expecting bombs to explode on base and thats why you think your bombs dont explode.
    If you just move that ground attack waypoint over base you will see them exploding on base.

    If you falow your AI bombers to last two waypoints where you are planing them to dive from 3000m to 500m, you will see that decent bug behavior of AI bomber formations, around 1000m they will start to brake formation as they reach they max alowed decent speed when they are used in formations. You need to change that decline from 3000m to 1000m and change their speed on that 1000m waypoint to 250kmh so they are decending slower and dont build up speed as mutch, it will all be ok then.

    In this mission i added static camera on Hawking and edited yor mission waypoints with decline, ground attack, and make more distance betwen waypoints where AI is making turns.
    Also i added them landing on base so you can see how they behave in that situation.

    If you continue to exploring AIs in this game you will quickly fined out just how bugy this game is in that department.

    I see you talk about "beginners guide", if its about AI, I would wait for TFS to fix stuff before making any guids for this version of game as new patches will make AI to behave totaly differant then they behave now, and i belive AI tips based on this patch will probably not be correct for game running on new patches.

    Hi,
    I now have my Ju88s level bombing the airfield, this is all thanks to you and I am very pleased . Thank you so much for the guidance.
    I will add this current method to my beginners guide, though it will need revising when TF5 appears.

    Ju88A's are also dive bombers, how do I get them to dive bomb Hawkinge ?

    I have made the static cameras 2m, for human eye level , however when I go Ctrl F2 I dont arrive at the camera, but some way away looking across to where it is, right mouse button and zoom my way toward it but it never stops at camera, I can go beyond. camera acts more as a zoom through point. I can also rise up in the air higher than 2m.
    Camera 0 was Hawkinge and camera 1 was the german airfield, yet Ctrl F2 sees first camera shows as the german airfield, so when recording the bombing effect, I must pause then get to camera, then unpause the sim.

    Here is my view when Ctrl F2 is hit for where the camera was placed at the corner of the incorrect artwork Belfast hanger.

    Im glad you finaly manage to figure it out

    For dive bombing AI ju88 change this in your mission:

    Use 180kmh speed for attack, and previous 2 waypoints
    Place some static airplane near or inside of hangars, then they have target to attack
    Use ground attack target option, in type option use dive bombing or auto,
    Use Set option to place ring on one of static airplanes and they will try to attack only static airplanes, or dont use set and they will automaticly pick any type target in area
    Use 1000m alt on first waypoint after attack, so they stedy climb to alt after attack
    Use only 250kg or 500kg bombs, set detonators for low level

    As you see many things need to be set correctly to get successful dive bombing with AI ju88, and even then they can either crash or do some strange dive depending on altitude and speed used or place or type of target objects. You will see it will be try and error most of times to achive what you wont with dive attack with AI ju88. It seams they use same AI logic as Ju87, and what works fine and easy for dive bombing AI Ju87, does not work same for AI ju88 as its bigger airplane and builds up bigger speed in dive, dont manuver as good as ju87, it is set to drop bombs at around 1000m like ju87 but ju87 can easy pull up from that point at any situations, ju88 cant at most situations. You can use ju88s, this is example how it looks:

    When I change camera altitude to 2m all is ok, my view point starts at exact position where i placed camera. Problem you have on thouse pictures is because you already zoomed out while looking at airplane or something els before you ctrl+F2 and switch to this 2m static cammera. Your view point is at same zoom out level as before switch. If you stay or go back on default zoom out level before switching to this 2m static camera all will be ok and you will be at default static camera place at 2m alt, and cameras always face to East by default.

    As you see many things need to be set correctly to get successful dive bombing with AI ju88, and even then they can either crash or do some strange dive depending on altitude and speed used or place or type of target objects. You will see it will be try and error most of times to achive what you wont with dive attack with AI ju88. It seams they use same AI logic as Ju87, and what works fine and easy for dive bombing AI Ju87, does not work same for AI ju88 as its bigger airplane and builds up bigger speed in dive, dont manuver as good as ju87, it is set to drop bombs at around 1000m like ju87 but ju87 can easy pull up from that point at any situations, ju88 cant at most situations. You can use ju88s, this is example how it looks:

    Again, this is AI behaviour. Fix in the future.

    Current Ju-88 will pull out if given the appropriate dive altitude... (3000 meters) but not if the altitude is wrong.

    Aircraft did not dive bomb from extremely high altitudes historically... neither did they dive bomb from low altitude.

    Hi, getting back to mission building and I see some extra goodies to try.
    Akula93 this is awesome. so many thanks.
    Buzzsaw...hope to see the improved AI.

    I have added a few cameras along the route all at 2m, of course the last placed is the first to be viewed, some moving about required.

    Also I find I can click a camera and it wont select, need to zoom out to get it, a bug.
    Also I go to it, with default zoom, sometimes depending on what I was doing prior, I have to scroll mouse a lot, to get back at camera.
    what is key for default zoom to get me back at the 2m high camera ?

    Annoyingly I set it up looking in the direction I want, when I return to it I have lost that direction, so I cant preset direction and angle of view to be ready as aircraft approach camera.

    When airfield is bombed the explosions and sound can vanish partway through !

    3000m is not that high yet looking around with camera I mostly cant see the aircraft high up.

    This has great potential though if a bit buggy.

    Is there a repository of users created .mis files to try out I wonder.

    If it could be coded such that the view at certain points in the mission went to a certain camera which was coded to a certain direction and angle upward of view, sit back and hit A and watch the battle unfold.
    Better still be able to code a certain combat and demise, recreate an actual event.
    BoB Combat Archive series v useful here ! I would like so much to do that, e.g Epr210 Croydon 15 Aug and Rubensdorfer escorted by Lt Marx then demise of both.
